To be honest, I started playing ME because my woman LOVES it and Dragon Age, so I figured if I could become a bigger part of her universe I'd be able to get some more often. Damn Garrus and Alistar. And now DA2 is coming out.

*sigh*

I guess that means I'm stuck here with you guys.

Your lady has good taste :D Although, I prefer Zev to Alistair...

But anyway, I believe Ellanterial has just OWNED all the arguments against Joker being an LI. Hell, she's convinced me :P

Why do the mods even allow threads like this to exist? It only leads to bashing....

And to be on topic: WHO CARES IT'S A GAME

Jacob shouldn't be a romanceable option. I can deal with having a relationship with aliens and stuff but black people? That's where I draw the line.

Eli only gave you a taste of the ownage. For a full, comprehensive list of ownage against Joker not being a LI, visit the Joker thread. :D In my opinion, there isn't a reason good enough as to why it shouldn't happen. I'm a pilot, and I want the pilot, darn it.

I don't know, nevar00. My male Shepard is Black, and let me tell you, all the females in my crew were suddenly ALL OVER ME! I mean Miranda goes from being an ice queen to getting all frisky, Tali won't shut up, Samara was suddenly tormented over her decision to never take another lover, an ebony goddess on Illium buys me a beer, and a green Asari is putting her best moves on me. If I didn't know any better, I'd say EDI's cameras were all zeroing in on me.

Personally, I'd like there to be an option in the menu to turn romances off. Seriously, how complicated would that be? lol.

Haha, funny.  Only, I'm not really laughing.  Not even a little bit.

That would mean completely changing certain dialogue.

I'm assuming that nevar00 was just being sarcastic about romancing Jacob and Black people. To be honest, I've had many sarcastic thoughts myself reading all these comments from players who want so desperately to have sex with every alien out there and then read just as many from players who complain about Jacob not being a good romantic option, although admittedly they're not all the same players. I admit that I've never romanced Jacob myself since my female Shepards already had a LI in ME1 and I'm not happy how almost every conversation Shepard has with him makes her sound like she's in heat, especially since she hadn't been to Horizon yet and from her perspective she was just in love with someone else a week ago. After viewing later romantic conversations on YouTube, I really wish BioWare didn't do such a lousy job with developing the romance since Jacob has the best conversations with Shepard about her views on her life and mission.

Well...:?
Some of the threads I've seen around here make me go....   The one thing I've learned never to do is be surprised by some of the attitudes people have.  Anonymity is the staple of the internet and I don't know him well enough to know if he's joking or not.  I didn't even assume he was he a actually so there you go.

I thought he was sarcastic about people that said "only humans should be romanceable!"
Taking everything serious here is Heavy risk

I wasn't taking him seriously. Even though, being sarcastic that way can be viewed as not tactful, for he should realize that can be viewed in any number of ways.

Yes!  ...well no not really, that was a joke, (/EDI), but I don't mind people believing it was deeper then it actually was meant to be.  :D  Of course I really have no problem with Jacob being a potential LI: without him we would never have gotten "the priiiize" meme.  But really now, I'm of the "the more romanceable options the better" crew.  It's an RPG: the more choices the better.

I understand the POV that Joker is only a friend and therefore it would seem out of character for him to be hitting on Shep.  Unlike the Ashley, Tali, and Liara romances, the LI doesn't always have to fall in love with Shepard first: just see the Garrus romance where he doesn't hit on you at all.  An easy way around that is to have Shep hit on Joker instead: and make it an obvious dialouge option too.  That way, for those who want to romance him the option is there without him getting ooc, and for those who just want to remain friends they can just ignore that option.

And for those saying a human-alien relationship is rediculous, you aren't thinking it through really.  A relationship isn't all about mating and reproducing: hell as long as the two love each other it doesn't even have to be about sex.

Exactly. Wish more people would understand that nowadays.

You can just select the bottom right answer.

I never understand this.

It's not like the romance options are exactly subtle, unless you're just holding down space, just pick no if you don't want to do it.

Actually, at least one of the bottom right options continues Garrus' romance, and the bottom right "I'm not interested" option activated Liara's romance in my game. It's not always obvious, sometimes it glitches, and sometimes the flirty tones are unavoidable (Jacob). The only problem with a switch to turn off romances would be that it doesn't help the people who try to avoid the romances for every character except the one they want. The best way around that is not talking to the other romanceable characters, unfortunately.

Reading all these posts, I've seen people complain about not being able to woo anyone and everyone, people complain that the one they woo doesn't get the respect he/she deserves, people complain that everyone is hitting on him/her, people who complain that romances with the people they don't want to woo are better than the ones with the people they do, people failing to understand why someone would woo a character they didn't like themselves, people taking offense at that others who wouldn't want to woo their lover as much as they did, and those, like me, who felt that the ME romances aren't realistic. In retrospect, I was wrong. This is just like the romances that go on at every school or work place I've ever attended.

I think there should be a lot of romance options, but they should be just that - options. No forced romances or forced flirty dialogue. Some people, or at least me, might like certain characters more if they didn't need to be avoided.
