Mass Effect the MMO!

MMOs ruin any good storyline. I know Bio is trying to change that with SWTOR, but what are the chances?

Well Bioware could finally make this original hardcore dark mature awesome-looking RPG with need of tactical thinkin, lots of logical puzzles and choices that really matter with brand new not copied IP, they always wanted to make but never did =)

Dark and mature?  Choices that really matter?  So then, basically what they've been doing?  ME and DA are both pretty dark and certainly mature, both present actual consequences and repercussions to player actions and decisions immediately, down the line, in end game, and even in the next game.

Tactical thinkin?  Can you elaborate?

Logical puzzles?  I want a Bioware-style RPG, not Lolo or Myst.  Nothing wrong with having to figure something out every once in a while if there is a good, natural in-game reason for it, but not as a primary game mechanic.  Lame.

Though I don't think it would happen, I would love to see BioWare get the right's to make a Shadowrun single player RPG. There hasn't been a good one since the early 90's and I don't count the Microsoft Shadowrun cause that wasn't an RPG.

While I think a new KOTOR would be incredible and a sequel to Jade Empire could be cool, I would like to see a new IP. A pirate RPG could have potential, honestly. However, I would most like to see another sci-fi RPG. Perferably with giant robots. Something like a Bioware version of the original Xenogears would be epic.

It's not so much the game, it's the people. 90% of the players don't give a damn about the story. I know hardcore rpgers just ignore them, but there are not enough of these to run a successful MMO anyway so in the long run the companies have to cater to the casuals more.

That would be awesome, but I'd prefer a low fantasy/horror CRPG set in the late 19th/early 20th century. Not steam punk, but something dealing with all the crazy occult movements of that era. Or a Delta Green CRPG.

Edit: It's an interesting topic, but shouldn't this thread be in the off-topic forum?

This issue has come up in two different threads recently and I keep coming back to the same thought...something along the lines of the Lovecraft Mythos! Not sure if that's an open property or Licensed, but Bioware could do some real damage to my wallet with something that has the character searching down the source of all dark Myths.

Iron Tower Studios are developing a Cthulhu Mythos CRPG called Cyclopean (it may be a working title, I'm not sure). I'm definitely going to check it out, but I'm not expecting much (ITS is a small German indie company). I wish a more established developer (preferably BioWare or Obsidian) would make a Lovecraftian CRPG.

how about everything we just discussed here, i mean seriously why not, we could have remakes of some of the most badass games in RPG history and some new ideas that all of us came up with

on a more serious note anything new is a risk, but also continuing with a franchise for a indefinite amount of time poses a serious risk, so bioware (and/or EA (i hope not ) ) should seriously consider their course of action. I would love to se Jade Empire 2, SWKOTOR 3, NWN 3, BG 3, etc, but i would also like to see a new IP that is set in the past/present/future with a good story and a new (or refined) type of gameplay mechanic, I mean why not, true is kinda of a big risk BUT well worth it considering Bioware's history with games, they have always delivered and most of the times (if not always) they have listened to the feedback from us fans/gamers/whatever we call ourself these days.

Same with the idea of making Jade Empire 2 really i think it'd only appeal to X Box owners who have a nostalgia thing for it most people who played the PC port didn't really like it so again you're appealing to minority audiences.

I have to disagree. after DA and ME, bioware should know how to make a rpg appeal to the majority. they just need to make some tweaks on character cumtomization, weapon/armor/clothes, and design a funtional combat system similar to ME2. then most rpg fans will somehow accept it

I'd buy almost any game that has Bioware written over it. I liked JE. Not as much as others did, so I don't think it was one of Bioware's best, but it was a fun game. And I play on PC.

If everything was that simple more RPG sequals would have big sales. The difference here is that ME and DA appealed from the start and already had the audience moving forward to sequals. When new games come out you need to have that buzz and anticipation and since only a minority liked the first game then that buzz isn't there for a sequal so they'll find it harder to give people reasons to buy it. Unless it was a complete overhaul of story and combat system to make it a more interesting game but then it would not be Jade Empire anymore. Sometimes you need to let a game rest and not resurect it for nostalgia's sake.

Same for all these people who want Baldur's Gate 3 and all that nonsense. Let good games rest and don't let sequals be made that you know you won't like. They'll never capture the things from the past that you loved because this is the now. Move on and encourage new ideas instead of trying to relive your past over and over by wishing for remakes.

we don't know how many of those potential customers or MMO players enjoy a single-player RPG experience. I would say that those are the people who could be drawn in by SWTOR, not the people looking to bring down the newest end-game raid bosses first.

This is a typical "choice that matter" in Bioware games ;)

Certainly something I'll be watching for!
During the height of the CCG craze when just about EVERY subject you could think of had a CCG I played a great one called Mythos, but it never really took off.
Part of the Game was a "Character Card" that gave different bonuses for the type of Adventurer you chose...the types would be easily translated into the classic Warrior/Mage/Rogue Archetypes...something along the lines of Ivestigator/Mystic/Academic would be easily done.
If Bioware does move into the Horror Genre, I would certainly like to see something that goes deeper than Vampires, Zombies, and Werewolves...although they should be included.

Isn't that the "choice" in all games that offer it? You need to still follow a narrative even if you offer choices so really it's just different ways of advancing the narrative.

BioWare will keep churning out games in the ME and DA universe, until EA closes them down a few years down the line.

If they were to make a JE2, I hope they'd make it a lot longer than the original. JE was painfully short.

And more character customization. Three or four appearances, and no option to change the character's clothes/armor, really wasn't enough IMO.

I loved the setting and the story, though, and would really like to see a sequel.

Not to mention that you had no real reason to do any of the side quests, The storyline twist was really predictable and that last boss fight was pathetic. No skill needed just bash buttons.

Under a whole different regime than the one in charge now. People need to stop assosiating an old regimes mistakes to EA now. The man in charge now was investing in Bioware before he even took charge at EA as part of the deal that got Bioware to sell to them. So i doubt he's in a hurry to shut them down.
