I don't have the print magazines myself, got those infos from a german board. I'm trying my best with the translations.

PC Games gave it 88, pros and cons:

+ very well told hero story
+ varied followers, each with their own stories
+ great dialogs with moral decisions
+ exciting boss battles
+ martial-arts-fans should have great fun with possibly the fastest (or fast paced) battles in a fantasy game

- ...but old-school RPG players might have their problems with the flurry of activities in battles
- limited class progression with fixed skilltrees
- poor level design with one-to-one copy-pasting of whole quest areas (do they mean, some areas are a carbon copy of each other???)*
- unsatisfying ending

Gamestar gave it 87, pros and cons:

+ thrilling storyline
+ great dialogs and quests
+ coherent / consistent game world

- some fiddly battles
- less epic as DAO

Their conclusion: great RPG, slightly weaker than DAO

* Okay, according to someone who's got the magazine, with 1:1 copy-pasting they refer to quest areas for sidequests, which Bioware seem to reuse, that is, they take one area, slap a different name on it and sell it as another area. They gave an example (i'm translating here, dunno if the names in english are correct): there is an area called Wilmod's Camp and another one called Fortified Caves, both identical.

What they mean with limited class progression? The companion's restriction?

About the third point of PC games, I think they mean that different quests will be in the same area (like Isabela and Anders)

Nothing unexpected.... too bad about the whole copying areas though.

Edit: Thanks for sharing this :-)

I don't think most people expected it to be better than Origins ... I sure as hell didn't ...

Given that just about every review ever has been wrong, I'll wait till I play the game.

I think the "less epic" and "unsatisfying ending" comments may be because there isn't some big evil we vanquish; the story is more personal despite it having ramifications for the world. I guess we'll see for sure when the game comes out.

Especially, what do they mean by fixed skill trees. Aren't skill trees always fixed? Like you have a class and within that class they give you different paths to take in the form of skill trees or chains.

Let's all keep in mind we are reacting to a translated version hand typed on another forum.

May be accurate, may not be, but we are already the 4th receiver in this game of telephone.

Clearly this is an early review bought and paid for by EA/Bioware, just like the one from PC Gamer. Professional reviewers would review the full game, nothing to see here.

I can see where the limited class progression comes from.

1 skill tree will give you around 5/6 different skills, with 4/5 of them upgradable. And maxing 1 tree will bring you at lvl 10-12, which is pretty much halfway the game.

I think things like how 'epic' DA2 is or how good a ending it has (plus doesn't it have multiple endings like DAO?) really comes down to personal opinion, but still interesting info, thanks for sharing Image IPB

Great, coupled with all the graphics complaining going on, now this with the area copy-paste. I really hope they mean the quests happen in the same areas as said above and not literal copy/paste.
I'm beginning to wonder if it was the relatively short development cycle which caused this if true.

Do reviews normally come out this early? How do they decide who to ship the game to? How does this process work? I'm just curious.

And I ain't drawing any conclusions till I read at least 20 reviews from varied sources.

Are you holding TW2 to the same rigorous standard?

Um...okay?. But dont you think they could have bought more for their money than an 88 or 87?. GTFO.

Btw, Gamestar says the game length is 30 hours. But don't fret, for DAO they said 40 hours. So DA2 is a little shorter according to them, which coincides with what Bioware is saying.

Reviewers will get their copy once the game has gone gold, and since DA2 has gone gold for a while now, it's not odd to see reviews popping up.

Fixed skillrees?

Not surprised there. I knew the pre-requirements for each skill and upgrade might streamline progression until they might as well have the linear trees in Origins.

Guys, Upsettingshorts is being sarcastic. Someone said that the PC Gamer review was made by some reviewers paid by EA
