Just keeping this up top and visible, at least until there is some sort of official response.

Everything seems fine for me but I do see the point for users that have eyesight problems or other issues.
An option to scale text would be greatly apreciated.

C'mon, Bioware. I really don't want to miss out on this title, but I'm not gonna play a game that I can't enjoy. :/

Wow, do all of you have to be such elitist morons about this? This thread makes it pretty clear that pretty much ALL SDTVs are incapable of displaying this ridiculously tiny text in a readable way. What you seem to have ignored completely in your quest to rush in here and diagnose people with eye problems is that there are plenty of people with HDTVs that think the text is too small. Just because it looks fine on your HDTV doesn't mean the other person is a blind moron that needs glasses. If you'd bothered to read Giadriana's post, you'd see that this IS ONLY A PROBLEM WITH THIS GAME! Bad eyesight is bad eyesight universally. If one's eyesight is bad enough to need glasses, guess what? They will need them for ALL games! Not just be able to play Halo with perfectly clear vision but then suddenly need glasses because they switch to Dragon Age 2.

Seriously. How ****ing hard is it to understand that this is NOT a vision issue or a matter of sitting too far away or anything of the sort! The text is too ****ing small regardless of how close you are, if you're wearing glasses, if you've got a bag over your head, if you're underwater, etc. if you're on an SDTV! And in plenty of cases, if you're on an HDTV, as evidenced by this thread. I mean, how can you honestly continue to defend this? Would it really have killed anyone or hurt anything to leave the text the same size as Origins? What's that? No? It would have been perfectly fine, considering there weren't mass protests over ridiculously large fonts in Origins? Yet they chose to go with the stupidly small font... AGAIN... after they'd gotten these exact same complaints over it being too small in ME2. To keep trying to act like this is our fault somehow is completely retarded.

Ninja, I just wanted to let you know that I appreciate you speaking so avidly for those of us who have trouble seeing. Keep it up

Uh, yeah. I realize that. Hence why I addressed why it's still a stupid statement. Users with HDTVs are having trouble, regardless of need for glasses. This person already has glasses. This person, using said glasses, can read EVERY OTHER XBOX GAME'S TEXT (with the probable exception of the other three that stupidly did this)! Now, if you were actually capable of reading comprehension, this would tell you that this person doesn't need to buy an HDTV or get glasses or get new glasses (since all other vision would be affected as well by needing a new prescription, not just Dragon Age 2), because this is a real problem that BioWare was needlessly caused and has been ignoring.

Also, "u mad" = universal douchebag's way of conceding they have no intelligent response. You're damn right we're mad. We've pre-ordered the game for $60 and might not be able to play it. If you're happy about paying money for something you can't use, well then good for you. Most people like the things they spend their hard earned money on to work.

I had kind of hoped this would have been responded to by a Dev come today, considering the new work week.

Its like what...8 days until release? Do you not know or won't tell Dev's?

Ok since I'm a homely console player I have to take pictures of my tv to show my warden/shep off. Anyway I always use my dsi to take these pictures because then I can just upload them to facebook. I took some DA2 pictures to compare the text size to show my pc playing friend and I thought I might as well post them here too.

Mind you the nintendo dsi doesn't take the best quality photos. Which is probably for the best because I want to prove that the quality of the image from my SDTV is not the issue, but rather the size of the text.

Played the Demo on the 360 and loved the gameplay as I did with the Original Orgins on the 360 but yes the Text is way to small, it is even more unreadable then the original text size for BK N&B when I first played that.

Would like this fixed as I have bad eye site and I am not replacing this TV as it works fine for every other game. It is WAY to early to assume every gamer has a HDTV.

Was a Great game but if you aren't going to develop with everyone in mind then the people you leave out aren't going to buy it if they can't read it.

Complaining about text size really? ... reeeally?

that's hilarious.

Yes, you're right. How juvenile of us to complain that the text size, in a game that's all about story and has a freaking TON of text, is unreadable. We should all be instead complaining about things like Flemeth and others looking different or that Kirkwall is the name of a real life city which makes it somehow break immersion, or perhaps just be discussing Isabella's new giant rack. In case you can't pick up on my sarcasm, those are all discussions that have been going on this whole time, that (in my opinion) are practically worthless, and that BioWare employees have responded on. Yet this issue that you clearly consider stupid, unlike those ones, will actually prevent those of us with SDTVs (Or with HDTVs but that just happen to be unlucky) from being able to even play the game due to not being able to read it.

Or to put it another way, we're complaining that we actually WANT to be able to play the game, rather than contribute to the myriad of topics *****ing about the changes. Shouldn't we, people whose main complaint is "We just want to be able to play your awesome game", be the kind of fans BioWare cares about making happy?

WELL PUT!!!  Thank you. :police:

I have a SDTV and I can't read the text either. DAO's text was very small but still readable. Demo for DA2 was completely unreadable.

Thanks for the screencaps, Lenimph. :) I think the proof is pretty conclusive that the text size in the DA2 demo is ridiculous.

I'm unsurprised by Bioware's lack of response though; in the few months I've been here it seems that the devs hardly ever concern themselves with legitimate concerns with the games; they'll get to responding in their own sweet time, and in the meantime we're expected to just grin and bear it and lay down more cash for their releases on good faith. Leave them alone, they're doing important things like chastising forum goers for discussing in-game love interests too much, and defending the clothing choices of their characters.

Back to the demo though; I actually got a friend who had not played Dragon Age to download the demo, and he said it looked interesting, but the text size game him a headache, so he'll stick to WOW and Elder Scrolls. Can you imagine the amount of other new players that might have been turned off by this concern, which some of our fellow forums goes are trying very hard to make out is our own fault? I don't know whether to laugh or cry.

Well, that is disheartening. I sent off a message to him too explaining the problem again and asking if anything could be done (because hey, can't hurt).

Edit: Same basic thing he said to the other person. Text is the same size in the main game, and 'A patch would be possible if deemed necessary from fan feedback.'
So I pointed him to the forum threads and how many of us really think that it is needed.
So...doubt it, but here is hope.

I'm fine with that answer by itself, as there WILL be enough fan feedback for it to matter... but then the question is, how would fan feedback cause them to be able to fix it, when fan feedback made them "look into it" for ME2, but they found it impossible to do due to Microsoft's patch restrictions?

Which is a BS reason to not patch the game anyway. The workaround to that is to do multiple patches. One patch to lay the foundation for the next (Sony does this with their system updates a lot, they'll prep the system for future modifications). With the first patch you change the font/install a new, larger font and implement/install a portion of the needed text modifications in a separate file. The second patch can be used to install the rest of the needed files and then activate the previous changes.

I say this now, because that should be a solution to the problem for 360 consoles IF they actually intend to solve this problem.  IF they inted to solve this problem, the PS3 and PC versions should get patches Day 1/Day 2. There is already a 'significant' fan response for a change and the game is not even out yet. The 360 version would perhaps take longer to implement but a fix is not "impossible". Nothing is impossible with enough ingenuitiy.

So they made the text in ME2 too small. Many people complained. They said they would look into it, but later said it was impossible. Now the text in DA2 is even smaller and unreadable in a text heavy game. The response is that they will fix the text if enough people complain. Even though they already said a patch to fix text size was impossible.

Guess that means they aren't ever going to fix it. Just empty promises to placate us into buying the game or shutting up. What a shame.

Sent them a question asking if a patch is even *possible*, citing ME2's patch problems. No response yet.
