I'd prefer Matt Damon over Brad Pitt as well. To be honest, if the movie is about Shepard, any actor is going to feel a little odd at first.

No Pitt, while he is very talented, is too predictable. I like Ryan Reynolds but I don't think his personality is suited to being Shepard. I think either Chris Pine, Dominic Purcel, or Paul Walker would make the best Shepard both in looks and personality. Plus they all can pull off the action parts, I'm not sure if Matthew Fox, the only other guy I think who could fit, can do the action.
In a perfect world Andy Whitfield (I think he would be the perfect man for the job) would be Shepard but he's not exactly in any shape to that right now nor do I think he has a big enough reputation to be casted in the first place.
