Copy & paste of what I've written in my journal:

THAT WAS TOTALLY AWESOME!!!11ELEVEN

Basically, it's like Origins but with:
- better graphics (more polished, better textures)
- better dialogue cutscenes (i.e. characters don't just stand there idly  but walk, have more facial expressions, move their hands and so on)
- faster combat (the combat itself is almost the same, but has less "shuffling")
- bigger boobs and more cleavage (oops!)
- totally unrealistic sword swinging animations (derp)

I paused to issue orders most of the times, so don't trust people who say
that DA2 is a hack'n'slash game like Diablo. I kinda miss friendly fire
because big AoE spells are really POWERFUL, but since you'll be mobbed
by dozens of enemies, a fireball or two are more than welcome.

The dialogue wheel is not a big problem thanks to icons. I regretted my
choice just once because I choose a "diamond" option without knowing
what that icon meant (I'll read the manual!!). Oh, and FemHawke's voice
actress is... let's say she's worse than Jennifer Hale (Bastila, Fem
Shepard) or Courtenay Taylor (Juhani, Jack), but she's still better than
Mark Meer doing Male Shepard :-P

Technically speaking, I am  BELOW minimum system requirements yet it
runs quite well. I played on medium settings, I experienced some occasional
stuttering or audio lag during cutscenes, probably because the game was
still loading the area.
Speaking of loading times, they're a LOT shorter than in Origins, I had
barely enough time to read the short lore descriptions.

For those wondering, here's my system configuration:
OS: Windows XP
CPU: Pentium 4 3.4 Ghz
RAM: 3 GB
Video: NVIDIA GeForce 7900GS 256MB

I'm just hoping that you still can buy/collect different armors for you and your crew, but looking at the textures, it seems like they applied the mass effect system...where you could just customize your armor a bit...that would really be a massive turn-off....I always enjoyed having a wide variety of equipment...and the armors in DA:O were great imho...

And as for general armor design, especially darkspawn armor, whats with all sharp edges...felt like a squadron of F-117 nighthawks came at me xDD

The only way i'm going to buy this is if a friends says the story is amazing, other then that I see no reason in playing Dynasty Age 2

About the demo, I think it was great overall and I'm not going to write really in-depth about it.

My main problem with the UI though, is the level-up shortcuts on the character portraits. Half the time I select a character that has leveled up mid-game, I get to the level-up screen, since the shortcut takes up more than 1/4(?) of the char portrait. I liked it better with a button next to the icon.

Okey first off I gotta say Tracker your compareing a cinematic footage to an actual gameplay footage thats not completly fair.

Now my opinion on the Demo or in some aspects the game.

I've had no crashes or any problem with the Demo expect for the interogation scene with Varric were Cassandra got some weird ingoing forehead thingy going on. I overall like the new look on the game my only problem is with the fact that the darkspawn looked waaay undermade when compared to the human characters in game both playable and enemies.

Though this has nothing to do with the game I was a bit sad while playing when i found some new gear and I was like WOOOHOOO LOOOT  Posted Image and then I opened the inventory and it was like LOCKED (HAHAHA GOT YAH ALL EXCITED!)Posted Image.

I actually liked the new combat system but as mostly a mage player I was hopeing that they would have taken the magic mixing to a new level like Guild war 2 is were if you pop up a firewall and throw a ball of earth through it becomes a fireball or Magicka were if you mix two elements like fire/water you make steam.
It is good however to not make the mage as overpowered as it may have seemed in the first game but hey I like being overpowered and low health and long casting time that could be interupted kinda balanced it Posted Image. Also makeing it more so that all the classes working together will have a better effect is also a smart way of doing it.

While im a huge fan of the Mass Effect serie im actually a bit torn on the new wheel dialouge system as it cuts down the amount of choice you have atleast in my eyes. Haveing a voiced character is great but I for one like the old system more were you had more choices and could see everything that you said this made for some great ingame discussions like in Arcanum were you could convince the dwarf king in exile to return by talking or Planescape which had ALOT of talking and option. I understand that the wheel makes it easier but in a true rpg in my book it's more about the story and letting the player play his character in as many diffrent ways as possible instead of narrowing it down to Nice reply Neutral/Funny reply Bad/reply.

I could probably continue ranting for quite some while but untill the game comes out il not say to much more Posted Image

Before I start talking about my impressions I'm having a huge problem getting it working on the PC.
When you start up the demo for the first time it scans your system to make it so when you actually play the game it adapts to your system. However the progress bar has frozen at about 4 blocks in. If anybody has encountered this problem and has fixed could you please let me know how to fix it.

