Yeah that's an interesting catch and all.
But if that number corresponds to the 6 digit number in the loading screens, then it seems pretty empty of meaning, because during the loading screens, at least, that number flies all over the place:
Unless the screen shot is 100% red herring, and Shep is staring at a loading screen after pushing that big read button.

hrmm... seems to be some indicator of its operation. Since it varies so much, maybe it has something to do with field variances and has something to do with drift.
