Well the guys been dead for some time, so it could be a case of obsession rather than anything romantic. As for dark, I think it's a lot grimmer if the main antagonist's actions can potentially be justified. A much bleaker worldview than if you end up on a side of truth, justice and the american way by default. If it turns out she's just power mad, because, you know, who doesn't like power for it's own sake? I'll be most dissapointed.

Read The Stolen Throne everything she told maric come ture, he killed his true love (katriel) because he was betrayed.  In The Calling maric was told that a blight would come and he would not live to see it. that person who told him that was flemeth.

edit: In The Calling, Maric says that he was told by Flemeth. Flemeth wasnt actually present when reading the book

She was once a beautiful women.
She was once contacted by a spirit ( according to Morrigan ) Spirit Justice? Fade Spirit? Spirit Wynne?
She was later contacted by a demon ( according to Morrigan and Leliana )
She could possibly become the demon herself. ( according to Morrigan )
She cannot stop aging. She can transfer her soul to other host. The more powerful the host is the easier for her to settle in. She had prepared all her daughters for that matter. ( Black Grimoire )
All witches in the wilds are Flemeths. ( Black Grimoire ) Morrigan is Flemeth's youngest daughters.
She is an old bat who interested in pure essence of the taint. The Old Gods.
She can disguised herself to look different. ( Origins and Rise to Power )
She can cheat death ( Witch Hunt )
She is not abomination. Morrigan doesn't know what she is. ( Witch Hunt )
She never mention about The Maker but base on Morrigan's believe system, it is unlikely she believes in the Maker herself. It's reflect by her morality principle. Party banter between Morrigan and Leliana:

9. Andraste attacks the Tevinter empire .. and was able to bring them down thru hunger and by Converting them.

10. The cantry spreard across Thedas thu not a empire in self , they are the ruing power.

with the Free Marches as the power base for there Templar training.

11.Qunari invade Thedas going as far as the Free marches.. takes 4 exhalted marches to drive them back.

12.Hawke over throws the Templar's Power in Kickwall effectivly greatly weakening the Cantry power over Thedas.



My thoughts are the Flemeth began teaching the Tevinters magic..

and lead them to over throw the Elves.

by sinking the Arlathan , we get the Black City.

Hence the those poor elves where cursed and turn into the first Darkspawn...

for a time balance was restore to Thedas...

around this time the Dwarves came under siege by the darkspawn....... for punishment

During this time Tevinter Grew Greedy .....

having to fight the Darkspawn..... people became weary of the Tevinter ways and follow Andraste willing hoping for a new change.



With the over throw of the Tevinter empire , Balance was restore too Thedas .....

The Qunari failed to bring balance to Thedas....



With the Fifth Blight it became very importnat for Flemeth to Restore Urthemiel.

to a Host.



Flemeth reminds me of the Druids form the AD&D era.

So may take is that Flemeth has been working to Keep the Balance of Power thru out Thedas..

for she not a Old God more like a Demi-god of sorts..



By helping Hawke just enough too to set him on the path he need to follow.

She is setting the Stage for 20 years latter ..

if you did take the Dark Ritual...

The devs are aware of our theories. I think they would have the plot twist different from our theories. Their probably reading the thread right now and jotting notes NOT to have flemeth as a old god.

I don't know, I mean if their story already says that (and I'm they have the plot locked away in a safe, or maybe just Gaider's mind heh) I don't think they'll change it.

As for who Flemeth is... I am actually of the idea that she might be one of the Old Gods... Maybe one that wasn't worshipped because she kept out of that sort of thing and so wasn't banished by The Maker cause she wasn't known as a threat.  So, now she wants the Old God Baby uncorrupted so that she can have her family back, and they can then kick the Maker's butt and take over again.

I mean look at her dragon form... she doesn't look exactly like the High Dragons, she looks more like the Archdemons.
