Now, I am not saying that I think DA 2 will be better than The Witcher 2, or that the latter won't have good customization options or characters or any of that. To be honest, I haven't been following The Witcher 2 that closely, but I enjoy the first game and I'm looking forward to the sequel. I also understand it will have many improvements.
My point is that to focus on and compare one aspect of the games-- especially the graphics (and especially when we're talking about RPGs!)-- is to overlook what will likely be the real defining elements of these games, and what will really cause most of us to prefer one over the other. These are different games, despite some commonalities, and they will likely appeal to different people for different reasons (and hopefully graphics won't be high up on the list in either case).
To post screenshots supposedly illustrating The Witcher 2's graphical superiority over DA 2 doesn't prove a thing, any more than posting screenshots of LadyHawke and asking "why doesn't The Witcher let you do this?" They'll both hopefully be great games, and each is sure to have some advantages over the other.

WOW if you think graphics are more important then, character creation, meaningful characters, Combat, build options and interesting companions then obviously you want bioware to make a game with stunning graphics and to just throw the story/gameplay right out the ****ing window.
Sure I agree with this

I can only speak for myself, but I almost never post anything, and I think that's how it is for a lot of people on the forums. I know I'm here generally to read what the developers have to say on the rare occasion that they post, and catch new videos or interviews as soon as they're available.
I never had any fears about ME2, and other than an initial dislike of the art style, I've never had any fears about DA2. And in fact, the more information that I see, the more I want the game.
I think there's probably a lot more silent satisfied folks like me around. Maybe I'm wrong about that.

If having svelt, sumptuous graphics is more important to somebody than having choice of sex, choice of class, meaningful character build options, tactical party-based combat, interesting companions and so forth, then I guess it's a no-brainer-- The Witcher 2 is the way to go. If you don't think that graphics is everything, then clearly there are other things to consider.

Graphics/sound is half of the medium that is games, interactivity is the other half. Graphical fidelity is very important to many gamers (not so much myself) and to say that comparing screenshots proves nothing is wrong.. DA2 is being made by a company with ten times the capitol of cd projekt and yet their games, as compared to the screens for TW2, look ten times worse. Just because you or I don't put much stock into looks doesn't mean that a great many people don't. I have a number of friends that won't buy a game unless it looks great, so already they're spurring DA2 as a no-buy based solely on it's graphical capabilities.
TW2 looks unbelievable, and if the performance can come even close to playable (I'm unconvinced as of yet), then it will be much more appealing to a great deal of PC gamers. Now story wise I have no idea about TW2 as I haven't kept tabs on it, but DA2 isn't really impressing me on that front from what I've read and seen. The dialogue is a bit stilted, the facial animations, at least from the builds I've seen, look blank and fairly lifeless and the general story itself seems a bit uninspired. (Though the structure of story telling excites me)
Now I grew to be a huge fan of ME1 and thus I'm still holding on to that vestige of brand loyalty even though ME2 completely disappointed me. But if DA2 fails to hold my attention or feels lackluster compared to the original, I'm gonna start moving away from Bioware. I'm still here because one game does not a bad developer make, but two games in a row.. well.. (bad being subjective here). I'm into customization and story/dialogue, but many players only give a crap about how it looks, and from that standpoint DA2 already fails in those people's eyes.. If DA2 was a pc only title I'd fear it would flop completely..
Point is, Bioware needs to step up into the new century of graphics to start really attracting hype. When there's nothing flashy and shiny to show the masses, there's a lot less positive reaction.. hell, reaction in general. Yet when I show a W2 screen to anyone into gaming they look at it with awe. TW2 could be crap, but thus far, it's generating many more turned heads than DA2.

Everyone I've shown the footage of DA2 has been completely blown away. They like it, they're excited about it.
Outside of the gaming sites, nobody I've talked to even know what Witcher 2 is.

Who do you talk to? Because I've had the exact opposite reaction with the people I'm friends with on steam and my RL friends aren't into rpgs so they don't really care about either..
Frequent the other gaming boards and sites, TW2 is blowing DA2 out of the water as far as positive hype is concerned and since non-gaming sites are pointless in relation to showing game footage in, the only remotely good litmus test is the true blue game forums....

Ha, ha. I talk to my friends at university, my family, and my co-workers. None of them knew what DA2 is before I showed 'em (well, 'cept my brother. But he's a major geek like me, so he kinda doesn't count), and they were completely blown away. None of 'em, not a one, has a clue what Witcher 2 is, 'cept some game with boobs.
My advise? Never, ever, trust the reaction of a bunch of geeks on gaming boards. All they do is **** and whine, and shell out their money anyway.

That's what LucasArts did with The Force Unleashed 2.
BioWare is too smart to make such a bad decission.

I know what the Witcher is. Going to buy the original before I get 2, 'cause I just upgraded my computer. Actually, I've been looking for English translations of the books, any suggestions where I can find 'em?
My friends however, have no clue. And they look at me weird whenever I try to explain it to them.

Is that really true? I mean I haven't seen anything negative about TW2, but I haven't really seen a whole lot either way. And I occasionally check out the forums for TW2, and there's a good deal of freak-outs and nerd rage there too - particularly over the "consolization" of the game (sounds familiar, no?). I guess there's less bad mojo there than there is here, but these forums are much more active.

So... they had never heard of DA2 until you showed them, and they were blown away when you displayed videos/screens of it, and they didn't know about TW2, but you didn't show them anything concerning it... That's a great test of reaction... And how does not knowing about either make one even less known? strange..
I guarantee from an outside, non-geek perspective that TW2 will win hand over fist when shown in comparison. Also, gaming sites are the ONLY reaction that really matters when trying to objectively assess a games public image as they're the only people with an interest in games..
It would be like showing a Ferrari off to car enthusiasts and yet only being concerned about soccer mom's and their thoughts about it.

Like I said, go check the other sites like Kotaku, IGN, gamespot, neogaf etc.. Whenever either is brought up, there's a wave of laughing at DA2 and a wave of screenshot comparisons. Like I said earlier, graphics aren't my biggest concern and I've yet to pre-order either game, but judging from the general sentiment I see about both games, TW2 is winning by leaps and bounds concerning hype. Dragon Age fans are always outnumbered and always on the defensive. The demo will be judgement day though and could potentially either reinforce the stigma or turn it around and put TW2 on the defensive.. Tuesday will be interesting..

I did, actually, show them TW2. They thought it was Assasin's Creed, I kid you not (I had to count to ten, after that).
And by the way, most gamers don't come anywhere near the gaming forums. We are a tiny, insignificant minority in the much, much larger gaming world.
So, it's more like showing a Ferrari off to people who only care about a very specific make and model of Ferrari, and basing all your design decisions on that.
