It's interesting but I'm not wholly on board with it yet. Can't see any reason to put that in a costume pack being the main reason unless it's an easter egg. Timing is a bit suspect as well, could be genuine though, odder things have happened.

The PS3 patch does at least make sense everyone who wanted to play the DLC would have to have it anyway.

Agreed -- exceedingly weird.  Important content in a wholly optional change-of-costume pac?

Yep that is probably the blunt inelegant excuse they will use.  It seems the shuttle was stealthy enough to get them from the Normandy SR2  to the Shadow Broker ship without detection from advanced sensors, lookouts and patrols.  Yet in the vast expanse of space the shuttle is a belisha beacon :innocent:

I call 'em like I see 'em. I assume no responsibiity for the elegance or lack thereof.

EDITED P.S.

So, I wonder how long it will take for an "Amanda Kenson for L.I.!" thread to sprout.

Technically he has two ships, the Normanday SR 2 and the Shuttle.  I don't see any issue with the team being split up into two and sending 1 team on the Normandy to 1 distress call and the 2nd team to the 2nd distress call in the shuttle.

We already know that the shuttle is quite capable of carrying the entire team (all 13 of them) so carrying half the team won't be a problem.

Because its the same sort of heavy handed writing as Virmire, remove any other options so you are forced to make a choice. Even if the situation is totally illogical based on what you have at hand.

*spoilers*

In any case, it's far better than the situation we had in ME2, where you could avoid any negative repercussions in a so called "suicide mission".

Both as bad as each other if you ask me. Making the SM harder would have been preferable, or even killing people off in a scripted manner. But a forced catch 22 is just about as lame as it gets.

True, if that info is true, then we may be forced to not save a group of people no matter what. Which could explain "The Ultimate Sacrifice" achievement.

Apparently Shepard gets to choose between two distress calls, with the one chosen as the one to be saved eventually. I would assume that the other distress call is what this sacrifice is directed at.

That appears in a bunch of the DLC tlk files. It seems to just a be test scenario they had at some point that for some reason gets appended to the files. If you want to see what I mean by test scenario, here you go (this is the order the strings appear in the tlk files, not how it'd work if you could play it). Some are obviously dialogue wheel selections):

Generic Quest Giver Lines (files never give a name for who this is supposed to be):

We've had two incoming distress calls, Shepard. You need to decide which we should respond to.

Of course, what would you like to know about?

Well, there was a big battle and one of our ships was destroyed. There are some of our people on it now. The plot of aliens will probably start up on this ship though.

A Batariaan Research vessel has fallen ill to some strange disease,

Setting course for the shipwreck

Setting course for the stranded research vessel.

Alright, Shepard, I'll talk to you soon.

Shep lines:

I need some more details before I can act.

Tell me about the shipwreck call.

Tell me about the research vessel.

Let's go investigate the shipwreck.

Let's go investigate the stranded research vessel.

I'm too busy remembering how awesome I am right now. I might talk to you later.

Dialogue Wheel Strings:

Shipwreck
Stranded Research Vessel
Too Busy

Now possibly, this is actually a skeletal form of something they've been genuinely working on, but I highly doubt it'll look anything like this in a finished form.

Excited...

...but also kinda hoping that Bioware try and do something different with this like they did with LotSB. I'm not expecting a huge storytelling epic, but it would be nice to get some new gameplay mechanics. A tag on side mission would be kind of *yawn*

+I would like to see Ashley/Kaiden in this. Even though I played it on the 360, I'm pretty much in the same position as PS3 players - both characters mean very little to me *still seething over not having a "Wtf? I don't care. Who the hell are you anyways? gtfo." option on Horizon with Kaiden*. Still, I can see how annoying it must be people who romanced the characters to only have a 40 second clip where they essentially tell you to ****** off just because be you happened to choose the organization which saved your live over the one which coverd up your death shamelessly. Blehhh.

I disagree. Personally, I think that the Mass Effect series needs as few "have your cake and eat it too" decisions as possible. The Kaidan/Ashley choice on Virmire was one of the highlights of Mass Effect imo, and Mass Effect 3 needs more situations reminiscent of that scene. Although, they need to be designed carefully to ensure that they don't feel repetetive or contrived.

Well they have a penchant for copying that game. So I would not be surprised. Nonetheless, I do not believe this will even mention Ashley or Kaidan. If it the DLC, I worry about a potential story arc that should be plot-centric being marginalized due to it being optional content.

Virmire was about as contrived as it gets.

I don't see anything ultimate about that. The best ones so far are.

1. Earth
2. Shepards humanity - which if they need a re-set makes double sense, although against that is that he looks very human in the trailer.

Oh wait... I just thought of something.

Actual squadmate voice acting. Since they've probs pulled everyone back in for ME3 I can't imagine it being too out of the question for them to record a few lines for Arrival ^^

Hmmm, and some closure on the ME2 LI front. After living my ME1 dream and romancing Garrus, I was little dissapointed that all he had to say about it was exactly what he said BEFORE we did the dirty...

Maybe I'm asking too much now? Am I?

How does a research vessel fall ill ? I'm really doubting this is real. That's a horrible error for a professional dialogue writer to make.

I agree...probably trailer in April, release in June or July.  Pure speculation of course.

I see your point but I feel they did a fine job with the suicide mission. Surviving great odds is a massive achievement and I've had playthroughs where some did die. THey didi it fine IMO.
