Flemeths voice actor has gotten really really good at doing Flemeth. Also I really enjoy both Hawkes as well.

after years of downloading, ( torrent made it a jiffy thanks who ever made the torrent )

first of all who on bioware who said no to torrents fire them kick em and never let them get money ever again.

About the Demo in question.

The game seems promising i like the action i like the stuff u put in BUT

why is there no auto level on npcs in ur party ? like in dao

why does some npcs especially that girl who speaks to dwarf in the dialouges look so how to say it "steel faced" ?

while others look very good.

as for game play cool combat animations kinda miss the "death special kicks when u pew pew a npc" but ye other than that good game dont regret my pre order bio signature :)

haveing kate mulgrew and certain other voices in the game makes u feel right at home they actors do great things and sound good.

over and all good stuff.

few minor buggs popped up though. not sure if thats in the launch on 11th march but we will see :)

Played as a rogue on Xbox and at first was hating the hack and slash feel of the exaggerated section but as the demo went on it started feeling more tactical with harder battles. Really appreciated being able to dodge out of the way of attacks. But found some of the rogues animations cheesey and awkward. Also the move where you have to build up a chain of regular attacks to build its power felt kind of out of place and a bit too far removed from tactical combat.

One huge problem I had was the size of the text, I play on a 32 inch hdtv running at 1080p and I was struggling to read most of the text. Hopefully that will be fixed in the final game or via a patch.

Overall the demo hasn't convinced me to buy the game, it was enjoyable but I still don't really like any of the characters and don't feel I have any investment in the story outside of Flemeth.

Also I didn't care for Man Hawkes voice actor but haven't tried Woman Hawke yet.

My impressions for the PC version:

I was looking forward to bash BioWare for streamlining the combat mechanics, but the fast paced action is surprisingly good and fun. Frankly the normal difficulty is waaaay easier than the normal difficulty of DA:O so I didn't really pay attention to the tactics. Loved the new skills and tree layouts. I believe the full game will have many situations which will require me to use the tactics, especially on highest difficulty.

The game runs fine on my relatively new rig with maximum details. I tried to enable DX11 but it was super glitchy, maybe we're not even supposed to enable it... and I think some options are locked. And there were a few momentary pauses in the beginning of cutscenes or new enemy "waves".

This has been brought up many times, but it can't be stressed enough: the UI looks too bland, too sterile. Please add some flavor to it, or better, make it customizable.

And i thought my PC is the faulty one...As a plus, the heads appear blurry when they are against the sky. It makes my eyes hurt really bad...i feel like i am dizzy or something. I used to play DAO for hours without having such an issue, now i played 30 minutes and i can't even see the letter i type that well.

Edit: I have chose DX9 and things moved a little bit better, no blurry heads. The loading parts were still there and i've noticed that some models (Flemeth) have tiny white "holes" around the ears and other parts.

I miss opening chests. Call me silly, but I love the looting the best. Hopefully there will be things to steal in the full version? I loved the voices. In DA:O there was a little dysfunct when it came to my impression of the comment and the response that came out of the npc. With the little emotes next to the comment you can get a better feel for the response that will be given. Though I am wondering what the diamond means. Clarity? Rock hard? Pristine? I thoroughly love the rouge now who is a definite asset to the party. Awesome moves. I have yet to play the mage or the warrior, but I LOVED the rouge. I had no problem seeing the text, but I have a 52" HDTV. I can only hope that there is an option for bigger text in the full version. Fun demo, I understand that we are not able to mess with inventory though it made me sad. It was shorter than I was expecting. My fault. I have never participated in a demo run before. That being said, I cannot believe how many people are griping about things are clearly demo induced. Pre-selected talents and spells? Fast forwarding to locations further in the game? How else are you going to magically gain 3 levels? Over-all, I am still just as excited to play the real thing and am on my way to try out the mage.

I only very briefly played each class.

Mage: It's nice, not as exciting as I previously anticipated though. Should be very good down the stretch.

Warrior: I had no expectations going in, it turns out I instantly enjoyed the 2 handed warrior. 90% chance my first playthrough will be a 2 handed warrior. Combat is very enjoyable.

Rogue: Based on previous videos it looked kind of awkward with the kicks and glancing hits. In practice, it felt more awkward than I expected and less powerful than the other two classes. Maybe I was doing something wrong but my rogue was excessively kicking and it was very annoying. The backstab and evasion was very nice though.

Tell that to Micro$oft. The Devs said that you would not need Gold for the demo but it looks like M$ desided to force it. You can try contacting a Dev and se if they can fix it.

