The law is pretty vague and at least 50% of the population (probably 90% of people under the age of 30) is against it.
We even have a political party called Piratpartiet (the Pirate Party).

No wonder Sweden doesn't have any major game developers...

That is just dumb.

Sorry for not beings sheeps. Evolutions always goes against norms. By definition.

I wish the mods would just make a sticky about the leaks. It's hard to tell what we're supposed to think about the demo from the Gamestar DVD and if we can talk about it.

Pretty much this. Considering the German "leak" likely came from someone uploading the Gamestar DVD, it can hardly be called a leak.

Nope it's a leak. If they intended for you to receive the demo today, they wouldn't be locking and deleting threads.

Well if you're german you can get it today? I even saw it on ebay yesterday for a few hours before it got bought.

Ah, is that the excuse people who do not support game developers by pirating their software use while the field gets smaller and small time companies go out of business because they can't support their games anymore?

Ah entittlement, don't you love it?

It's a demo, its just one song, just one move, just one game. When is the line drawn? Hmm?

Dude, it's piracy. And it's to blame for such DRM measures that companies think they need to put into their games to prevent it from being stolen.

Most countries don't have any anti-piracy laws at all, so why are you on our case?

Also, Paradox and Digital Illusions are both Swedish.

Often when you speak about piracy it's because someone is losing money. Bioware aint losing money on someone pirating their demo, in fact it could easily be the opposite with all this hype regarding the demo.

it's funny....all DRM manages to do is push back the date a game is cracked by a few days.....the tougher the DRM the more pirates want to break it to spite those who created it

Because I live in a country with anti-piracy laws? Because I believe that piracy is stealing and morally wrong? Because I think that piracy is one of the main reasons games have such stringent DRM?

Take your pick.

Plus, there's a curveball at play here. We've been officially hired out as virtual mercenaries tasked with spreading the news, and getting this demo to 1 million downloads. I, for one, will be able to do a better job convincing people of the demo's awesomeness  once I've actually played it. And giving me a 3 day head start will insure that I can get the world out faster.  In time for tuesday, to be exact. Posted Image

People will always support what they like. And don't jump so easily to conclusions, have a look how many billions EA made last year before you speak.

Correction. If you are German, and a subscriber to Gamestar, you could get the demo. Course that still means you can't discuss it on the official forums... Maybe Bioware forgot Germans tend to know English too?

Seriously people, these claims about piracy and leaks blah blah blah is moronic and inane.

This was not some secret scene release, it was a bloody print magazine which already reviewed the game!

It is a legit copy of the demo and in no way "illegal".

I'm debating this idea.

Bacterial colonies often evolve to be drug resistant without anything going against the norm. I suppose you could say that any mutation is against the norm but I'd suggest that a small but consistent amount of genetic variation is the norm.

We DO have anti-piracy laws, so what's your problem? Did Sweden do something to you? Does Pirate Bay/The Pirate Party represent all of Sweden (they only got 0.65% of the total votes in the last general election)?
Not agreeing with an organization or political party is not an excuse to insult an entire country.

I'm not seeing that as an argument in defense of piracy, but for the need to better adapt business to this new medium rather than trying to keep new media more like old media. See the decline of newspapers.

Relax, I wasn't talking about Sweden or it's lack of laws. I was talking about piracy.

German magazine issue came out including a copy of the German DA2 demo.

Cue piracy hysteria.

I played the demo yesterday, and it isn't that great. 70% of the features are locked and decisions made for you. The game even automatically fills out your talent tree. Max level is 6, 4 of which is obtained through the time skip. Watch the YouTube demo playthrough, that's about it.

Saying that a demo got pirated is like saying that you pirate air when you breathe... both air and demos are free.
You want to talk about piracy ? talk about pirating full games, songs, movies etc...not about pirating somethig that is free even if it got realeased before the company that made it wanted to be... that is called a leak and it has nothing to do with piracy

Exactly.

The folks at Posthuman Studios agree, and have referenced that video more than once.
