I could definitely go for some rock in Mass Effect, by no means as a soundtrack but maybe just a small nod to the 20th/21th century.
Don't know how to embed link but make sure this is running =
Now imagine this...
The songs starts and you see the ME3 Logo, the screen shifts to Shepard in the "Combat cockroach" definitly NOT flying a straight line with the door open (just as a nod to those war movies they used to make) above Tuchanka heading to see Wrex (Doesn't really matter where). You get the usual **** : Developed by Bioware, Published by Electronics Arts etc running in the background. They reach their destination when the song ends and Shepard asks Legion (The party I think would listen to this music
) what the hell that **** was and why he was playing it. Legion : No data available.
This type of intro doesn't really belong in Mass Effect (and has been done many times before) but a scene like it would be awesome as a small pop culture reference. I'd love to see some of my favourite music like AD/DC, Motley Crue, Rolling Stones in my favourite game franchise

I really don't want to see Chili Pepper music in a setting that takes place 175 years from now.
This
As a trance listener, I got enough in the form of Lower Afterlife music. Hope we get more tunes like that in ME3 clubs...if we get to visit ones that is. Doubt Shepard will have much time for clubbing.

If anyone has ever seen Firefly or Serenity, they did a good job putting in a kind of western type of theme to it. I think it could be good for Mass Effect during flight scenes. I really don't think heavy metal would be good, even for firefights. Look at how well John Williams put together orchestral pieces for Star Wars. Even the background music for fight sequences had the right pace and tune to convey the emotions of the situation. Bringing in big name bands isn't necessarily a bad thing, but if the songs don't match up to the situation then it'll sound bad no matter how big the band is.

Alice In Chains, Nine Inch Nails, Tool, A Perfect Circle, Metallica, Stone Temple Pilots, Filter, a bunch of other 80's and 90's stuff.
I'm also big into movie and video game soundtracks (no surprise there, I'm sure), particularly Hans Zimmer and Wall of Sound, but also Basil Poledouris, Jerry Goldsmith, David Arnold, and Danny Elfman...
