I read of this topic some time in the past month, but am unable to locate this info currently. It seems when I return to the menu in front of this screen too quickly, the game freezes/ crashes fairly often.

Will disabling the red swirl solve this issue?

Thanks!

I am not familiar with the red swirl thingy. Perhaps placing Disable Intro Movies=1 in the [Display Options] of the nwn.ini will help (if you don't have it there already).

I refer to the red-black swirling maelstrom that appears behing many of the menus (eg; multiplayer PW screen selections).

I'm curious about this animation screen you are experiencing, Elhanan, since I have never noticed it. Is this unique to CEP content MP servers?

It is not unique. The red swirl happens behind the secondary menus. Run NWN. Click on etiher "load" or "new". Unless you are running at a very low resolution, the extra space beyond the load/new menus will be be a swirling cloud of red/black.

I have no idea how this would be disabled, if this is crashing the game you may have more significant problems.

OK, well alow me to share an issue I had once that seem to be the same or very similar
to yours.

When my game started to crash and/or freeze like that during the "Swirl" screen with a bit
of time other games started to also crash and it even got worse with even more time and
I couldn't even play the game anymore and even the "Toolset" would crash when I had
something like a "Portal" in an area and when I'd ZOOM close to the portal the toolset
would crash. The later issues came after the freeze/crash at menu swirl.

Anyhow, to make it short, I found out that my PSU(Power Supply Unit) was slowly failing.
It would keep my computer running normaly except for when I'd start a game and that
eventually the "Graphic Card" in my system would start drawing more power from the
PSU.

So I purchased a new solid power supply and my issues were gone and that was that.

There is a way to disable the swirl. It is a download that you put in your override folder.

I don't remember where I found and downloaded it. The filename is "fog_genm.tga".

It was likely from the Vault, and I believe it was relative to framerate being low and video card heat being extreme during those menus that the creator made this fix.

Many have claimed this fog is the most intense load on a video card in the entire game.

Search here and at the vault.

Yea, I know how to do it, you just need a empty file with the same name, download here, then unzip and put into override.

Note- I think the lag stutter effect can occur on some nVidia Drivers.

I know the red swirl you refer to, and about a year or 2 ago, I experienced some really bad lag and stutter on the animation.

But then a Driver update later, it seemed to be resolved.

As for how to disable the screen, I would give ShaDoOoW's suggestion a go.

I was under the impression you disabled it outside the actual game?

I have done both: updated drivers and seemed to have installed the override successfully, as there is a black screen where red swirl used to be located. Hopefully this will solve the freezing issues.

Thanks to all!
