Pretty much. Take Giant Bomb for instance folks. Giant Bomb formed shortly after Jeff got fired for giving Kane and Lynch a bad review after Gamespot had been heavily advertising it.

Rock, Paper, Shotgun is another actually good site, and their preview of DX:HR honestly has me really excited.

Aggregate scores > some random sites that you like.

HAH!

No.

If you find 'some random sites' that seem to share your opinions and tastes about many games you know, then what they say will be of more value to you than whatever comes out of an artificial 'overmind'-ish site like Metacritic.

But goodness forbid people actually form opinions of their own. Oh, no. That wouldn't be mainstream.

opinions are hard! I prefer to claim the opinions of others as my own.:P

Oh yes, and as we know mainstream is terrible, right?

We can thank the mainstream for the sad state of music and things like most big name sites reviews are bought off so... yea, it's terrible.

I don't think anything "is" or "is not" terrible. I do, however, that people who think anything that's not mainstream is automatically bad (and they are legion) are douchebags.

Oh, do pray tell. What scores should we listen to, oh wise one?

And I'm predicting around 90%.

Your own. especially if there is some sort of demo. One persons "crap" game is another persons "fun" game.its all in your own taste.

Neither aggregate nor specific score is worth anything. I hope to God nobody says to themselves, "Well I'm not sure about this game so I'll wait and see what score X site(s) give it. I'll buy it if it's 8.0 or higher."

Specifics about the game should be much more important than some quantitative representation.

The metacritic score will be very high, but that score is meaningless to me. I only trust one professional reviewer who appreciates RPGs for more than just their graphics. He does extensive reviews and ended up giving Dragon Age a 9/10 and Awakening a 5/10. He's such a dork, but hasn't ever let me down.

You just summed up the vast majority of mindless music hipsters. "Oh look Pitchfork gave it BNM! I'll go get it!"

I don't look at reviews anymore. If that makes me a bad consumer than so be it. I've played games that I was hooked on and thought were very well done that received bad reviews from people. The only opinion that matters to me is my own when it comes to video games. If I read about it from its site (or demos, etc) and like what I see, I'll give it a chance. If I like the developer a lot, I'll more than likely give it a chance.

I lus angry Joes' reviews, but that list was crap. He had three good points, and the rest was a bunch of random ****e and he repeated his self about 5 times.

I think DA2 should get somewhere between an 90-95 on PC and 88-94 on consoles.

I thought the original game was teh best game to come out that year, and I also think it's one of the best games of all time.

Having said that, Super Mario Galaxy II won game of the year, so if we are talking about Metacritic.... i'm gonna say 65 percent.:o

I'm guessing around 87-90,which is just about on par with the first Dragon age game.It just doesn't have the prestige or the superior graphics of ME to score that much higher.

As long as it is as good as Invisible War then I cannot wait to play it.  Best weapon ever in a game, the guided rocket launcher from Deus Ex 2!:o

Do not ever, say that to a hardcore DE fan - they will flay you alive. To them, they think that IW is an abomination.

Review scores mean very little to me from any source, much less Metacritic. I decide for myself whether a game I purchase is worth the money I spent. I prefer to discuss such things with close friends who share the same interests as I. We don't always agree on things, and we each have our own bias, but we also know each other's bias and can take that into account.

For example, I have several friends that are fans of WoW, but I have no interest in that game at all, and my friends know I have no interest, and they know I cannot I be persuaded to play it. However, it was some of those same friends that convinced me to try Dragon Age: Origins, and I fell in love with that game, but that is because they know my preferences.

However, a part of that is that BioWare is also my favorite developer of cRPGs (emphasis on fantasy settings). I still have Baldur's Gate, BG2 SoA, BG 2 ToB, NWN, SoU, and HotU installed on my computer because I enjoy these games and have played them through multiple times. The same goes for Dragon Age: Origins, Awakenings, and Witch Hunt. If I decide I like Dragon Age 2, it will also remain as a staple on my system; and all without considering reviews from sources other than my circle of close friends.

Reviews don't mean anything. I thought Crysis was beautiful game but play-wise it sucked.

Proves that graphics factor big time into review scores, not saying that GTAIV was a graphical showpiece, but certainly previous games in the series were "better" or at least were more fully featured.   And Saint's Row has better gameplay, or at least I prefer the foolishness of it :o
