I am glad other people think the writing is too small. I was wondering whether I just had bad eyes!

Well, I played the demo finally, and the text is just way too small. One way to get around that is to switch to Widescreen if you're playing on Xbox... of course, that distorts all the images, but at least it's something. Other than that, just squint and hope for the best. I mean hell, you can't even read the dialogue options! I could understand if it was just the codex, but it's the dialogue, item descriptions... everything. Big disappointment.

The fact that nobody has bothered to respond to this means that there isn't going to be an option to change text size (unless they patch the game, which I doubt). It's already "gone gold," so if there was any way to fix the text they would already have said something... whatever...

I'm fine with that answer by itself, as there WILL be enough fan feedback for it to matter... but then the question is, how would fan feedback cause them to be able to fix it, when fan feedback made them "look into it" for ME2, but they found it impossible to do due to Microsoft's patch restrictions?

Was going to wait until I finished reading the whole thread to comment but this one caught my eye. Yeah....I'm pretty close to calling out Bioware on this one. There are potentially more issues involved than mere patch file size constraints and I get that, but they made it sound like this was the big issue. It was essentially something to that fact that Microsoft requires them to treat each console as if it doesn't have a Hard Drive so they have to keep the patches small.

Well, I would have totally bought that except for this one time. Every patch I had seen (downloaded at least 30 total in all my games) was generally between 2-4MB. And then what do you know, Black Ops has an 11MB patch. So yeah...I dunno.

And now that I've finished reading, on topic comment:

I have glasses (see 20/20 with) and a 47" HDTV. I was standing up while playing much of the demo (I like to do that....shuddap) but admittedly, I was also consuming alcohol. I was probably 4" from the screen or so. I wasn't nearly drunk enough to start having problems reading text but yeah, I remember having to get in real close during level up times. Certainly a valid complaint to be had.

(In total fairness and honestly, I'm not buying DA2 for completely separate reasons. I just wanted to try the demo to see what the game was like. Wouldn't have affected my decision either way.)

For now, all I think we can do is just keep at it with this topic. Keep it going, and keep it near the topic (with on topic discussion) so that they *know* that this is a thing that is needed. We need to make sure they hear that feedback that would 'deem a patch necessary'.

Someone on here gave me the advice to adjust the settings in my xbox and it worked. The text is still small, but I can read it now. Maybe it will work for others. I hope so.

Nice try, though.

First time posting here, just for this issue.

I downloaded the demo on the day of it's release for my PC and had no problem. So I was very excited to download it today for my 360. I start playing it and I am appalled at the text size. Text for abilities descriptions and even dialogue text is completely unreadable for me. So how can I play a game that I can’t even read? Simple answer: I can’t.

Yes, I own a SDTV. No, I can’t afford an HDTV. Before anyone claims that I can afford a 360 and games, my console was a Christmas gift. My games were either gifts, borrowed or bought used. I planned on using a gift card I got for my birthday to buy DA2. So no, I cannot afford an HDTV, as much as it would be lovely to have one. I just can’t.

Seeing the response that some of you gotten on this subject is kind of, rage worthy. I understand SDTV’s are being fazed out. But if Bioware planned on making DA2 a HDTV game only, they should have said so months ago so that people who could afford it could buy a new TV or start saving up. Having to find out weeks before the release, after pre orders have been made, is a slap in the face. Not to mention SDTV user’s aren’t the only ones having this problem, but HDTV’s users are as well.

It also really bothers me that a similar issue happened to ME2 and they did nothing to fix it, and are doing the same thing again. If the matter isn’t fixed before the release, or even mentioned, it probably won’t be for a while.

I really want to play DA2, so I’ll probably just end up getting ot for the PC if I don’t hear anything about changes in text. I don’t really want to, especially since my PC isn’t really a gaming PC, but I’ve been looking forward to this game. So it makes me really sad to see I can’t enjoy it the way I was hoping I could.

A couple hundred? You can get a good one for 150...It won't be 5000000", but it'll be better than any size SDTV...

asdf;kja;skjfkljasfd. The text is going to be small? Not cool. :(

This. We complained, they acknowledged the problem, then said they couldn't do anything about it. I fear we face the same issue with DA2. Bioware, can you please have a way to patch this? :(

Okay, I just played the demo after switching the settings on my 360 to wide screen and it helped A LOT. The text is still very tiny, and I have to sit closer to my TV, but it's actually readable. If you're having the tiny text issue I would suggest trying this and see how you feel about it.

I might actually be able to play the full game now, so this makes me happy.

Well, if the community complaining is what it takes...

Please Increase the Text Size so i dont have to use my binoculars.

Thank you,

I'm gonna go try the Widescreen solution for the PS3 version of the demo, see if that helps.

IT MAKES IT WORSE. Dear god. "Widescreen" is much worse than the 4:3 on the PS3. Orders of magnitude worse. The text size is still an issue, but after trying the game in "Widescreen", 4:3's text might as well be as large as the text on a billboard.

My head hurts now from trying to read that text at all.

Which raises an interesting question. If the game is, like the morons around here like to claim, only made for HDTV why does the game support a 4:3 ratio when HDTV is 16:9?

Yeah, thought so.

Same problem here. Most annoying, considering DA:O was perfectly legible on my TV. Anyone from Bioware able to comment on this?

Just played the demo, and yes, the text *is* ridicilously small. My tv does have a 16:9 setting, and I tried both that and widescreen setting, but even when I use those, the letters are still very small.

The problem with the text is not just being able to read it, but not being able to read it because the text is too small....

I'm sorry the widescreen solution didn't help you. :( I think this just proves that this is a problem Bioware needs to fix. I really don't think they will though.

The Demo text is:
1. too small
2. a serif font (ie. lots of fancy curley-cues etc) that compound the problem
3. colored variants of the font have different degrees of reading difficulty - from barely ok to impossible
4. background coloring hurts readability too.
All these problems could have been avoided by using a sans-serif font 2 to 4 points larger during design. I have zero hope that BioWare will patch this...

Personal solution attempts. adjusted the contrast, brightness and color intensity on the TV. adjusted brightness in the game options. changed the display on Xbox to widescreen.
results: poor... slightly more readable in widescreen xbox mode, captioning and dialogue that runs along the top is cut off however. Color adjustments did nothing. Brightness and Contrast did the most, by eliminating the "glare" around the lettering.
I am off to buy an HDTV - thankfully I saw this coming and have been saving up

As for ME2, Microsoft, I think?, has a lot to say here, I'd guess, since Mass Effect first was Xbox esxclusive, Not so with Dragon Age. Or so I hope. And I do hope someone tech savy can inform me why this is a problem, I don't mean the text is tiny, but why the text is tiny? Is it a pixel issue or?
