Preferably one that doesn't change the game mechanics, just the appearance of existing ones.

I use The Winter Forge. It has many many features, but I only use it to change the appearance of my equipment. Unfortunately you can only use existing models. But in combination with Universal Dye Kit you have quite an amount of options.

So was I at first. I'm german, so it's slightly more difficult for me. But just save and play around a bit. You'll get into it. You could also take a look here or here. Feel free to ask question, the author is very nice and fast, so don't be shy! It's worth the time, trust me.
