While I'd love a DA2 Toolset, I'm willing to settle for some Offcial BioWare support for the original toolset (which i adore).

Even if all Bioware does is allow the DAO toolset open those pesky ERF files... that would gain them so much kudos from the community. Simply knowing what the texture files, model files, etc are called in the game, opens the door to their famous "override" file system mods. I don't see how possibly time consuming something like that would be for them... it's simply a matter of if they are doing this because of DLC sales or not.

I hope they at least let us mod armor, weapons and body models even if they don't want us to create modules and quests, though I WOULD like full moddability.

One thing I am curious about though, is if Bioware still sees the Dragon Age franchise as a "spiritual successor" to the Baldur's Gate franchise.  With the "Mass Effect-ization" of Dragon Age 2, that seems unlikely.

The reason I bring BG up is because even to this VERY DAY, the modding community is alive and the game is still being sold.  Think of how many years Baldur's Gate and Baldur's Gate II has been kept alive thinks to mods.  Baldur's Gate was released in 1998 and its sequel in 2000.  This is nearly a decade and a half (and counting) of life for a game largely thanks to mods.

This does bring me to another point though.  The Baldur's Gate games were made moddable solely by the community of players, though once Bioware learned of it, they certainly lent their moral and at times actual support.   David Gaider himself even helped to mod the game in an unofficial capacity in his spare time.  But it was fans who created the modding tools and scripts needed to make mods and get them into the game.   If they think it would be too time consuming and expensive to update the Toolset themselves, maybe they could release some code or something so the community could do the update themselves?  While I myself do not have the know how to do such a thing, I dare make the suggestion anyway because there is more than likely someone out there who has the will and the ability to do it.

The thing i liked more on DA:O then ME & ME2 because of the toolset and those genius and creative mods the community did!

It would be a waste of time if the toolset just supports DA:O... so i hope an update is coming in the near future ;)

I agree with this.  I mean look at KOTOR.  They didn't even release a toolset, let alone endorse modding it initially.  But after some guy created modding software called KOTOR Tool for the sole purpose of modding KOTOR, now we have a boat load of mods for KOTOR and the longevity of that series (Sith Lords included) is amazing with an MMO on the way.  And another example (grant it, outside of Bioware but no less to the point) is Final Fantasy VII.  Mods for this are still going on for this game, because players with the know how created their own tools for modding FF7.  I think it would be in Bioware/EA's best interest to release a toolset for DA2 or an update to the toolset that we have (which I think is the most likely candidate), or else like the examples above, when there's a will there's a way and someone will create an update or a modding tool themselves for them and others to use.

I wouldn't play DA:O anymore if it wasn't for mods. Biggest flaw in Mass Effects is that they are not very moddable. I'm sure the toolset DA2 will be released eventually. Naturally they wouldn't have the time to get it ready for public, since the game was rushed out.

I'm not going to buy DA2 until the toolset releases. If the toolset never releases, I'll just wait for the ultimate edition that includes all the DLC.

Hey, Just wondering if anyone knows if there is a toolset update or upgrade that will make the DAII saves work on the DAO toolset... it's much easier to create new items and skins and so on on the toolset but I cant find anything for DA II... I really wanted to change something on a saved gave via Toolset but i cant get the DA II saves to work on the DAO toolset and I cant find a DA II Toolset... can someone help please?

As far as I know Bioware has never released something toolset-related for DA2. Therefore the game doesn't allow that many mod options.

I love Bioware and in my opinion Dragon Age 2 was a great game. Yes, it had flaws but I still love it to pieces. That being said, it was a commercial flop. Between pirating and people nay-saying (like so many in this thread have done.) Even after 2 well-received DLC plus some great content packs Bioware (Or EA most likely) decided to pull the plug on it entirely. They are now focused completely on DA: Inquisition and I doubt they'll turn their eyes back to DA2.

Personally, I am saddened and disappointed by this. I feel that not being lucrative enough is no reason to turn away from those of us who ARE loyal to this chapter of the franchise. Either way, the point of all this is that no, they are never going to release the toolset without some serious pressure.

We as the fans can apply this pressure. The game has been out long enough and the DLC are done with so why not release the toolset so we can increase the games replay value? EA may suck when it comes to listening to their fans but Bioware has always been faithful to us. If we, as a unit, go to them with thoughtful argument and continued loyalty perhaps they will see fit to give us the toolset once and for all.
