The funny thing is, I complained about the hurlocks months ago, and people said, "Give it a rest--this is alpha."

Suck it, "people". Complacency serves no one.

I had input earlier! I like the new hurlocks. I don't think they look that different. I don't like how square their teeth are. Other than that, I think they're really cool.

I think a from a technical perspective, the Hurlocks look okay. From an artistic perspective, they look rather uninspired and derivative. That's not to say that DA:O's Darkspawn didn't have the same problems; it's just these seem even less interesting. That's especially ironic since DA2 was supposed to make a defining art style for the series.

I've learned from a ton of experience with games published by EA that what's shown in the first few screenshots of the game is almost always what you get on release (or very close to it).

I wonder if with DA:O they ever released mods to change the looks of the hurlocks... But, then, we may have to deal with nude mods, etc....

^_^

You'll get your Nude Darkspawn soon enough guys.

Working on it as soon as game launches.

Forget nude Darkspawn. I want Darkspawn in pink dresses!

If someone would make a mod to replace all their armor to pink dress or tutus, I would download it.

I don't mind the change of hurlocks design. I'm more interested in the possibly lack of genlocks and srhieks in DA2.

Personally I prefer the jagged, messed up teeth of DA2 Darkies. The perfectly aligned spike-teeth is just to common in 'monster design'. They look more like ruined versions of there formal selves now. The Coifs, though, as Vit246 pointed out - are stupid. But then you know what? Coifs in general look stupid, all of them. Every last one. They require helmets to not look like your a giant metal penis head.

I don't quite understand why the genlocks are lacking this time around either. I thought they were suppose to be the most numerous.

Dunno. I'm notsure about their lack, though I'm not a lot confident. I hope that if they aren't here there's some lore explanation.

Le sigh.

How about to make them look more like their parent race? New art direction? Different breed of Darkspawn? Pick and choose.

You remind me of the journalists that screamed "AWESOME, THAT MAKES THE GAME SO MUCH BETTER!!!!!" everytime they saw that Bioware removed or simplified something in DA2 ;)

The point is, whatever their reason for changing the Hurlock design, they didn't have to change it from something cool to something ugly/pathetic-looking.

I like the hurlock new design at the same level of their old design. No better, no worse for me. Peole reacted in different ways to change.

As they are derived from dwarves and elves, maybe both races are much rarer in the Free Marches? Beats me.

I thought so. But I believe that only one broodmother could create a lot of darkpawn.

There has to be a limit on how many she could pop out. I mean, food can't be all that plentiful underground. :P

Yeah, I forgot that broodmother is the only type of darkpawn who eats.
Anyway, I still have a 1% of hope that they are back. If they aren't in DA2, I've already expected that,if they are it will be a pleasant surprise :D

I've had photoshop open for the last few hours with a picture of a Genlock side by side with an image of a pink halter dress.

Sadly, I have realized I suck at photoshop. :P

I'm actually a tad surprised there doesn't seem to be any fanart of a darkspawn in a dress.

I heard no complaints about Dragon Age: Origins' hurlocks, despite how much they resembled orcs; however, these new hurlocks are getting a lot criticism because the majority of fans are confused and displeased with their design.

The disciples from Awakening look great--use them as a model for new hurlocks. Also, give them armor like Gaider described it: a patchwork of salvaged armor instead of having them all dressed in coif uniforms.

I think the Hurlocks were changed partially so the Hurlock --> Disciple jump isn't so big.

I prefer the new hurlocks to those in DA:O, but would agree they could still use a little refinement. A don't think they all need to look different or unique exactly, but a little variance in the armor would go a long way.

I think the new ones look... comedic. I don't think they look frightening or intimidating at all.

The current hurlocks look more better than the alpha hurlocks IMO.
