Good God. Really? Has everybody forgotten about the "Sex and Violence!" trailer that was, like, the primary marketing device for Origins for about two months before its release? The one that included a song by Marilyn ****ing Manson in it?

Really? 5 or so active/sustained abilities per tree (of 6) with the rest of the 5-6 talents upgrades/passive? I'd say it's at least on par with Origins, if not better. This is discounting mage spells however.

What trees are you looking at? Most listed are upgrades or passives. Two handed for example has THREE actives in total.

I give up... take each talent field on their own like two handed and weapon + shield and yes, there isn't many abilities.

Just ignore the total of 80 or so talents you can choose from altogether...

Yes but compared to the Witcher? The game is about sleeping with women to win cards with erotic pictures on them. Which hide the fact the interaction is poor and the combat system is crappy. But i'm getting way off topic

As opposed to sleeping with women to unlock tasteful achievements like "Witch Gone Wild," you mean?

Call it "third hand forum information" all you want. The fact that a professional reviewer published it and BioWare's already established affinity for recycling environments in their other games is enough to make a lot of us worry.

This is a brilliant analogy to the forums.

That's my point. There aren't many actives at all in comparison to Origins. Instead we get upgrades akin to Mass Effect.

I'm not ignoring them. I'm merely questioning their worth. Much like the individual you quoted did.

As long as it's not as bad as ME1 then I'll be fine with it.

And then there's that, forums are always going to be skewed in the favor of dev worship since unless you're a troll once a game disappoints you enough you kind of walk away.

Which is the healthy thing to do, no? Occasionally it does seem to boil down to that guy at the party that feels forced to announce to everyone that he intends to leave because the party, like, totally sucks.

THAT GUY: "So... I'm leaving, everyone!"

EVERYONE: "Okay, bye!"

THAT GUY: "Because this party TOTALLY SUCKS. I don't like it any more!"

EVERYONE: "Well, alright."

THAT GUY: "So now I'm going! I'm totally walking out the door!"

EVERYONE: "Okay."

THAT GUY: "This door! Right here! And I won't be coming back!"

EVERYONE: "Have fun."

THAT GUY: (Long pause) "Why the heck do you want to STAY? This party is totally lame!"

EVERYONE: "I thought you were leaving?"

THAT GUY: "Because the party is LAME!"

EVERYONE: "Well, we're enjoying it. Or we were."

THAT GUY: "Fine! Then I'll go!" (Storms out the door, slams it loudly)

THAT GUY: (Muffled now, from outside) "I totally left! And you all deserve it for being lame!"

(Pause)

THAT GUY: "I'm still outside."

EVERYONE: "So we gathered."

THAT GUY: "You don't deserve my presence!"

EVERYONE: "Evidently not."

THAT GUY: (Storms back in) "Well I'm not giving you the satisfaction! So there!"

THE MESSAGE: DON'T BE THAT GUY.

this post is relevant to most of the complainers of things we dont know

Yes because an achievement called "witch gone wild" is MUCH worse than an erotic photo,

And worry about what exactly? That things will be reused in level design like in every single video game ever? Oh no must panic.

And what exactly is a "proffessional reviewer"? Some know it all who tries to tell people what they should think about a product before they even buy it and see for themselves? If so he's very good at his job.

What actually bodes poorly is--as people have pointed out repeatedly--that while BioWare has recycled environments in every game, this is the first time it's actually been brought up by a reviewer (apart from maybe ME1).

This leads me to believe that this isn't a minor incident, but one that can be pervasive throughout the entire game. That could easily become a problem.

Agreed. If it's on the same level as DAO then I can live with it, but if the only differences is how boxes are arranged then any complaints are well deserved.

I'll take a two-dimensional landscape with a three-dimensional story over a three-dimensional landscape with a two-dimensional story.

DA:O's dev cycle has been since they released screens in 2004.

The game world and setting was in development long before that.

The game was not incredibly long or epic or even superbly memorable despite taking 6 years to create.

Not long? When it is common to see people post 80+ hours to complete the game, that is most certainly long. I had a play through that was over 100 hours and i wasnt alone in that achievement.

While you might not think the game was epic or memorable, there are lots of us who do think so. I think it is the best game to come out in the last  10 years. It was most certainly an epic and memorable game.

Thank EA that the game got released at all, because it was looking a bit like Duke Nukem forever.

Despite your sensationalist comment, DA:O was never anywhere near DNF. Bioware took as long as they needed to fully develop a deep world with lots of lore that would be the setting for multiple games. They started this long before EA was ever in the picture.

While your claims may make good flame bait, it doesnt make them true.

I'm not sure if this has been covered in this thread. But, there are probably ways to "recycle levels" that make them feel "familiar" rather than the same. Like, you could enter from a different location, find battles, items, whatever, in different spots.

Ultimately, if a level is used more than once in this kind of a way because it therefore allows the game to have more quests overall (I'm guessing here), then it's not such a bad thing?

Unless you think recycled environments are good for a game, there's no reason to defend them.

They can be tolerable at best, nothing more.

It's impossible to do a 20+ hours game without recycled environments (whatever that means, since it has many interpretations). It would require a development cycle on par with Duke Nukem Forever (only without the lapses).

By recycling environments, I mean copy-paste design like ME1. Not just reusing art assets, but copying an area's layout pixel-by-pixel. I thought that would be obvious this far into the thread.

And there are a lot of games that don't do that.

Hell, it's almost impossible to do a 6+ hours game without recycling assets. There's neither a 3D engine game that doesn't recycle assets and no 20+ hours game that doesn't recycle environments. It always happen and it willl always happen (at last for a lot of time to come). So let's keep the facts straight, shall we?

I heartily disagree with you. Have you played Castlevania: Lords Of Shadow? Took me 25 hours to complete and each and every area was unique. And if you're going to give me the "it wasn't an RPG" story, then yes, i know that. But it had a very RPG-ish weapons and ability system.
