We're spending most of the time in one city. How is it that everyone is so surprised that there are reused areas? What did you expect? That they demolish buildings and build new ones every year in Kirkwall?

In developer's diary they talked about how the 10 years things allowed them to focus on one area and allow the player to see it change and evolve. I think that's quite fascinating, if it's done well. Re-used environments where they are presented as a different one, like in Mass effect or Origins, can be frustrating, yeah. When it's actually supposed to be the same place, not so much, as long as the content changes.

DA2 might as well have not improved on anything form Origins by that logic, because people still would have LOVED it just like Origins.

Look at all the forumites who decried any deviation from DA:O in DA2. It's true and sad, some people didn't want DA2, they wanted DA:O v2

Yes, it's the same thing as Mass Effect. Sidequest locations are recycled. Yawn.

rushed.

Rushed would mean they released the game before they had time to do everything.

That's not the case with DA2. The game was ALWAYS meant to be done quick and cheap. DAO maybe sold well but had a lond dev cycle and cost a lot of money. EA's in charge here, they do quantity not quality

There was nothing to improve on from Origins, the story was well told, the difficulty was hard but not frustrating and the characters were interesting, even the minor ones and even though some areas were cut and pasted it didn't take away from the fun and enjoyable experience.

And like Vicious said, quite a few people dislike the new art style and such and just wanted DA:O v2.

Unless you think recycled environments are good for a game, there's no reason to defend them.

Logical Fallacy:  Either/Or Reasoning.  Falsely believing there are only two diametrically opposed views on a subject.  "If you're not with me, you're against me."

LOL

There's no denying that a game would be better off with no rehashed levels. And Origins didn't take place in such a limited setting as DA2, thus it would be more tolerable.

And someone asked, the other day, why can't we see the destruction of Lothering? Recycled enviroment...duh.

Recycled from another game and recycled from the same game are not the same thing, one of the more annoying aspect for example in Fallout 3 was entering two supposedly different buildings, but on entering you see they are carbon copies of each other.

P.S, since it would have been the "destruction" of Lothering, recycled would not be a bad thing.

In your opinion, what have they changed that is actually a strict improvement? My thoughts are that the animations and models are vastly improved, but nothing else is.

Want to bet any money those same people would have complained if the game was exactly the same as well?

Edit: Or if not them, a whole lot of different people would have. It's essentially a lose-lose situation for BioWare around here.

Well it's all subjective anyway.  In the eyes of some, VO protagonist is an improvement.  It is not in the eyes of others.

It was off the final game. It wouldn't be a review, otherwise.

It's based on the full game. Maybe in a state before it went gold, but the full game nontheless.

a lond dev cycle

DA:O's dev cycle has been since they released screens in 2004. The game was not incredibly long or epic or even superbly memorable despite taking 6 years to create.

So your whole post is a joke. Thank EA that the game got released at all, because it was looking a bit like Duke Nukem forever.

I normally agree with your posts, but had to point that out.

I honestly find it funny that you go "LOL", but can't describe your points on what there was to improve. Please, enlighten me.

Before the game even went gold PC gamer reviewed which makes their score highly suspicious.

ANY REVIEW put out BEFORE a game has gone gold is paid advertising, pure and simple.

Do any of you reading this really think they bothered to play, replay, and critically analyze the game before writing that review? If so, I admire your naive outlook.

I don't think I really need to explain. There's no logic in saying that there was nothing to improve on in Origins. It's completely devoid of common sense.

Play: Yes

Replay: No

Critically Analyze: Partially.

Well maybe for a Witcher fan. I'm sure you wish they spent more time designing sex cards with erotic artwork on them as a reward for all the women you bed. Oh wait this isn't The Sexer 2 this is Dragon Age 2 wrong game. I'm sure The Sexer 2 will please you. And if you are American and they censor it again you can fight to get a patch to free that all important game aspect.

No reviewer ever does. To trust any review, ever, is pure foolishness.

On topic: I've been playing games since the NES. Every game I've ever played has recycled environments, to a greater or lesser degree.

I'm not gonna dig up articles and quotes for you now, but devs has said multiple times that DAO was too expensive to make even despite the sales, and that all of the changes for DA2 were done so that it's cheaper
