Hey everyone,

I just started a new Human Noble(Origins) and I'm trying to make a tank simply but I'm not sure whether to go two handed or sword and board? Also what specializations should I choose? Thanks in advance :)Posted Image

If you're going to import into Awakening then I say shield and sword for a +20 to all attributes shield heraldry:  Legion of the Dead. Can't beat that.

standard build 26 dex max str, keep to intimidation checks.

templar base, Reaver would be my choice for a 2 mage, rogue group. champion if youre running 3 melee 1 mage. ...............

you do know the are countless threads on this forum about this subject?

Pretty much this,

The weapon+Shield damage spec is pretty fun.

my first Alister build was 26 dex max str, i had yet to use an faq let alone read up here, just seemed right. 2 shotting genlocks in deep roads later on confirmed it. although i did give him 20 con, god what a noob i was, wasting 4 points like that! :P

CON on gives 5 HP per point. It's a point better spent in STR to increase your damage output and kill things faster, or DEX for defense and not take damage. Why add HP when you can simply not take damage or kill things before you need to worry about low health?

In fact, as a tank, you'd want to put just enough AP into STR to use the best equipment, then the rest of your AP should be flooded into DEX. DEX = Defense.

so what would be the best equipment for a tank.

That depends on the type of tank and race you are. Massive Armor is a definate for a heavy tank and for bosses. There are vaious types of massive armor, some give bonuses to fatigue reduction, others dodge/critical chance, others give more armor and yet others give resistances. You could try out using lighter armor that gives DEX bonuses as well; this actually what I'm going to try out for my next W & S build. Lower fatigue penalties, higher defense, lower armor. I don't know how it will fair against bosses, but I did tank the Harvester with a rogue on Nightmare...

Depends on your Weapon style choice and your tanking style choice.

Theres not really one universal gear.

Some Tanks like High dex so they cna just avoid all attacks.

Some Tanks stack Dodge

Some tank stack spell immunity

Some tanks stack dodge and spell immunity.

In Awakening sword and shield tanks stack Con because with carapace if you have a con of 60-120 you cna reduce all damage to 0.

I personaly like focusing all on offensive stats and stacking 100% dodge, and 100% Spell immunity through gear.

Indomitable is the only thing keeping me from playing S&S. S&S does just a few points less damage than 2Handed. It has higher defense and attacks faster. Damn S&S keeps steeling my 2Hander's lunch while 2Hander winds up for last killing blow. But, with indomitable, you're immune to stun, not just knock down/back. Stun happens too often.

Shield Wall is still pretty good, S&S as a Aggressive Str heavy build usualy does around -20% to -30% less damage then Two-Hand.

Two-Hand is unique in that 1: Indomitable is the Best Anti-Crowd control ability and 2: Two-Hand can focus exclusivly on the Str attribute. Other builds have to split their points into Dexterity and sometimes Con.
Later on Two-hand can be a better tank (Hey ill just kill things before they they do enough damage to be a threat) though but initialy sucks at that role in the early game when you cant spam your talents yet.
Just remember you should NEVER be auto-attacking on a two-hander, talent spam 4-LIFE.

The Duel-Daggers Dex Warrior end up being a great tank too due to insanly high Defense score. (Which makes most things miss him all the time)

In my experinces all 4 styles of Warrior are good as long as you build them aggressively (More Dps oriented builds)
Even the Warrior Archer is pretty impressive (In my opinion, better then the Rogue Archer)

I would avoid Dex based Weapon and Shield Warriors, and Will/Con heavy Warriors though.  You hold most of your threat through damage and these builds have significant damage dealing problems. (Dagger+Shield is the only way you could play). Another build thats not so great is Str based Duel heavier weapons warriors.  They do allright damage but need to be talent spammers and have lower defense scores so they usualy cant take a beating as well. (Also they dont do as much damage as their Dex based Dagger duel wielders).   Duel heavy Weapons works better on a non-backstabing focused rogue actualy.

i find Sten (two handed) does more damage than Alister (sword and shield) but dies far more often for that reason i always choose sword and shield

I'm with thugbert here. Indomitable rocks. I am playing an SnS warrior again, but damn I miss that ability. I like the idea of an SnS warrior though and I have completed a playthrough using it. I like annihilating a baddie with a Sunder Arms, Sunder Armor, and Mighty Blow combo as well. Some of the Awakening talents are fun also. Must... resist... urge... to play... 2 hander... again!
