So I'm starting my first insanity run today and have decided to go with infiltrator. Now usually when I would play on normal and hard, I would just go with the squadmates that I liked as I wanted to hear their dialogue (Tali + Garrus = awesomeness incarnate), but I feel that this won't work to well on insanity seeing.

So I wanted to ask the masters of being a pansy and shooting someone from 400 metres away, what squadmates compliment an infiltrator well?

You can never go wrong with Miranda. Consider bringing along a loyal Kasumi for Improved Flashbang.

I use Miranda and Grunt mainly. Miranda for the damage buff along with Warp/Overload/Slam. Grunt because he can survive just about anything.

Additionally, if you're playing the Infiltrator just to snipe, consider using the Soldier instead.  The Soldier can do more damage more frequently than an Infiltrator using his Cloak to snipe.  The Infiltrator shines when you use Cloak to move freely around the battlefield, allowing you to flank easily.

That said, it is perfectly possible to play an Infiltrator that relies on sniping for its kills more than anything else.  Your squadmate choice won't matter much, as you'll be safe due to distancing.  Do note that ME2 rewards aggressive play, though, so don't be afraid to use Cloak for something other than a damage boost.

Beyond that, tailor your squadmates to the mission at hand.  You don't need to get married to a particular pair like in ME1.  Bring Garrus against geth and Thane against Collectors, for instance.  Zaeed might be helpful in the early game, but he'll lose some of his appeal once you have your own suitably high level Disruptor Ammo.

Anyone you like (IMO), so you can still bring the squad you want for dialogue. Unless you're going for a very niche tactic (dominate + ai hack or something), you have a lot of freedom as an infiltrator.

The best squadmates are determined by a combination of your build, intented playstyle, and the enemies to be found on the mission you're about to run.  In short, to many variables to just say ally X and Z.

I posted my experiences with my most recent insanity Infiltrator's early game in a thread called "early infiltrator", mainly to dispel my previous thoughts that early game for the class is boring when all you have is the Mantis and Shuriken.  It may be useful in showing one example of a way of thinking in regards to mission order and squadmate selection.

I need to retract my previous statements regarding low-level early Insanity Infiltrator gameplay from four posts up.  I did go ahead and start a second Infiltrator career (using an lvl 54 ME1 import) with the intent of this one becoming a Widow-user.  Much to my surprise, I'm having a blast this time through.  I believe that's due to a combination of utilizing Cloak more efficiently, better squadmate selection, and my new found love for a weapon I previously hated, the Shuriken.

I took on Kasumi's Loyalty mission after Freedom's Progress.  My reasoning for taking this on first was not for the Locust (since I now love the Shuriken), but because I was not high enough in level to have any squad ammo powers available from allies.  Since I can't take an squad ammo-powered teammate on the heist anyway, it made sense to do that mission first while enemy level was low enough to still be 1-shot killed by the Mantis with just rank 1 Disruptor Ammo and rank 3 Cloak.  Any enemies not killed outright from a non-cloaked Mantis shot would be finished off by Kasumi's Shadow Strike.

The first recruitment mission I took on was Mordin's, as we can't delay on getting the Normandy's tech lab opened for long.  Now that I was high enough level for Jacob to learn Squad Incendiary Ammo, this mission was cake.  I could 1S1K Vorcha with the Mantis whether Cloaked or not due to the fire ammo.  Any foe not 1S1K'd would be Warpbomb by Miranda and Jacob.  I also enjoyed a fair amount of close quarters cloaked assassinations with the incendiary powered Shuriken.  One point Incinerate was used to finish off stragglers I didn't want to waste a Mantis round on and one point wonder Neural Shock helped with Krogan and Varren.

Korlus was next, since Grunt's recruitment mission has a sniper damage upgrade to find.  Miranda and Jacob accompanied me again with Jacob's Squad Incendiary Ammo on every weapon the three of us carried except for the Mantis, which had my still rank 1 Disruptor Ammo.  That combined with Assassination Cloak was enough to 1S1K Blue Suns Troopers.  A single Mantis headshot taken outside of cloak wasn't enough to kill, so Neural Shock, Incinerate, and Warpbombs were a plenty.  Also once again, cloaked Shuriken assassinations combusted many foes.

Finally we came to Garrus's recruitment, with was seemingly my easiest and quickest Insanity run through of it.  My squad made the mission for me.  So far I had been spending all my Infiltrator's skill points on Assassination Cloak and then the passive, with just one stray point unlocking Incinerate.  To maintain my 1S1K power (outside of cloak) with the Mantis I'd have to rely on my allies for the appropriate ammo powers, which is why Zaeed with his Squad Disruptor Ammo (SDA) and Grunt with his Squad Incendiary Ammo (SIA) came along on this one.  Also having both major sniper upgrades (armor piercing and headshot damage) at this point didn't hurt either.

Prior to each wave, I adjust my ammo powers and weapons according.  Against the first wave of Loki Mechs, I had SIA on my Mantis and SDA on my Shuriken, Zaeed's Incisor, and Grunt's GPS.  When shield mercs starting appearing, I switched to SDA on my Mantis and Zaeed's Incisor, with SIA on my Shuriken and Grunt's GPS.  When Eclipse was finished, I switched to SIA on everything and took Zaeed with me against the Bloodpack (his sniper, especially with the upgrades I had so far, would be more effective with SIA against the armored foes than Grunt's GPS).  After the Bloodpack was finished I switched it all back to SDA on my Mantis and Zaeed's Incisor, and SIA on my Shuriken and Grunt's GPS in preperation for the Blue Suns.

Every standard trooper throughout this mission died from a single Mantis headshot, cloaked or not, due to always having the appropriate ammo power available.  Anything bigger died easily enough from point blank cloaked Shuriken strikes.  Keeping foes off balance or pushed back was easy enough with 2 Concussive Shots plus Neural Shock available for use, not to mention the appropriate crowd controlling ammo power.

Next up, Jack's recruitment.  I'll definitely bring Zaeed, SDA is that good on my Mantis right now; the other ally I've not decided yet.  It will probably end up being Grunt or Jacob, SIA is just that good on my Shuriken right now [smilie]/images/forum/emoticons/grin.png[/smilie

I did end up bring Zaeed and Jacob on Jack's recruitment and it worked just as well as expected (though Grunt would have been better as with that squad, another Concussive Shot would have been more useful than Pull).

For the rests of the missions I've done since, I won't go into detail on my reasoning as I did above. My thinking should already be clear enough from it all.

Horizon saw me bringing Grunt (SIA) and Mordin (Full Cryo Blast).

For Thane's recruitment, I brought Zaeed (SDA) and Miranda.

For Tali's recruitment, Zaeed (SDA) and Garrus.

For Jack's loyalty, Grunt (SIA) was our ally.

For Samara's recruitment, my team was Jack (SWA) and Thane.

And for the DCS, again the squad was Jack (SWA) and Thane.

My squad selection up to this point has allowed me to focus on getting Assassin Cloak and Assassin, with varying points in Incinerate, AI Hacking, and/or Neural Shock (depending on mission, i respec often), without having to spare points in any of my own ammo powers for the first half of the game. Now that I'm lvl 20 on, I can start thinking about whether I want to respec into my own ammo powers or keep utilizing my allies' a little longer.

Whenever I played an Infiltrator, I always liked the squad of Shepard/Kasumi/Thane.
