The decade has just begun. Are you sure we won't see a TES VI before it ends?

I just read the review actually, quite a nice one. It seems like the game'll be promising on the choice and consequences front.

Remember when PCGamer gave all their 'highest ever' reviews to Sid Meier games? Civilization II got a 96%, Alpha Centauri got 97%, etc.

They are a joke IMO, lost all credibility long ago when they started giving scores like that to games that were decidedly average.

I couldn't care less what awards Dragon age or which ever game wins. All I care about is that it's looking to be one hell of a year for RPG gamers. :D

Yeah, there is alot of games coming that may claim "RPG of the decade" even ones that have not been announced yet.

But teh review does say that Dragon Age 2 seems to be a pretty good game. That is all I needed to see. I will probably enjoy it, I will probably enjoy all of those games on that list (Especially since Dark Souls is coming to 360 as well!!)

Honestly ...

I don't know deus ex, so maybe that?
Witcher sucked for me, so I don't have much hope that TW2 is much better.
Oblivion sucked for me and the new game will rather be like that than Morrowind. They have the same technical issues as Bioware so with VO and top notch graphics, what are the chances for story etc?
Diablo ... rather hack'n slash than a RPG and I only liked the first one anyway, and that was probably because I was much younger.
If anything I suspect ME3 will make it. I would suspect that Bioware want to give the series a worthy ending.

Just because you didn`t like those games doesn`t mean they don`t have a chance for winning RPG of the year. Also ME3 won`t win it, I don`t think that franchise is even an RPG anymore.

I thought Diablo 3 came out a year ago! I don't know what is going on in this world anymore.

First off, I am a RPG junkie. So if I don't like a game it is because of lack or RPG elements. Of course in my opinion only.

Also, just because you don't like ME it doesn't mean they don't have a chance for winning RPG of the year.

I love ME, it`s just not really an RPG. It`s more of a shooter.

Looking at the time span in which they released DAA and DA2, we might have DA6 by the end of the decade. Plenty of sequels to better DA2. I say we'll almost certainly see DA3 in the next 3-4 years.

Well, the claim is that DA II would have no competition. These are all highly anticipated RPGs that are scheduled to come out this year. I think they qualify as competition if you're talking about mindshare or industry awards.

As for your specific complaints...
1) There are lots of people who consider games like Oblivion or Diabo to not be RPGs, but there are also many who consider them great RPGs. I suspect that Diablo 3 will probably outsell DA II by quite a margin and for the next few years we'll be flooded with D3 clones.

2) While several of these are sequels, they're also very different in terms of gameplay and how they express 'RPGness.' I think there's something for every taste, which is good, and for someone like myself who enjoys seeing how people do different things with the genre, it's great.

I love BioWare's games, but I fully expect that by the end of the year, I'll be hard pressed to pick the best of the lot.

Just because you shoot people it is still an RPG. Action RPG maybe.

@Maria I know already. Mine will me ME3 no matter what. I know it because I loved ME, loved ME2 even more and there really can't go much wrong with ME3. Not saying the others are not good games, but Mass Effect is just ... what Star Wars never could be for me.

There was no year zero. It started at one. I was a lot of fun at millenium parties.
