Its always been mentioned that no one actually knows where darkspawn come from, the dwarves were the first to see them, and they have no idea where they came from. The chantrys excuse is blaming their enemies for it. I think the Darkspawn are actually a wanted outcome of the old gods, for a long and conviluted(sp) plan. If they are old and powerful gods, they'd surely be able to cook up a plan like this.

What your saying is thinking too short sighted I.E. after all the blights fail as planned there is an endgame.

Are you being dense on purpose?
If their own deaths was their intent all along, the only thing blights are doing is giving Rube Goldberg fans a stiffy. The idea that this is a plan of the Old Gods to some vague objective is silly. Because whatever their objective, this would be the most roundabout way possibly of doing it.
Simply put, the nature of blights and Archdemons belies the existence of a greater plan. It seems far more likely that it's some freak occurance just operating on its own.

Old gods want to be freed from their slumber? Maybe becoming an Archdemon and "dying" is actually that.

In which case, there's probably a dozen easier and faster ways to commit suicide.pomrink wrote...

Or, specific conditions have to be met, and it's not really suicide. We're arguing theory with no
ingame evidence to prove otherwise, and logic is useless for this matter
due to it being a fantasy world. Shooting down my theories for no
reason other then "simplicity" is illogical. In a fantasy world, simple things and easy ways rarely make it good writing.

Occum's Razor states that it's going to be something simple. Having her be the Maker is not simple, as there are too many contradictions to tie up.
As for the Blights being another Xanatos Gambit for them all to commit suicide, again, there would be too many story plot holes and loose ends to tie up before it would make any kind of sense.

Flemeth hestitently mentions an engagment she has to attend to.
Right after the fall of Lothering, when 3/4s of playthroughs wouldn't
have found the Black Grimoire yet, she has an engagement to die? Again, it's too convoluted
to make any sense.
That, and it presupposes the fact that if we don't see her do something, she never does it. Using that logic, she never saved Hawke's family in DA:O, because we never saw it happen. Maybe that engagement is her meeting with someone who will be prominent in Dragon Age 3, like the next main character. Who knows?

Edit: A huge Xanatos gambit would be awesome. That's what I think Flemeth has going on, my favorite Troupe

"A-ha! I knew that you knew that I was secretly a dragon, so I took some anti-dragon killing potion, and I knew that you knew that I would take the potion, so I switched your poison potion for the real potion..." (x20)
It's named after villain from the 90s cartoon Gargoyles who always had a plan where he knew exactly how all his opponents would behave, how to counter that, then how to counter it when they knew he was going to counter it. Basically, any plan that is impossibly convoluted and requires insane prep-time.

for flemeth that is, a Xanatos gambit always benefits the mastermind i could see this happening
but how the hell can you like ''win'' the game if a Win-WIN situation is pulled FOR THE VILLIAN
i mean then you would have an evil ending

In a Xanatos Gambit, every outcome benefits the person planning it in some way. Things are planned to such an insane detail, that even a failure is a victory. They are very similar, and I can see the confusion, but in a Xanatos Gambit, after every "A-ha, I tricked you!" the villain had still planned for that and benefits from it.

Wesley from the Princess Bride uses the Batman Gambit. Basically, he chooses a likely outcome based on how people will react. There's some bluff to it, and there's usually a plan in case something goes wrong.

Well, that still works for Wesley, since he was immune to the poison. But in any case... a review of Gargoyles seems to be in order. The voice of Captain Anderson can't be wrong.
And yes, I could totally see that for Flemeth.

Question - what does Flemeth need her daughters for?
According to Morrigan, Flemeth uses them as replacement bodies when her current body grows too old.
Whether or not Morrigan can be trusted on the matter is, of course, a matter of speculation.