They can't fix that, not that there's anything to be fixed. It's simply microsofts policy. If you can't deal with that, tough I guess.

I got Gold so there's no problem for me. But when asked a Dev clearly said that all would be able to play the demo today and that you would not need to have gold.

When playing the demo with the settings set to High(DirectX 9), the demo would consistantly crash to desktop once I clicked Play on the Character Customization screen. Reducing the setting to Medium and disabling Anti-Aliasing seemed to allieviate this problem.

A bigger issue was that the demo was constantly experiencing 2-5 second loading pauses whenever a scene switch occured, be it pre-rendered video to engine, or even between engine scenes (Cassandra mentioning the Witch of the Wilds and then there's a 2-5 seconds pause with "Loading" displaying before Varric is able to reply, is just one example). Given how heavy this game is on dialogue I really hope this is something that's confined to the demo and not in the final code.

System specs:

i5-2500K
ASUS P8P67 EVO
GeForce GTX570
8GB RAM
Game installed on a 6Gbps WDC Caviar Black drive.
Windows7 64-bit
All DirectX and driver updates.

Downloaded it for the 360 a few hours ago, played it and loved every minute of it. I can't wait to play the full game.

I do have a stupid question however, how do you use health potions on your companions ( without switching controll away from Hawk )? I was fighting that giant Ogre and all the darkspawn and I noticed that all of my companions were very low on health, I tried to heal them but I couldn't figure out how so they all died and I was left to kill everything on my own which I managed to do on my first try, longest fight of my life ( well not really but it felt long enough ). I would like to figure out the contolls and how to use tactics before I pic another class and fight him again.

There's absolutely no emotional impact whatsoever, beyond "Oh crap, I guess the darkspawn are actually dangerous, even though we've been slaughtering them effortlessly by the dozens!"  At this early stage they may as well be nameless redshirts, and that is particularly disappointing for me.

One addendum to this.  I believe that, if they had really wanted to get across the message, "Things are getting dangerous, lives WILL be lost" in a way that would have been slightly more tolerable, they could have thrown the mother away instead.  Now I have nothing against Momma Hawke, but as an NPC instead of a potential team-mate her death would have made a bit more sense--as well as giving the three surviving siblings a shared tragedy to bond over.

Now, as for how they could have kept balance--I have an idea about that as well.  Carver or Bethany, depending on what class you are, could become withdrawn from you and the other after losing their mother.  Maybe the grief overwhelms them, maybe they just want to go off and do their own thing, whatever.  Put them into a non-combat role, but keep them in as a side character.  Maybe they try to lead a normal life instead of becoming a hero or some brave adventurer, and you can watch and help them grow.

I don't know.  I just think that there were plenty of feasible alternatives to simply killing them.

I just finished playing the demo 10 minutes ago. Here are my thoughts on it.

1. Graphics are alot better (as expected)

2. Flemeth was great.

3. Inventory was disabled, so I can`t comment much about that (too bad though)

4. The new dialogue wheel works like a charm.

5. Combat was...not sure. I felt like I was in a hurry. It reminded me of when i played Diablo for the first time. Clicking away as fast as I could. Trying to kill my enemies before they killed me. Dunno...It felt abit...stressfull. I probably just need to get used to it, I guess. Reminds me of something a Dev said some months ago. "Press a button, and something awsome happens". Well I pressed A about 200 times during the demo, and nothing really awsome happened.

6. Archery looks to have improved quite abit in DA2.

7. Rogues are now ninjas. Not too happy with that bit, but its a matter of taste.

Greatly looking forward to the full game. I am sure it will be just as good as DA:O.

He was mistaken then. Not that he has any power over Microsofts decisions anyway. Sorry.

I enjoyed the demo overall, what really stood out to me was the characters and voice acting in the beginning. The pacing was way too fast for my liking. There is no chance for me to build any sort of relationship with my family or Aveline and her husband. As a result, when people started dying it felt like the game was forcing me to care simply because it's supposed to be sad, but I didn't know these people so I was apathetic throughout most of it. Mother Hawke even started to get on my nerves, it seemed like she was mostly whining and blaming my Hawke for things.

The other thing that bugged me was the lack of dialogue choices compared to DAO, but that is to be expected with VO. Besides those two things I don't have any complaints. I enjoyed the gameplay and look forward to seeing how deep I can get into conversations with my party members.

Played and finished the Rogue Demo on Xbox- Really dont like the mashing of attack button. Why no autoattack? I hope its just the demo, but the opening events felt rushed. Hopefully, the pacing will be better in full version.