Anyway I ended up downloading it on the PS3 and these are my thoughts:

Like any Bioware game it has great voice acting and it made me smile when I heard some of the people speaking in a much stronger British, usually in most games they just assume us English people as either cockney or posh.
The art style and the character design (especially Flemeth) was very nice. What alot of people seem to be hating is the new combat system. I've yet to play it on the PC and I wasn't going to play with the pause and play mechanism on a pad. So really I can't put out my input on that until I've played it. One thing I don't understand though is why aren't they using the Mass Effect 3 engine? I mean Mass Effect 2 looks much better than Dragon Age 2, so why can't they use it if it's at their disposal? Overall it seems good, it certainly isn't bad but this is definitely one of my least favourite Bioware games. I just hope this doesn't affect Mass Effect 3 in a negative way. I'm considering pre-ordering it for PC but only if the PC demo is good.

There seems to be a lot of mixed feelings about this sequel we've all been waiting for. Which is not suprising considering that DA has gotten such a revamp. In the end EA will lose some of the old fans and gain some new ones.

Not really. Most people who complain in this thread are posting multiple times. The people who didn't enjoy it will seek out the forums and complain. The people who enjoyed it have nothing to say, so they will silently wait. The vast majority of people like the changes.

I can see this easily getting better scores than DA:O

This is such faulty logic and just a way to wave off criticism as whininess.

Played the demo on the PC, and I have to say I liked it.. Took me a few attempts to get through the entire demo without crashing, but the reading the support forum here helped.

Comparing the demo's graphics on medium to DAO's graphics on high isn't a fair comparison, but it does look like the graphics in DA2 are improved over DAO.

I played both a dual-wielding Rogue and a two-handed Warrior. I like the new combat animations. Can't really compare DA2 Warriors to DAO Warriors as I always play Rogues in DAO. Too soon to say if DA2 Rogues are better, but they are different and I like the differences. I think Rogues will remain my class of choice in DA2.

I liked starting off as the legend; it was a nice intro to the various class abilities. However, Cassandra breaking in every five minutes saying "I want the truth!" every five minutes will get old. Hopefully in the full game she won't interrupt as often.

I did not like the dialog wheel in Mass Effect. A lot of the time what Shepard said had little relation to the option I chose. That did not seem to be an issue in the DA2 demo. I like the icons on the dialog wheel. though I do wish we could see exactly what Hawke was going to say instead of just a general intent. And I miss the ability to pick dialog options using the number keys.

The interface looks to be more streamlined. I like how potions automatically appear on the quick bar (though there were times Hawke wouldn't drink a potion despite having plenty; I think getting attacked interrupted the potion drinking, which could get annoying). Wish the inventory wasn't locked down so we could have seen how that worked.

I like the talent trees, and I like the ability to improve upon our favorite talents.

March 8 and the full game can't come soon enough.

RAEG QUIT!!! What have you done Bioware? why kill a great game like Dragon Age Origins by releasing this piece of ****? what happened to all of the in depth role playing? what happened to my choice of race and back story? what happened to the almost true rpg gameplay? what happened to almost everything from DAO? i'm not against innovation, but everything i LOVED about DAO is gone from DA2! question, is this EA's fault? personally i'm all to eager to blame them. when EA get's their hands on something they generally do tend to twist and contort it until it no longer ratains it's former glory, but is, rather, a twisted shell of it's former self. when i saw EA had their hands in this, during the opening of the demo, i almost wept with frustration. i got 10 mins into the demo and just quit straight out, right in the middle of a battle. Why couldn't bioware just stick with the original concept from DAO? i give up. definitely not buying DA2. Rest in peace, Dragon Age, i hardly knew thee.

Demo doesn't work for me. I got a d3dx9_43.dll missing from my computer error.  I'm not going to preorder a game that won't even load the demo correctly.  I think I'll wait a year and see how many patches, bugs, and other garbage has to be fixed.

We got that as well. Simple fix... just google and download the .dll file, reboot, then download. It's a DirectX9 issue.

Modern design for interface and shells, «mass effect style» dialog box… Why you doing this with your incredible game? I can`t understand.

- totally unrealistic sword swinging animations (derp)

I must say it's better than slow-mo cumbersome DA:O combat. If only weapons were not that big, the speed would be reasonable and the actual animations... while not realistic, still better than those in DA:O.

I quite enjoyed the demo and there are only a few things that bothered me.

1. No mouse scrolling. I didn't see this in the options menu, so I guess its just not in there, but it would be nice to be able to move the screen with the mouse, instead of just the wasd keys or the right click.

2. Can't target AOE spells on enemies. I don't know if this was intentional, but it's something I used often in DA:O, and I would miss it :(

Mouse scrolling is the main thing though.

