Hi everyone

The Dragon Age 2 demo is now available on Xbox Live (Gold accounts) and will be up today for PC and Playstation 3.

I am seeing lots of threads with "my demo feedback/impressions/thoughts, etc". Rather than have multiple threads pop up all over the place, this thread is for everyone to post their impressions.

Please say whether you are playing the PC, Xbox 360 or PS3 version and let us know your thoughts about the demo. Both positive and negative feedback is fine (as long as it is constructive. Saying "I didn't like X in the demo and this is why, is fine. Saying "it sucks" is not very helpful. You get the idea).

So please, let us know what you think of the Dragon Age 2 Demo. :)

This is for discussing the demo, folks. Not for the (by now, done to death) 'what is an rpg' discussion.

Aside from that, the loading during cutscenes is choppy and obtrusive and the lipsynching is off in some of the cutscenes.

We had some problems with loading before conversations in some PC configurations that are likely what you've been experiencing. My wife's PC had similar issues, and I can happily confirm that hers no longer has this issue between the time we were working on the demo and the final builds of the game. Likely an issue that's already resolved in the shipping build.

I'm going to say this again - this is NOT the thread to discuss other RPGs. It is for feedback about the demo, not discussing what is an RPG or what other games are 'truer' RPGs.

I think the new friendship/rivalry system got potential but it looks a little like it's already setup in favour of who we are suppose to befriend and who we should fight. I just hope the brother and sister is the only two that comes with the bar leaning one way or another and that the story is not leaning in favour of one direction for the rest.

Beyond that the game seem to set up our character as being a warrior type since even if we are playing a mage it behaves the same (stepping in front of Templar). With that in mind I think I personally will try to play a mage first since I would prefer not spending my first playthrough fighting with the game over what direction I wish to take. Besides the brother looks rather dull in comparison to the sister.

In fact, if you're a mage the cutscene is a little different than if you're a warrior/rogue. In the former, the action should be focused a bit more on you, while in the latter, it should be focused on Bethany.

Of course, it's entirely possible that the same cutscene is playing in both cases, as it's been ages since I've seen the demo build, but hopefully not ;)

I apologies if this has been asked and answered but does anyone know if the pause and issue orders will be available for console or is that gonna be just PC only?

Pull your left trigger, or L2 on PS3 to pause the game by bringing up the radial menu. You can issue orders from it, switch party members and so on.

Anyone else having stutter in dialogue/cutscenes?
I've got a pretty high end gaming rig and i seem to gett stutter and small delays mid scene.
No problems during fights.

Love the demo otherwise, mage seems to rock.
I'm suddenly unsure if I should play as rogue, was 100% sure before demo. Dont' get me wrong, rogue rocks too, but mage feels equally cool.

This is an issue with the way we used to handle loading of cutscenes - I'm not a technical guy so I don't know exactly what happened, but this is no longer a problem in the final build.

Some of you seem to be labouring under the idea that the 'no platform wars' rule is not in effect for this thread.

You would be wrong. Consider this a one-time, across-the-board warning.

Might be better if I stayed locked-on to the enemy I'm trying to attack but there was no button for doing it manually

Push your left thumbstick in. It'll lock target or unlock if you have one locked. Same on PS3.

Twoproblem i have and I am assuming one is just the way the demo is set up, you can only show so much,  is that everything is exactly linear.  Im assuming in the full game that wont be a problem. I hope.

The linearity is a function of the demo. The opening of the game (like most game openings) is linear, but the jump to Isabela represents anywhere from 5 to 20 hours of gameplay, depending on what you do.

I would have loved to show some non-linear parts of gameplay, but to do so would have required some nigh-impossible backflips simply because the game is VERY open around the time when you meet 'Bela. Hence the decision to keep it focused on action and let you try a higher-level combat with some different party members.

Just wanted to note that everyone's entitled to their opinion, whether positive or negative. Having said that, personal attacks, platform wars and off-topic discussions are not something for this thread.

Thanks for the feedback, everyone, and keep it coming.

I hate the loading and the pauses during a cutscene, I really hope this isnt going to make in the game. I mean in ME2 the cutscenes have much more fluent. So it is possible!

This is actually fixed in the release build!

I was wondering, is the demo generally an old build for all the platforms? I was playing it on the PS3 and I noticed a few things like the lack of battle cries/grunts from everyone and audio hiccups.

Usually (and in this case), a demo build is a few montsh old - once we have a build that's stable, we stick with it simply because you need to test it heavily to make sure it doesn't crash and if you keep switching builds, you aren't given the time to do that.

Content changes are less drastic than some of the code changes/optimizations that have gone in since that build, but even there, some stuff has changed.

A reminder that everyone's entitled to their opinion, whether positive or negative.

If you can't respect another's opinion, please do not post. This applies whether they're for or against the changes in DA2.

Thanks.

Here's a very simple rule for discussion on these forums.

If you bring up a complaint and avoid insulting others in your post, congratulations! You've made a successful post.

If you find yourself using the phrase 'ADHD casual masses', 'console kiddies' or anything similar in your post, you're likely not contributing to the discussion in a constructive way and should probably refrain from posting.

This has been a public service announcement.

I dislike what I've seen of DA2 because it seems to have changed too much from the original.  I feel it's moved away from being a real RPG.

Is that allowed, or does any criticism of BW now earn you the banhammer?

The moderators seem heavy-handed and overly-defensive to me.

If folks are simply posting their criticisms of the demo, then they are not being banned. I don't mind people having negative opinions - however, hostility towards other users is not tolerated, nor is deliberately provoking a negative response.

Today, I have banned folks for:
-sexism
-homophobia
-insulting the intelligence of other users
-spamming
-racism

These are all clear violations of the Terms of Service. Again - be as negative as you want towards the game, but if you're going to insult another user/group, you will be banned. This is not new.

Alright, let's cut out the talk about breast size. It's verging into sexism territory in a few cases, and I don't want to have to start handing out bans.

True, i guess im just really angry right now. I just think they are being unfair to bioware. If all theese people are insulted bioware so much i should be able to insult them.

No you shouldn't.

Bioware is a company soliciting opinions about a product.

Quite so. If people want to fling vitriol at us, that's fine - we're all thick skinned and can certainly take it.

However, insults towards other posters don't really make for a constructive forum environment. So we don't look kindly on them.

So long as you don't insult the hair. Never insult the hair.

Hmm, is not a discussion about why this game sadly slavishly continues the trend of hypersexualising female characters ( by way of giving them large breast sizes ) in games ( in a way that male characters are not hypersexualised ) a valid discussion to have ?

That discussion is not sexist surely ?

And that the only spokespersons we have seen or heard for the game ( designers, writers etc ) are men ? Perhaps that hints at why games still can't break that particular sexist design cycle.

Because discussions on breast size on these forums tend to degenerate into 'you're sexist!' 'No you're not!' 'Well you're just jealous because you don't have large breasts!'

Not a discussion we're going to have in this thread. Rail about the unfairness of my despotic edict all you like, but it's not going to happen. End of discussion.

What's with the sound? It is hard to what the characters are saying during cutscreens.

Try the "Force Stereo" toggle in the options menu.  If you're not really hearing the VO, it's likely that your system is outputting in 5.1, but you're only hearing the left and right channels.  The VO in cutscenes sits mostly in the center channel during 5.1 output, so you wont hear it if you're only getting left/right.

If you have a surround system, check to see if all your speakers are playing sound.  If you're playing in stereo, try the "Force Stereo" toggle that I mentioned before.  Let me know how that works out :)
