Sooo losing access to that mass relay probably is the ultimate sacrifice like some guessed?
The Reapers way to Earth is through that relay and Shep has to destroy it so that they can't proceed, but destroying it makes it impossible to travel away from our system = Ultimate Sacrifice? (Just my theory)

Sounds like a flight schedule to me. Could it be the ships passing through the relay in question?Quaay wrote...

O.k., now that's out of my system - oh, wow, look - 304942, I wonder what that means? Oh and a big flashy red button - I'm certain pressing that can only lead to wonderful things occurring...
Seriously though, in the world of flashy red buttons, that is the flashiest one I've ever seen. (Wait, is flashiest a word...)

Thats good . But not likely . I would see that choice in mass effect 3 at the end or something like that . Because that would mean that ALL of mass effect 3 would be on earth . Witch is not that much of a good idea . Plus if Shepard locks himself in his system then that is one hell of a **** move for the rest of the galaxy . " okay guys we are out of here "

The number, I think, is the number of ships anticipated to pass through the relay. Shepard is standing in front of the control panel and if he pushes the big button, the relay is disabled.

Maybe Shepard is in an Alliance facility.

Arcturus is notably the location of Arcturus Station, which orbits the hydrogen-helium gas giant Themis at the Trojan Lagrange point L5. Arcturus Station is the capital of the Systems Alliance and the headquarters of its fleet. To build the station, metallic asteroids were towed through the mass relays to the construction site in the metal-poor Arcturus system. Many of these asteroids remain in the Arcturus system near the station, their mined-out areas home to transient populations.
Arcturus is from the generation of stars born before Sol. Its worlds are either gas giants (in this case, Themis) or ice chunks. While some rocky debris exists, metals are rare, and tend toward lighter elements.
Arcturus' origin is also unique. It is actually from the galactic halo, one of a cluster of 52 stars that are "crashing through" the disc of the galaxy. In a billion years, Arcturus will be sailing through the depths of extragalactic dark space."
Oh jeez...please don't let it be Arcturus! Does that last sentence imply that it's close to dark space aka Reaper door? Noooooooooooo

The Reapers arrive and attack earth. The ultimate sacrifice is Shepard being forced to shut down the Arcturus Relay in order to prevent the Reapers from getting anywhere else, thus leaving the Sol system to the Reapers until Shepard return with the military.

That's a good theory indeed, Chew. It could have been possible if we wouldn't have seen the teaser trailer for ME 3.
