I like Hawke much better in the first one. He just looks more natural, and he doesn't have that weird geometric beard and mustache. It's a moot point as we'll be customizing anyway.

The first looks a little cartoonish and akin to DA1, but the second one looks more refined and realistic.
Plus, Bethany looks more mature in the latter, honestly in the former she looked like Isabella from DA1 just with different hair!

Wow. Thanks for posting, almost everything in the second picture looks wayyy better to me. I never understood Beth's purple hair, so glad that's changed. Their hair looks far softer and the armor looks less like a blob of texture. The only thing I miss is Beth's rounder face, but I appreciate that it looks less cartoony.
You can also see some of the individual scruff hairs on Hawke's cheek in the second one. Maybe I am easily amused, but this makes me really happy. It also gives me hope for some beards that actually look realistic for custom bro Hawke.

Beth's hair looks like wet clay oozing out of a fissure and Hawke's beard looks like glossy plastic fibers from a cheap paint brush.

Okay, I'm not really fond of the armor in the second, but I can't even tell if that random black triangle in the first is armor or just, uh, random black triangle from nowhere, so yeah, I'm going with the second. The texture helps, too. What is with her hair/his beard in the first? Creepy.

The first is the mage armor. The second is the warrior armor.
