Yeah... if someone could just tell me if this is what the font is going to look like in the final version so i can cancel my preorder, i would be much obliged. not getting a new TV for this, not ruining my eyes. if other developers can do this, so should bioware

I would also like an answer prior to release.

You don't need an HDTV. You can pick up a decent widescreen monitor for around $150 and use that to game on. The only difference between the two is you don't have a built-in TV tuner in a monitor. Most monitors even have speakers nowadays.

This doesn't excuse the small text, however. Playing the PC demo at 1920x1080 was a strain on my eyes, too. It's almost as bad as Titan Quest at the same resolution. In TQ, however, the story wasn't all that important to be honest, and I read about skills and such beforehand so I didn't have to read them in-game. Dead Rising was the biggest perpetrator of this. I had a hard time reading that on my roommates 52" TV, FFS.

Yeah, i'm not sure if i can go through with my preorder either. I can barely afford to buy the game, and certainly not to buy a new tv just to be able to play the game. I guess i might have to wait and see whether this issue gets resolved before deciding on what to do.

I guess we might be getting a new tv next year (though our current tv is just 3 years old!) and i will see by then if i am still interested in getting the game. By then i would guess Skyrim will feel more interesting to buy though.

It's not that i can't afford a new TV, it's just that i don't see the necessity for doing so. My setup works fine with all other xbox games i have been playing so far and if Biowares stuff won't comply with my television, than this is sloppy work on their part. The result for me is, that instead of getting a new TV, when my old one works perfektly fine, I just won't be getting the game. Don't get me wrong, this really is a bummer for me, because i had fun with the demo. But it seems like they're not even able to give me a straight answer to the question i have posed: Will the font be this small in the full version or not? Hello? Anybody?

Well god damn it. Now I have to cancel a perfectly good Bioware Signature Edition Pre-Order for the PS3 simply because of a failure to Legacy Support.

Yes, SD/4:3 Ratio TVs are 'obsolete', but they are still in service. They are even still sold. Most people are going to own a SDTV, therefore good business sense demands that you SUPPORT IT.

I wonder if I can somehow convince EB to change the PS3 version to the PC version and still keep the BSE. Hmm.

Well, I'm about to cancel an order I otherwise don't want to cancel... I wish there was a way to just contact them/get an answer without seeming like a whiny little **** about it. >.>

shouldn't it be enough to post here? Bioware-guys *are* responding to other posts, why not this one?

Because there are hundreds of posts and thousands of replies and the most talked in/biggest issue posts are likely to get responses. This is a "relatively minor" issue and also, these forums are *technically* for the PC version.

Are you playing on PC or xbox?

What i've learned so far is that **** don't be related to the monitor/tv you are using...

(Dear bioware social network,

how are you, i am fine, the weather is great.
why won't you let me post in a normal manner? Why do i have to click you twice or thrice to rant here? Hence the double posts...

Sincerely yours,)

Pfff. On pc the text is fine. Something with the consoles then.

Depends on your resolution...I am running it at 1920x1200 and the text is still small.  The codex appears to be easier to read than DAO, but I still would like an option to scalle the text fonts just a bit larger.

You still see standard def TVs for sale?  Wow.  Considering HDTVs have been around for 10+ years, it's time to move forward.  Technology and time marches on, my friend.

Where do you live? Cause here in Ontario Canada SDTV's are not sold in stores..only HDTV's. I think the last time I saw a SDTV sold was at a dollar store for about 25$ (19inch or so).

Also you can change your version if you ask them. I am not sure about the signature edition but I preordered COD:BO on xbox and asked for PS3 version and they let me.

ps. The text on my 42 inch plasma is nice and big, I really don't know what you guys are talking about.

Are you playing the PC version at 1980x1200 resolution?  Or the Xbox/PS3 version at 720p?  That makes a big difference.  If I dropped my PC version down to 1280×720, the text would appear larger.

I'm able to read text on other games just fine. So far Bioware's games is the only one I played that I found the text unreadable on SDTV.

Don't get me wrong, the text looks fine on my computer at 1440x900 (16:10). The issues with the text, for me, are on the console version. SDTVs run at ~640×480. For NTSC 4:3, at least. That's where the problem 'comes in'. It's not like it even requires a major fix to get a game working at that resolution. Scale Screen size (stretch/shrink to aspect) and increase Dots per Inch (DPI) for the text. Though, I've been up 22 hours and I might not be remembering/thinking that through right. Meh. Point is, there is really no excuse to not support SDTVs for as long as that S stands for STANDARD. >.>

Another preorder that will probably be canceled here. Yes, I own an SDTV. Yes, the text is absolutely unreadable unless I sit less than two feet away from my (fairly large) screen and squint. Yes, playing the one hour demo gave me a splitting headache. The game is unplayable. You know, I would dearly love to have an HDTV, but they don't exactly grow on trees. Neither does the $300 I'd need to buy one. If anybody would like to donate $300 to the Buy Me an HDTV Fund, I'd be really grateful. I've got thank you cards! But until then, I'll have to save up very little by very little, starting with the money that I would have spent on Dragon Age 2. Because if I don't have $300 to spend on an HDTV, I sure don't have $60 to spend on a coaster.

Don't cancel it just yet. Apparently, this demo is based on an "ages" old build, so it's possible they've fixed it in the final. That's all I really want is an answer on whether or not it actually has been. I was told by the live chat csr last night that it will be fixed, but this was after he responded to the question with "The official release of the Dragon Age 2 has not been disclosed yet. As soon as the games gets officially released you should able to download the demo as well as the full version.", thus I'm not too inclined to place too much money on that being correct until someone else from BioWare tells us on here.

Yeah, I'm not inclined to place $60 on that being correct either. I'll give it about a week for somebody to get back to us, but unless I get official confirmation that the game will actually be playable, I'll have to take my ball and go home, so to speak.

Yeah, i really hope that the full version wont have this problem. Should be easy enough to have an option to increase text size in the game..

Hopefully we can get some response on this in time so i can pick the game up the 8th

I am wondering about this issue too. I was hoping to get DA2 for my xbox but the text is just unreadable, even with my glasses on. I don't have an HDTV nor the money to go get one at the moment. At the moment it looks like I may have to hold off on buying the game as well. It would be nice to get clarification if this will be fixed in the retail version of the game or if there will be a patch to fix it.
