Buying an HD console for an SD TV is not the brightest move in my opinion. It should be the other way around, you get the TV first, then the devices you want to connect to it.
? really considering that the only draw back to playing it on SD is that you sometimes have to squint to read the words. I thought it a rather smart one.. saved myself a thousand to spend else where.

Why would I spend hundreds of dollars on a new TV when I hardly ever watch television? The fact that my PS3 is a HD console is irrelevant to me; I only upgraded from the PS2 because nobody but Atlus was making new games for it anymore.
But I'm making this out to be a bigger deal to me than it really is just to be argumentative, and I apologize for that. I bought and enjoyed ME2 in spite of this issue and I'll do the same with DA2. And looking on the bright side, once I finally do upgrade I can go back to these games and they'll be all shiny.

the only draw back of SD tv is the font size? I guess you have never watched/played anything in HD.

You don't have to upgrade if you don't care too, but not upgrading will always mean that games become more and more suboptimal on your setup. That is just the nature of our technological culture. It is a tradeoff that is personal to everyone. I can understand though that for console players especially, it might be somewhat jarring - PC players are obviously going to be much more comfortable with regular upgrades.
That said, I fully hope that Bioware does include a text size option in the full game (or a patch) to make things better for SDTV players.

i've watched/played games on a HDTV(my moniter on my comp is HD). I am not impressed. While the visuals were better, the improvement was not great enough to warrant me buying another television set

This. Some people don't care to waste what little disposable income they have keeping up with the rampant progress of technology. My old tv works fine, why should i have to buy a new one to read text on a videogame. Making it a few points bigger and making sure there is good contrast between text and background would solve the problem, no?
Exactly. This whole "games are made for HD" televisions excuse is absolute BS. There is no reason they couldn't make font size a little bit bigger.
I have a rather large SDtv in a rather close proximety to my bed and I never had this issue before. I just feel like Bioware failed powerpoint 101.
(Then again I'm playing the demo again right now and it doesn't seem as small as it did when I was tired last night...
The game looks great on my TV otherwise. I love my giant archaic tv!

But the difference is trifling, especially considering the cost.hamlin69 wrote...

Yes i'm playing on a SDTV not everyone has a HDTV though.
Thats your problem.
If you cant afford an HDTV, start saving cause all xbox/ps3 games are in HD.
Also Mass Effect 2, Dragon Age 2, and the Banjo Kazooie N&B Demo have been the only console games I have encountered where the text was uncomprehensibly small. Fortunately Rare actually listened to the complaints and fixed the text size, which I doubt Bioware will do. Personally I would like the entire HUD to be bigger as I forgot to check my team's health status multiple times as it was so far off screen and tiny.

Edit: also play the 640x480 on a old tube monitor then play the 1920x1080 on a LCD monitor

The problem is, no matter how sharp the picture is, if the letters are too small you have to either sit right in front of the screen and wear binoculars. seeing the letters on a 1920*1080 computer monitor that is 2 feet from your face is easier than seeing letters on a 1920*1080 tv that is 8 feet from your face. While on an sdtv, the letter will be blurred no matter how close you sit, but almost all console users are having trouble to some extent.hamlin69 wrote...
If you want to notice the difference, go to you computer, play a game on 640x480(sd tv's) and then play it on 1920x1080(1080p resolution). If you can't see a difference you must be blind.
Edit: also play the 640x480 on a old tube monitor then play the 1920x1080 on a LCD monitor

Except I, and many others DIDN'T buy an HD console. I bought an X-Box 360 that works perfectly fine on a CRT TV with composite cables as long as the developers don't stupidly decide to go with the smallest possible font, and also happens to do HD as well SHOULD YOU PREFER. I shouldn't have to shell out $300+ for an HDTV just because the dev doesn't want to make the font slightly bigger or add in a setting specifically for SDTVs.
Aside from Dead Rising (Which Capcom was majorly complained at for not patching in larger text that was readable on SD, this is the only game I've had this bad of a problem with, despite all of you guys' "All games do this now since it's an HDTV!" stance. In this case, it's actually WORSE than most others simply because it was ledgible in DA: O / Awakenings. The font was just fine in that, and that was on the same "HD console", yet to read the text in this game easily, I'd need a freaking set of binoculars.
Playing for that half hour (Well, probably hour, due to trying to actually read the text) of the demo, I not only finished with a severe headache, but now am seriously debating whether or not I should even keep my preorder if this is gonna be the case in the final. It's basically completely unreadable if you don't have an HDTV, and there's no way I'm going out and buying an HDTV just because of this game.

Besides, with the job market being so atrocious as of late (in America, at least) the concept of people just blowing cash needlessly is downright silly. Sure, the HD craze is gaining speed ...but it is still a luxury, not a necessity. There should really be an option to have larger text. And this is really such a simple fix it would be downright moronic for them to not throw it in. It doesn't hurt them to have the option, and it will cause more copies to sell if they do have it.
