Just finished the PC demo and overall thoughts were 'Meh'
At first, I was kinda PO'ed at the fact that character customization was locked for the demo...short for demonstration, you know, show of the elements of your product that you're proud of? You gave us a character customizer before the first one to play around with, why not with DA2? Are you hiding something? Are you afraid that since you did nothing to improve upon it that we would get upset? Well, kinda upset that it's not included at all.
Locked inventory - Again, more locking of features that need to be demonstrated. I really wanted to explore the UI that the game was using. Not being able to fool around with the equipment left me disgruntled.
Fast paced click click click..click click D2 fatigue - Hack n slash clicker came to mind when combat started. I hear that the option for auto attack will be enabled in the full version...so why the hell would it not be available in the demo? Here I am, trying to assign attack orders to my characters, and they are standing their cause I have to keep clicking for them to swing their sword. The only thing I can see they would do this is to make it more involving for someone with a controller. While button mashing may be engaging for some, it's not quite for me, especially for a tactical RPG(Which I seem to be wrong about now, now an action rpg)
Dialog wheel, the ME2...effect - During my first playthrough with DA:O, I found myself pausing reading the dialog choices very carefully, because none had any real clear cut answer. They were always more shades of grey. When you implement this dialog wheel, as seen in ME2, you basically have A,B, C...side questions. A = picard answer, B, neutral answer, C - evil answer. Personally, it ends up disconnecting me from conversations. Now, I understand we only experienced a snippet of a game, but remember, a demo is made for a reason, to impress customers.
Other things -
The transition between the family and that tavern seen was very awkward. Was that just shortened and cut out for the demo? Who is this woman? Why am I helping her again? Very confused
The bottom line is, I love Bioware, they make rich worlds and stories. I won't judge the whole game from such a small portion. I'll still support the devs for all their hard work and buy the game. However i'm still left with an empty feeling. The rpg that required me to think and play carefully no longer exists. While that's a welcome change for a lot of people, for me, it makes me a very sad panda.
TL;DR
Dragon Age 2 is different from Dragon Age 1

Damn. I am replaying right now and I skiped the Dragon-Bull**** scene because I was in the middle of a battle mashinbg buttons.<_<
Now I'm not going to go ahead and assume that we won't be able to ellicit more of a reaction out of Hawke after the whole thing with Flemeth and getting everyone out of harm's way, but the way the death was carried out just rubbed me the wrong way. It wasn't poignant, it wasn't distressing, it wasn't meaningful--it just was.
Now you could argue that that is exactly what Bioware was going for her--making some lofty statement about how death comes suddenly and often without warning--but that doesn't make the scene any less bland.

Having played the demo a couple of times now, one thing I've been a bit... skeptic of, is how the sibling's death is handled by Hawke and the other twin. While I get the fact that they can be surrounded by darkspawn at any given moment, having your sibling smashed to death by an Ogre should at least get something more than a "Oh well. They're with father now. Let's go.".
Another thing is the font size. The text during load screens especially, seems to be designed for people with their eyes touching the screen. It requires perpetual squinting, or, in my case, dragging the couch further towards the television in an attempt to discover what the game is trying to tell you.
Now. Issues aside, I cannot for the life of me remember the last time I've been squeeling as much as I did this day (...well. Trailers and dev journals aside). Trying out the redesigned rogue and mage talents earned frequent "Holy crap! Did you see that? Did you see that!? Ohohohoo, I rock!"s. I honestly can't wait to try it out for real.
One of the most fun moments was during Varric's 'Bull****'-opener. Rogue Hawke was happily doing somersaults around dear sir Ogre, slashing him as she went, while darkspawn were flying everywhere around her as off-screen Bethany wrecked havoc upon the battlefield.
Well played indeed.

I tend to agree with posters commenting on the lack of context or empathy when it comes to Hawke's family. Part of this can be explained away by the in medias res nature of the opening sequence: Everybody is on the run, the darkspawn nipping at their heels, there's little time for the practicalities of mourning. In game, I get that. But what DAO did very right (specifically with the human noble background) is that you had time to learn about your family, get to know them, and bond a bit before the feces struck the windmill. Here you're told that these people are Hawke's (your) family, but there's no real sense of connection or attachment.
I think it may have been interesting to depict Hawke heroically protecting her family, single-handedly fighting off hordes of darkspawn in the overpowered "legend" opening. Then, during the "true" story, having family members die shows that heroics like that aren't necessarily realistic and the heroes themselves don't always get the happy ending.
Still, it's a minor issue in the scheme of things. And I wonder if there are interactions and sequences we are missing in this demo that may expand upon the Hawke clan's relationships further.

I'm on the Xbox 360
I had some slight tactic problems when you were assigning or selecting them. It was a little bit so and so moving between the different pre-defined tactics. I also had a bug where I had Hawke as a Mage and when I was selecting tactics for him he got the names for the Warrior ones and no skills showed up. It did however work itself out when I closed and re-opened the tactics menu again.

