Windows 7 64-bit
Intel core i7 930
Nvidia GTX 470 1.2Gb with the most current drivers
PhysX drivers ver. 9.10.0513
DirectX 11
6 gigs triple-channel DDR3 memory
Couple Terabytes of storage with about 1.6 Tb free.
Doesn't seem to be any overheating, and I don't have any viruses. I've tried turning off background apps just in case but it still does it.
I did notice that using the Mage ability "Death Magic" caused me to crash more than 50% of the time. Leaving it off, I only seem to crash in extended battles with bosses or large groups of mobs.
I actually bought the game close to release and only had time to start playing it two or three weeks ago. Been a blast except for the crashes.
(Edit: Forgot to add that it crashes just about anytime my companions step on a trap in combat)

Before that, let's do a test-- turn off the graphic enhancements in the Nvidia Control Panel... Under 3D Settings>Adjust image settings with preview, select "Let the 3D application decide".
Then turn the graphics in game all the way down, turn off Vertical Sync, Frame buffering, and set the resolution to 800X600. The game will look awful, of course, but see if it plays or if it crashes. If it plays, then we know it's a settings issue and we can experiment incrementally.
You may also want to consider the size of your Windows pagefile... info on that is linked through the last solutions roundup I posted (also linked in my sig).
Other basic things... run Windows update and see if there are any important updates pending. Also, if you have any 3rd party mods installed... well... I am always suspicious of them....

- Entering combat.
- During combat.
- Exiting combat.
I find it peculiar that DA is having so many problems running. (A shame) Whereas ME2 runs like a dream. My specs are as follows:
OS: Windows 7 Ultimate - 64 bit
Processor: AMD Phenom 2 X4 955 Processor
Ram: 4 gigs
Video Card: ATI Radeon HD 5700

I had the same crash issues with a different computer as well (I upgraded some months ago), with the same mods, so I doubt it's a specific hardware issue.

You have not offered information on your video drivers, your game version, your patch level, your mods, if any, or your audio processor + its drivers.KAAurious wrote...
My problem is similar to, but not identical to that. For me, the longer the game remains active the slower it is. (In general.) However, I believe the most annoying problem is the crashing. These seem to be exclusive to three situations:
- Entering combat.
- During combat.
- Exiting combat.

Everything on my end is up to date. That much I was able to check. I use no mods. Unless DA has a version after 1.04 then...

I have the latested nVidia drivers installed.
I had the issue with the PhysX crashing before but updating to latest PhysX fixed those.
Crashes tend to appear in combat (when I cant save so its even more annoying!)

I just installed the new graphics card and I am still having the problems! Its with fresh drivers and all.
Is there any way of finding out how the game crashed other than some cryptic error?
If I reinstall the game do I need to install all of the DLC again? It takes such a long time to download all of this, why should I have to do it again? Will reinstalling really fix my problems?
EDIT:
I think I have found a solution to my problem! I thought I wouldnt. What I did was make sure Dragon Age only used one core on my processor. ( www.addictivetips.com/windows-tips/how-to-set-processor-affinity-to-an-application-in-windows/ )
I will supply more updates if it crashes further or continues to work fine.
