Gaider and his lackeys no doubt  have some twisted and demented plots in
store for us.  Let's try to figure out Flemeth's "plot twist."  If
everyone throws out a random idea, eventually we should be able to guess
it right.  I'll go first.

- Flemeth is a shameless Kreia ripoff, and wants the destruction of all magic in Thedas.

-
Flemeth is an Old God that realizes the inevitability of her death by
the Grey Wardens' hand once the Darkspawn flock to her.  Her goal is to
prevent that from happening.

- Flemeth wants Unlimited Power™

- Flemeth wants to destroy every living being on the planet.

Flemeth has something to do with the Hawkes. She sent the GW to stop the Blight for a reason. And I think the reason has to do with the Hawkes and what they do in Kirkwall, and maybe drags on into DA3. I assume she frequently mated Hawke's ancestors to keep the magic strong in the bloodline. Or she controlled it otherwise. So they are sort of Flemeth's 'chosen ones'. What for, only the Maker knows. And He is the silent type.

Well that would at least match to the unsatisfying ending some gaming mag predicted.

Lets Buck Shot this thing!!!

Flemeth is some cross between Spirit and Demon whose motivations have something to do with merging the Fade with the real world?

I'm sort of surprised that people think the meeting with the Hawke family is a chance encounter.

I mean, she managed to make sure that the Grey Wardens found her by stealing their treaties a century before the Blight hit but she never noticed a family of apostates living at the edge of the Wilds?

I wouldn't be surprised if we found out that Flemeth was the reason Malchom Hawke settled in Lothering.

I feel like she's the over arching force in thedas, like she's there just to make everything run smoothly, setting up the grey warden to defeat the blight and helping out the hawkes

I think that she also "awakened" the Architect and started the series of events that triggered the Blight that the warden dealt with in DA:O.

Or she's just the nutty mascot character that will show up in every DA game for the sole purpose of working the fans into a frenzy as they try to make sense of her (when there's no sense to be made). :P

I'm still holding out that she's the Maker passing eternity in ways only He can find amusing.

Considering how well the loose ends are being tied up (they're not) I doubt anything is planned. Things are just happening in the games because they're interesting or emotionally impacting. There are no hints in our games of whats to come because the future isn't written yet...

Flemeth is one of the tainted Tevinter Mages who broke into heaven, the only one to master the taint inside. But she is trapped, she can't "die" so she can't move on from this world. So she tries to build more and more power so she can storm into the Black City once more and claim it's throne for herself. Little does she know that the Maker is going to be making a comeback in Dragon Age 3. Either way what she wants is what she's been obsessed with since she was cast down so easily by the Maker. She wants the throne of heaven.

And her connection to the Hawkes is that of an ancient matriarch.

Then we can have  the Avatar of the Maker and Flemeth fight it out Godzilla style in Val Royeaux

Flemeth is in pursuit of confectioneries. She knew that saving the Warden would result in the dog finding cake.

Aside from the old god child business, the end of humanity would probably make her day to day life (of dispatching young adventurers on grand quests) less interesting. Motivation enough, I feel. I know I'd get out of my chair to ensure that I could keep having meandering, yoda like conversations with people who wouldn't try to bite my arm off.

Actually there is no need for a fight. The Maker banished Flemeth from ever reaching the Black City again. After realizing all her power is for nought she will fly into a madness and attack the party of the Player Character who finally managed to track her down. She will try to use the power of the Old God, who was sired by her would-be new host Morrigan and the Grey Warden. I'm sure they'll have it so that no matter what the Grey Warden is the father.

Well after tracking Flemeth to the door step of heaven she'll claim the only power greater than hers, one that can rival the Maker is the strength of an Old God. But the child has since gone missing after you find a slightly aged Morrigan. Flemeth tells you she has the child, and it's the truth. She has brought the Old God child with her... by luring you there. It's at this point that since the Maker won't show up you have to kill Flemeth before she weakens you enough to possess your body. At this point in the game, after you defeat and kill her once more you are faced with the choice to storm the seat of the Makers' heaven or leave and wander the mortal world with your new found power.

But what's this? After the colossal battle the barrier blocking the ancient Elven Gods is gone? Thus leading into Dragon Age 4, where the Elves, thanks to their gods, are returned to their power and glory.

The devs are aware of our theories. I think they would have the plot twist different from our theories. Their probably reading the thread right now and jotting notes NOT to have flemeth as a old god.
