Hi, all-

I am currently enjoying my first run through SoZ. I'm nearing the end of Act 2, with just a bit of clean-up to do before I track Sa' Sani back to Samarach. As such, I've been trying to finish clearing the map of the Sword Coast, finishing the quests involved (Volo, Akali). One area I discovered- the Ruined Keep, north of Conyberry- has me a bit stumped.

My understanding is that there is supposed to be a chest hidden behind the bookcase in the second room of the Keep. I was able to find the chest easily enough, and my skill with Open Locks is high enough to unlock it without issue. However, I have not been able to either detect the trap on the chest or disable it.

While my character is not a natural at either Search or Disable Device (he's actually a warlock), his skill levels for both register in the upper teens; I would think that would be high enough to deal with the trap in this case. In any event, I tried adding higher skill bonuses for both skills to two of my warlock's items, to test whether the higher bonus made a difference. It didn't; even on search mode, I was never able to detect the trap- and when I tried using Disable Device on the chest (I recall seeing this advice in the old forums), I get the message "success will never be possible".

At this point, I'm not sure what more I can try. I attempted to use the Toolset to see how the chest is set up there- only to discover that I'm not very good at using the NWN2 toolset. Posted Image Despite my best attempts, I never could figure out how to gain access to the chest there.

As this isn't a game-breaker by any means, I'll probably just move on to the next location. However, the entire matter nevertheless struck me as a bit odd; as such, any insights that anyone out there can provide on this would be greatly appreciated.

Only Rogues get the Trap Finding feat, which lets you detect high DC traps. Maybe that's the cause.

On the other hand, SoZ is designed for a full party, not for a single character...

Hmm... I wasn't aware of that. Thanks for the tip. I found the thief cohort and hired her a little while ago, and sent her back to the Merchant HQ. I may see if she can detect it, after I level her up.

I know, I know. It's just that I'm so used to NWN/NWN2 as a single-player game, I decided to try playing SoZ the first time around as SP. It's actually worked out pretty well so far, though of course there are certain opportunities I have to pass on (the teamwork feats among them). At some point, I may try taking a full party through SoZ for a second run, and see how that goes. In the meantime, though, time to get back to the Sword Coast...
