Is anyone even going to continue creating content for DA1 as DA2 is to be relaesed soon, and is DA2 getting a toolset?

as long as there is no toolset for da2 there will be mods for da1. if someday a new (updated) toolset will be released then there is a chance that the majority will change sides. to begin with there are still modders for nwn^^

There are still modders for BG1 & 2 and they never even had a toolset. Ditto KOTOR and, to a lesser extent, Jade Empire.

Every BioWare game since BG still has diehard modders. I salute them for making those old games new and interesting again.

So I think DAO will still have modders even if DA2 gets a toolset update. Not as many, but there will still be a few.

I'm personally hoping they make an even better toolset for DA2 that allows more customization and better easier quests.

Because it's still using the DA engine (this new game)

There's is no "DA2 toolset" - Bioware have said they don't even have one. It's just an update for the existing toolset. Hence why if Bioware don't release an official update for the public DA1 toolset, the community will fabricate their own tools to get the job done. We had to do that anyway even with DA1 to some degree (model import/export tools, etc). In that circumstance, DA2 modding will be restricted somewhat, but will still happen.

And jackkel dragon, as someone who worked on some, albeit minor, Jade Empire mods, I take exception to you saying that "JE modding sucks".

Ah. I apologize for offending you, I'll go remove the statement from my previous post. The trigger for that comment was mostly my difficulty in finding any mods for JE.

The creation of standalone adventures for DAO will almost certainly continue, regardless of whether there's a toolset update for DA2.

Since there's no toolset announcement yet, I don't know whether DA2 will be designed to run mods using a mix of DAO and DA2 assets (for players who've purchased DAO).

If that ideal situation occurs (or if there's no toolset upgrade), we won't need to change direction.

If it turns out that we can make DA2 content, but only using DA2 assets, it's not clear that there would be a compelling case for moving over to DA2 (unless you're an OC modder).

Well, as a modder, I imagine it will be almost certain that the current mod I have in development, The Shattered War, will be released for DAO, and not DA2. I imagine it would be unlikely that we would be able to use DAO assets within DA2, and even if we could, they'd probably look really out of place. Given the amount of work I've already done on the mod, I'm not particularly keen to do a lot more work porting it across to DA2 if that were even possible.

Of course, this is just (educated) speculation on the issue - if porting my mod across to DA2 is by some amazing circumstances quick and easy, I'd definitely consider doing so. But I consider the chances of that to be very low.
