As the release approached, though it was mostly down to a video of a poor player playing, I wondered if I was making the right decision by not cancelling Alpha Protocol due to bad reviews. As it is, I'm glad I didn't and I enjoy the game. The gameplay's not perfect by any means, but I do wonder at times if I played the same game, having only experienced one quite bad bug.
And anyways, scores of 86 and 87 are far from being poor scores.
Edit: The Alpha Protocol thing mentioned as well was really the only time I doubted a purchase based on reviews etc.

I figured they were trying to make an easier to write plot line that Origins, but I'm sad that they made the plot feel less epic.
As for that copy-paste area thing. . . I assume they were in some kind of rush and just threw crap together at the last minute. . . also disappointing.
Lastly, lack of customization was to be expected, what with stricter focus on the (un)holy trinity and the character-specific roles. . .

Clearly this is an early review bought and paid for by EA/Bioware, just like the one from PC Gamer. Professional reviewers would review the full game, nothing to see here.
You think if it were paid for by bioware, they would say such things? I remember an old game about these two guys who break out of prison and the guy from IGN or whatever who reviewed it said it was terrible and got fired.

You mean Jeff Gerstman who got fired from GameSpot for giving Kane & Lynch: Dead Men low score?

dingdingding.
You write the reviews you are paid to write. Just like newscasters cover the stories their host wants to cover, just like MSNBC and Fox play opposition media depending on whether it's a republican or democrat as the American President?
It's all a joke. Objectivity is not simple to find. Just wait and play the thing yourself.

I'm not the person in question, but I can answer that question:

The Mark Darrah interview from between 6 - 7 minutes I think.
Also of interest is the 5:44 mark, because Mark says imports can change/impact plot points that appear. So, I think we might be getting a bit more than we bargained for, in terms of imports affecting things.

Ah yes, I just listened to that, I guess I was just thrown off considering the person was just like BAM info out of nowhere without any source!
Oh, and speaking of sources, where is the link to these reviews? Is there a website we can read this from?

I'd have loved to view them myself. Granted, I can't speak or read anything other than english.
Edit: And err talking of that... I just received a message saying that a website has the PCGamer review scans.... me thinks it's not a good idea to go there. Just saying in case anyone gets the message.

regardless I doubt these 2 reviews were "paid for".
Then again one should wonder why any company would put an embargo on reviews of their product and then allow early reviews to be published....and then complain that people are calling themout on it

These magazines are usually paid to hype the game, and always "review" games firstDan_cw wrote...
I'm unsure of how things work with regard to reviews, but could it not be they were allowed to review early due to being magazines?

How about the fact that reviewers MUST review a finished build of the game, while PC gamer released it's review a few days before the game went goldJigPig wrote...

I used to read CGW and trusted their reviews, because they were almost always spot-on. Unfrotunately, the magazine no longer exists. I find most reviews these days on gaming sites, etc. to be accurate - despite whatever influence the game publishers might have - but maybe that's because I actually read the articles and look for salient points that address any concerns/pet peeves/likes that I have. I don't go "Oooo, a shiny 91 - it must be awesome! I'M GOING TO RUN OUT AND BUY THE GAME NOW BECAUSE OF THAT 91!!!!!" *sarcasm*
People rely too much on numbers instead of reading in my opinion.
I didn't say exactly the same earlier, but I did say I tend to look at the actual text. So, agreed.
Edit: Then there's the whole can of worms that what's written is an opinion. I reference the opinion thing because the slightest issue is zero'ed in on and it's taken as gospel.

If they are getting paid for good reviews, then I dont understand how EA´s "bribery departement" works. I mean, really? MoH, with its potentially even bigger selling market got stomped by reviews ? I would pay the **** out of these magazines for some good reviews there. More cash!
And if you say "but its BIOWARE, bioware has MILLIONS of fanboys", then I say "Medal of Honor and FPS"

He can't even provide a single source, his entire argument is folly.
