Call me stupid but seeing that DA2 uses framed narrative, why do the span of 10 years and the seven years we get to play exclude each other? I mean framed narratives are used to tell us the important events while leaving out the things we don't need to know.
(Like:
Arrival in Kirkwall and first quests - Year 1 and 2
Things heat up and our Hero keeps a low profile for 2 years
Quests to build your group - Years 5,6,7,8
Offscreen preparation for the final battle
Final confrontation - Year 10
and with that we play seven years in a 10 year timespan)
As for the unsatisfying ending: looking at the original german excerpts here it sound more like they didn't like that Cassandra was only a narrator. Noone said that Hawke's story ends in a Cliffhanger. This would be fine by me, a completed substory leaving room for more.
