I have a history of having a thing for blue skin (Nightcrawler, Zelgadis Greywords, Dark Elves, that kind of thing), so I always assumed I'd end up with Liara. Kaidan just charmed the pants off of me, and I ended up with him instead.

I think most of the LIs are good, and Kaidan and Garrus are my favorites. For me, it's because I legitimately cared about Kaidan... like, the video game made me experience an echo of actual human emotions... that I felt so irritated after Horizon. And now I don't know what I'm going to dooooo In ME3. Dooooo. Especially since they're both coming back.

since poly relationship is out of the question?  my suggestion is - play it twice!  keep Garrus in one playthrough and get Kaidan back in another

win/win :P

Multiple playthroughs are all about different things. I still don't understand how people can romance the same character on every single character, or make the same choices every time. Variety is the spice of life.

I explored all the options in ME1, but I wasn't as set in my ways then. In ME2 I've never played a Paragon or a non-Infiltrator or romanced anyone other than Tali.

Well yes, but I have a "cannon" shep whose actions I consider... well... cannon for me. So I get emotionally involved in her decisions. I do realize this is probably a symptom of some terrible form of insanity.

The only person I've never been tempted to romance was Jacob, but I did watch all his scenes on youtube at least!

Oh, I have a canon Shepard I'm invested in too.

I just like seeing the different options.

Some people like that. Having fun is more important.

same.  I've missed some smaller options I think, but I tried to cover as much ground as I could.  its actualy pretty interesting to play a character that doesn't quite feel comfortable because you are no longer playing based on your personal values...

simple. They don't have as much character development as most of the other characters / squad mates in the mass effect universe. I don't hate the VS, there just isn't as much there for me to like (or dis-like) as about 95% of the other main characters. They're at a disadvantage not being a main character in ME2, considering ME2 was entirely character development. Why people like less-developed characters over more-developed characters, I have no idea.