X360, loved the demo. Might want to re-introduce the feature where you could attack an enemy from any range and your character would run up until they actually were in range.

Playing as an archer or a mage is a bit of a pain as you often end up doing an idle animation while you're prone to enemy attacks.

Gabbs wrote...

I'm sorry but... you don't make any sense. At all. Forced to buy the potion? You can't buy ANYTHING in the demo!

Did you even play it or are you just here to screw with people?

On first impressions, I liked the combat system and artistic style of the first better. Even though they are very similar it feels more arcade-like rather than tactical in the demo.

Huge improvement is the main character talking like in Mass Effect. Adds a great deal to the game and your attachment to the character/his attachment to the others.

As always the main reason to play the game, THE STORY, seems to be in good shape. The demo's only revealing/intriguing story point was Flemeth's return but I don't doubt that the games story will be great!

you should tell your marketing people that the most jarring thing ever is to play a demo as an ass kickin' lady, only to be shown a trailer that insists the protagonist is a dudely dude dude dude. It seriously made me go, "Oh right, I'm the Wrong Hawke, thanks for reminding me, guys."

This.

I couldn't believe it when you mutated into Beard Freak at the end.

Hey guys I advice you not to download single .dll files since there is a big chance they will be fake and harmful to your computer. The way I fixed this, and if you've got the_43.dll missing im guessing youve got windows 7, is to download this thing off the microsoft site:

http://www.microsoft...&displaylang=en

The reason you're having this problem is because even though you can select directx 11 for the demo it still uses direct9 to run ( i dont know why) but your windows 7 doesnt have all the necessary direct9 components (since it came with direct11 built in). This program you are downloading ensures your direct9 is up to date without messing with your direct11 which means instant solution fo ryour missing _43 problem. I hope this helps

The game could be called Mass Effect. With the dialogue ring, the loss of the tactical view (even on PC), the ridiculously fast-paced combat system and the easiness of the Normal difficulty, it has nothing to do with a RPG anymore.

The graphics engine is well optimized, the game seems to run better than Origins with the same gaming rig. Maybe that the new art style of the game, sometimes poorer in details than the Origins "realistic" one, helps the performance as well.

I should let you know, Bioware, that the French version of the game is a COMPLETE DISASTER. Almost everyone is complaining about it on the French boards. The voiceover is terrible, with actors not even trying to believe in what they're saying; most voices are out of context, and some of them are even taken straight from Mass Effect 2 (!); and the game is crippled with translation errors. For instance, Kirkwall -which sould have been called "Murchapel", according to Origins- has lost its translation. Origins was renowned for its near-perfect localization quality in France. DA2 is almost the exact opposite of it, judging by this demo.

The archer has been redesigned almost from scratch, assuming that he was too weak and uninteresting in Origins. I disagree. The first couple of hours as an archer were indeed challenging in Origins, but it made it one of the most interesting and rewarding archetypes to build, precisely because of that. At the end of Origins, my archer was as powerful and as fun to play as every other character in the game; I even managed to finish the game on Nightmare difficulty with him.

Anyway, in DA2, the archer shoots as fast as a MG-42, deals massive damage, can have AoE right away from the first levels, and can activate any skill in almost no time. This makes the class so easy that it becomes boring. The saddest part is that I could say the same with any other class in this demo.

Fortunately, the characters are still well written and interesting. I can feel that even from the beginning, having a true family brings a real deepness to the background of Hawke. The hero is kind of charismatic, and the fact that he has his own voice has definately something to do in it.

The Normal mode is so ridiculously easy that you should never feel in danger, never drop below 75% of health -even if you press random buttons on your keyboard like a perfect idiot-, and you can finish the demo without ever managing you party or pausing the game to the menus. This is sad. Sad, and disappointing from you. I really hope that the Nightmare mode will be a decent challenge and enable friendly fire, as every other difficulty mode aside from the Easy one sould have done. Otherwise, the whole game will be a divine bless for parties full of casters, and a pure joke for anyone who have completed Origins on Normal -and superior- mode.

In conclusion : I feel pretty mixed and confused about this game. I will not cancel my pre-order, as disappointed as I am, because I feel that the Dragon Age that I loved is still there, somewhere. The background is still there, the characters are meaningful, the dialogues are still well written. I still want to know what follows in the story. But honestly, I can't rationally explain why.

Alrighty, I loved the demo and will for sure buy the game. The only thing that irked me was the combat. I hate, hate, HATE the cartoony insane jumps and flips the characters do even when basic attacking. It's like their armor and weapons have no weight at all. In DA:O you could tell that a character heaving up a 2handed sword was putting a lot of effort into lifting it to attack, but in DA2 a two handed sword might as well be made out of paper.