I've only played up to meeting Aveline but there's one thing that has already bugged me (well two including the "exaggrated beginning", which was redudant and silly) - Hawke has already talked twice without me being able to select a response.  Full control over character dialog is one of the things I love BioWare games for - this road you are walking down is most displeasing.

Just played it through as a rogue and I must say the rogue is better than in Origins. That said, as someone else stated out already. The area looks a bit empty like something is missing. However, I'm sure this will change once you get more into the game.

The music was really great. Has a nice touch to it. Especially after [beep] dies.

The graphics do not concern me. It looks good enough as it is, but damn... You could've done a better job with the darkspawn and in particular, the ogre. They look more like clay-dolls than terrifying creatures.

Allow me to demonstrate:

A bigger issue was that the demo was constantly experiencing 2-5 second
loading pauses whenever a scene switch occured, be it pre-rendered video
to engine, or even between engine scenes (Cassandra mentioning the

I have this aswell. It doesn't happen all the time, but randomly, and it gets annoying after seeing it for the third time.

Yeah, autoattack is really necessary on consoles. I found my hands getting sore without it after 2-3 playthroughs of the demo.

--Demo Spoilers, obviously--

I'm displeased with Hawke's reaction to the death of his sibling.  I know it's the heat of the moment and everything, but he didn't even seem particularly phased by it at the time.  In fact, he shows more emotion when killing Aveline's husband than he does for Bethany or Carver!   I do hope that we'll actually get a chance to mourn them in some fashion, because this is one thing that just should not be glossed over like the obvious existential issues that should have arisen from Shepard's resurrection--but I digress.

As for the death of the brother/sister, I feel as though this is a perfect example of subpar writing at work.  Now, I understand the need for balance.  Having two mages in your party right off the bat, only to get a third one later would probably end up breaking the game down the line.  However, I feel as though killing the opposite-class sibling off was a poor decision.

For starters--why should we care?  We're barely past the opening sequence!  Hawke has known them all his life, but WE as the players do not.  Throwing them to the proverbial (and in this case literal) ogre so early on in the story does absolutely nothing for us.

I agree. Hawkes reaction to the death was disapointing.

Damn. I am replaying right now and I skiped the Dragon-Bull**** scene because I was in the middle of a battle mashinbg buttons.<_<

Hello, finished the demo just now and ...
1. Hate the pauses between fighting and story sequences. It lasted 1-2 seconds in the demo but it was very annoying. Loading msg everywhere ... also I don't like being interrupted every other fight by some story sequence. Do it after I finish fighting.
2. After killing the ogre you go from dialog with Flemeth to dialog with the seeker to drawn explanation of going to the city ... seemed like an overkill. Pick one way to tell the story and stick with it.
3. Boobs of the gipsy girl are way too big. Good luck being a rogue with those.
4. The tactical style of gameplay was a bit chlunky. Placing fireball on the ground was sometimes a pain and for switching between characters I actually started to use f1-f4 keys, because left click did all sort of unwanted things.

Xbox 360 Version:

Hated that I had to mash "A" for combat. I really hope there's an option to set it like Origins (potential dealbreaker for me.)

Combat felt a little too "Hack N' Slash" for my taste.  I was only able to do a deathblow on the Ogre, I hope those are back for regular enemies as well.

Really missed the auto-level up for teammates. Also being able to have regular convo's with them in the field, but maybe it's just like that because its a demo.

Like the new art direction, graphics are better than DAO (but that's not saying much on consoles)

One major thing that irked me was the frame narative: I don't like how you are just jumping around from important decisions/time frames. I felt like the cut scene talking about sailing to Kirkwall was a cop-out in regards to how it was a moving painting and not an actual cut-scene.

Soooo glad that there is a voice actor for the main character now, really helps me with immersion.

Will have to wait and see if we can disable button mashing. Looking more positive than negative on a purchase though. It still needs work (even though its gone Gold already)

Excellent product so far with only minor concerns.

Combat is amazingly fun. I tried the male rogue fresh off of beating Awakening with the same class and I really enjoyed it. Some of the animations particularly when an enemy is walking away while you attack are really awkward. I love the style, makes low level game play exciting.

The video would lag at times with conversations being interrupted. I hope this is a result of the demo. I'd prefer the dialog wheel if you could still select options using the number pad as well. I found it hard to understand when my rogue was backstabbing rather than simply attacking an enemy based on angles. I'd imagine this will become clear with more time spent on the game. Finally, the tactics bar is too limited in the number of options. I see no reason why 20-30 tactics could not be made available for players to custom if they so choose. All and all, minor gripes. I very much look forward to my preorder!
