Spell Might + Mana Clash = Ridiculous!

Holy crap it is not the same thing! I'm playing around in the Deserted Building in Denerum, and this combo one shot kills every mage in the AoE. Got an orange colored name? Who cares you're still dead. I'm just waiting to see if it one-shot kills the final boss.
Now I feel my Alistair build is practically useless. I built him specifically to be my anti-mage. But while he mitigates threats from mages, Wynne is just owning them in the face.
Very overpowered, but fun nonetheless!

Add in some equipment that gives +X% spirit damage, keep increasing only magic, and use items that give +X to spellpower. You will see thousands of damage. As an example on my profile you can see my main character mage I did 8,640 damage with one mana clash.
Love the spell.

That's exactly what I noticed, too. And Mana Clash also works against most demons. This includes Gaxkang the Unbound (you know, the Transformer in Denerim, changes from Arcane Horror to Revenant and back).

Holy Smite is better than upgraded war cry in every way, do not under-estimate its use in every situation.

I never played with it before because I didn't like picking all of the spells I didn't want just to get to mana clash. The way I saw it Alistair already comes with Holy Smite, right?

You think that's bad? Do Wynne's personal quest to get Aneirin's Token, then try this:
1. Activate Spell Wisp.
2. Activate Spell Might.
3. Deactivate Spell Wisp
4. Activate Spell Wisp.
5. Activate Vessel of the Sprit while Aneirin's Token is in your inventory (it can be equipped to Wynne, or simply sit in your inventory; however, it can't be equipped to anyone else).
Do all of this while wearing gear that boosts Magic and Spellpower, and see how high her Spellpower gets.

On the targeted mage put Vulnerabily Hex, on another enemy near him put Affliction Hex, which stacks with the first one, thus making Mana Clash even more effective.

Equipment you want for your mage:
Staff of the Magister Lord
Black Hand Gauntlets
Lifedrinker
There is a ring that gives +10% spirit damage but I don't find it worth it, instead use: Lifegiver ring, and Blood Ring.
Awakening:
Staff of the Lost
Spirit of the Woods
*Note: in awakening +X% elemental damage is capped at 50%. In origins I think it's 30% max.
Mainly that, I recommend you focus a lot more on your spellpower with the rest of the equipment.
As an example I said it before look at my mage, and the equipment I used.
Lifegiver is a must in origins instead of dreamserver ring, because it gives you health, to use for your blood magic, and if you invest in magic only you will be doing insane damage either way.

Also @Swk3k, That Spellpower combo alone is why she makes a deadly Spirit Healer/Arcane Warrior. Her sustaineds are incredible and Cleansing Aura Heals for as much as a heal spell like every couple seconds.

If you are concerned about mana, a 2 - 1 split is also reasonable. I don't think you need the willpower, but it won't hurt your damage that much this way.

My best mage build here.Kaldarm wrote...
Just a quickie... what sort of split are you running with Magic/Willpower (stats please)?
All attribute points + books went to Magic. Nothing else.
The 3 specializations: Blood Mage, Keeper, Battlemage.
It's not worth it investing in Willpower, because mana drains very fast and the +5 per attribute won't do you any good. Blood mage + items that have: "improves blood magic" allow you to cast spells with blood and -25% cost of the spell.
Equipment around the game will boost your willpower, and constitution. Just focust on increasing spellpower, and you will be invincible.
