I've never beat the game, or gotten very far.  So without giving any spoilers, could you let me know if I should recruit him or hang him?  He does come in handy because he can pick locks and open doors, but I'm not sure if recruiting him has any consequences.

I'd recruit him if you haven't played all the way through yet.

There is a good amount of interesting Content that includes him, so that's a plus right there.

Well, without getting into too much detail, I think killing him is a waste of a perfectly good companion.

Um I'd recruit him, why would u want to hang him sheesh, he's NOT his father. N there is a nice lil epilogue card about Nathaniel that will surprise u if you befriend him all the way. If you hang him you totally miss out on some really nice dialogue. Don't want to give spoilers but DON'T hang him. He's not a bad guy.

He is the son of a bad guy, that is close enough for me.

You need help. He can fight his way through Vigil's Keep. Wardens put their cause above their personal grudges, or at least I'd hope they do. Consider this.

I thought Howe murdered two Wardens. The only reasons you recruit some like Howe, Zevran or Loghain is that you metagame. You know you will never get punished for any choice in games.

Nathaniel didn't kill anyone at Vigil's Keep. He simply gave one of the Wardens a black eye.

I'd suggest recruiting him. He isn't his father and wasn't even in Ferelden when Howe betrayed the Couslands, so he had nothing to do with either Rendon Howe or Loghain.

The only question here is: Do you believe a son should suffer for his father's crimes?

Recruit him. Really. It's a waste to hang him.

Nathaniel did not murder any of your order, it just took four Wardens to arrest him.

On my first playthrough I conscripted him - and I was not metagaming. ;)

I see it like this, and I think that matches the conscription philosophy: Look for potential and character treats what would make a good Warden, no matter what background. Eventually your enemy may become your best companion. ;D

So u would condem an innocent man for his father's screw-ups?  Seriously something wrong with u.  Nathaniel IS NOT HIS FATHER!!!

In other words, Nathaniel isn't responsible for his father's actions, and you have nothing to provide that says otherwise.

Recruit him, he's an interesting character, and he's useful. He's a party staple for me.

Didn't I just provide evidence? Besides, it is poetic justice. Howe killed the Warden's family, it is only fair that the Warden returns the favor.

Recruit him. You need Wardens and he's available. You won't be sorry -- he has an awesome VA who just makes his dialogue that much better.

I recruited him without metagaming, though I was a CE who really had no bone to pick with him. Rendon had to die, but Nate? Nah. Plus it's fun to tell him about some of your "best friends." If you're a Cousie you could RP that you were friendly before the whole "his father murdered your entire family" thing.

You got your revenge on Arl Howe, you killed the sob.  The rest of the family doesn't deserve the same kind of treatment unless your a Howe wanna-be which to me is sadistic n wrong but hey thats me.

No, Howe killed the Couslands, you don't have to play as a Human Noble. Besides, no man should suffer for their fathers actions.

No, you didn't provide any evidence. Besides, Rendon Howe and his son Thomas are already dead. Nathaniel didn't have anything to do with his father's macinations for the teyrnir of Highever. Killing an innocent man isn't poetic justice.

Depends entirely on your character. He's obviously not talking about every Warden killing Nathaniel, he's talking about a Cousland one. Tell me you haven't made a very bitter Cousland Warden? I know I have, and it was totally in-character for her to kill Nathaniel without a split second thinking. He had the name Howe, the Howes', to her, were as bad as the next one.. a la, a good reason to kill him.

Although I've gotta be honest and say, it's quite amusing to read the replies in this thread. How can people get so agitated over someone saying it could be seen as good to kill a pixel character? :/

I'm well aware he's talking about a Cousland Warden, but it doesn't mean Nathaniel is responsible for his father's actions.

You find it amusing because people disagree with you?
