I like your idea of shepard being captured by Batarians Spectre_907, it ties in nicely with a thread I made about those pesky squadmate variables in ME3

*Speculation inbound*

The stealth trophy makes me think that you'll be rescuing the doctor solo. You land the SR2 on the planet stealthily, some distance from the Batarian base. You then have to do a stealth mission in the Hammerhead to get from the SR2 to the base, and then there's a stealth mission on foot to rescue the doctor.

Then the "Ultimate sacrifice" trophy makes me think you come to a point where you cant go any further without sacrificing yourself to save the SR2, or sacrificing the SR2 to save yourself.

You make your choice then the credits roll, setting up a cliffhanger ending of "Arrival" (I ponder that this is how BW will want to generate hype for ME3)

OK, how does this affect the beginning of of ME3 and solve the squadmate SM-suvivor variables?

ME3 opens with a cinematic generated by the DLC choice, or by a default one (most obvious = Shepard sacrifices the SR2) for those who didn't get the DLC or have never played Mass Effect. I'm guessing that at some point in the DLC before entering the Batarian Hegemony non-essential SM suvivors are taken home or leave the Normandy, and those left who escape the ultimate sacrifice are picked up by an alliance vessel which is chasing Batarian Pirates and just so has the VS on board, Wherein you assume direct control of Shepard (if you made that choice) or one of the surviving squad. There then follows a rescue mission back to the planet which serves as a squad building exercise.

*End speculation*

I like this idea because it serves to explain "Ultimate Sacrifice" and whittles down ME2's massive squad (or not if you only have a two SM-survivor save) at the same time

Way to be a buggy, spoiler-spreading turd machine, PS3!

I'm so glad Mass Effect got ported over to you, so you could ruin the nice things we are getting soon by leaking incomplete info ahead of schedule.

SPECULATIVE: Note also the mission objectives: “Covert Action" - Rescue Dr. Amanda Kenson without attracting hostile attention.” That may only require slipping into the system unseen. Or it may require stealth in the ground mission itself.

I would also add:

'Ultimate Sacrifice' - either Shepard surrenders himself to batarians to allow Dr. Kenson to escape with Object Rho or another non-squadmate character is sacrificed.

Possible enemy factions: The Followers of the Exalted Light of the Word

That is not an "ultimate sacrifice". Sorry, but someone is going to willingly give their life at the end of Arrival. My bet is on an NPC introduced in the add-on.

This.  Remember how we all specualted on who the Shadow Broker was and in the end it really didn't matter?  I still like the Batarian POW idea as it could tie in the two games.  I just don't think BW will do it.

The death of a random NPC introduced in the DLC was my first hypothesis; it's still a possibility among others.

I like the concept of the sacrifice being Shepards humanity...afterall...haven't you wondered why they didn't show his face in the ME3 trailer?

The shepherd trades his staff for a scythe but finds himself out of work, because the sheep ate all the crops. :P

I agree with Val: Ultimate Sacrifice is likely made by an NPC, and probably that NPC is introduced in the DLC.

It's gonna be Dr. Kenson. I'm telling you. I'm 99% sure.

Not possible. Kaidan and Ash are LIs and they had plot protection since the start of ME2. It would be stupid to kill them off in a DLC that not all will play.

I'm tired of repeating that...

Not all will play lair of the shadow broker but it's a link to ME3 too.

Why would you even click on this thread if you don't want it "spoiled"? C'mon.

Liara can easily say that after all her searching she finally took down SB herself without your help. It just took longer to find him. (At cost of Feron, I suppose?)