My thoughts on the demo. Played 360.
Graphics are very much improved, acceptable I feel, not really on Mass Effects level, but Mass Effect has a very high level. So it doesn't bother me in the least.
Combat: Combat is much improved. It feels more dire, faster, intense. I enjoy mashing the A button to attack, but it might be better if timing your presses of A correctly would give you a slightly stronger attack than if you mash. Regaurdless much improved. Warrior is very much fun, but what struck me the most was how improved mage was. It was a complete bore to me in Origins to play mage, what with the awkward positioning with the staff and the slow attack speed. But now in DAII mage actually seems to command power, I can attack fast and hard and my spells are very fast and responsive. I didn't think the demo would change my mind about the mage class, but it did. While I probably wont be one for my playthrough, I will be using my party members to enjoy it, IE Bethany and Merrill.
Cutscenes were a little bumpy here and there, but I presume that's because its a demo. Even if it's in the game though it wont bother me too incredibly much.
Voice Acting is much better than Origins. I hear people here complaining about it but I don't really know what about. Male Hawke is great, female Hawke is great, and Flemeth is utterly fantastic.
My one complaint is my party is still jogging behind me as I walk through town. This seemed to be fixed when the developers played through it, so I presume that some script is missing in the demo so they only can run behind me. At least I hope so, the jogging and awkwardly stopping behind me is bloody distracting.
Animations seem slightly odd too, but I mostly notice this with sword and shield. It was pretty fluid in Origins but in DAII it actually seems less so. The shield just sort of appears on your back and the sword arranges itself.
Overall a great demo I thought, I can't wait for the next game, and I was really hoping to see something of Merrill but oh well.

Just finished! Not going to read the entire thread, but I only had one real problem in my playthrough, and that was with the Tactics interface.
After the demo transitioned to the Fools Rush In part, I went to set up tactics for my party, and had real trouble selecting the different set-up options. I'm playing on the PC version, and I found that I couldn't highlight the different parts (clicking on the bar to open up the Self, Ally, Enemy selection; clicking on that part to open up the >100%, >60%, etc.; clicking on the abilities section to choose what tactic to use) very easily. I'd have to run my mouse over them repeatedly, and it would only highlight the bar in yellow when I was near the very edge.
I'm terrible at explaining this, but it was very annoying and made setting up custom tactics slow, tedious and frustrating. I was playing a female rogue, with all video settings the highest they would go and no change to the mouse sensitivity. I'm using a Razer Naga mouse and all my software is up to date.
Otherwise I enjoyed the demo very much! Going back to try a mage now. :3

Sooo..
Overall I enjoyed the demo. It does feel like Dragon Age which is all that I need to buy the game. But there was one thing that got my attention: attack speed. Might be a matter of getting used to, but it did feel strange when the two-handed warrior Hawke was chopping darkspawn a lot faster than my Dual-Weapon warrior in Origins. I mean it is an improvement from the Origins' slow two-handed-fighting but to be frank, I felt like a Jedi swinging a light saber. By the way the game was loading at random times on my machine aswell.
Edit: I was playing on PC.
Also, I tried the mage and combat felt so much better than in Origins! I might choose this class over the warrior. Gotta try the rogue though.

Is anyone else having trouble with confirming abilities on the PC version?

Demo feedback (PC version)
*The audio volume of the demo seem rather faint. Both in the menu and ingame, during fighting and conversations, the audio is rather faint. However with the intermission screens (where Varric speaks), the audio levels seem normal (compared to the DA:O).
*Sometimes when a horde of darkspawn grunts charges the player from afar, the animations seem really silly. Looks almost like a Charlie Chaplin movie, if you get my meaning. Just looks like a lot of animation frames are being skipped.
*The demo crashed after completing the demo, when pressing the Credits button.
*No current target/sticky target? This is really annoying, just saying.
*The new abilities screen looks like a huge mess to me. I'm sorry, but I really don't understand why the old abilities screen was scrapped. Might not have looked so fancy, but it was extremely functional and worked well.

I won't go into details, too lazy for that and it's been pointed out numerous times now. But I did not really like the demo. In fact, I think it really got be disappointed, because until today I was one of the few that this game would turn out great....I will give the game a chance though....when it gets cheaper.

Ok..just finished the Xbox demo and I enjoyed it a lot. The only problem was to have to continually hit A to attack...after a while my fingers started to hurt from it. So is there a setting for continuous attack without having to continuously having to hit A?

My feedback:
I liked it alot. Allready the demo has replay value, just imagine the game.
I didn't hear anything new about the story in addition of what i allready knew, wish is a good thing.
The graphics were medium done. But I gues they will be at their best in the full game.
The amount of dialouge was good. I really had the feeling about what to expect in full game (exept the choices ofc).
The new thing I have learned is that kasandra (casandra) seemed not that bad-ass in comparisson to the trailers.
negative point: lots of loading times in the cutscenes and a bit of frame rate drops. But I am sure that won't happen in the full game.
I really liked the demo, now the waiting begins

I've played the demo as a dual wielding female rogue on the PC and I've got to say I really liked it. Changing weapon style by corpse was a pain though, I'd rather switch to bows on the fly if the situation warrants it instead of being forced to stick to one style. Still, the classes are far more interesting than before, Kirkwall looks stunning (I really like the new graphics) and Flemeth in particular was awesome. However, I really don't like the fighting animations. They're overdone. I know the first part was overdone on purpose but still the rest was way too much as well. A rogue leaping around like that continuously just doesn't seem human. The fireballs are annoying as they obscure the view of the battlefield. I'm also not quite sure about the radial dialogue menu, but maybe it will grow on me when I play the full game. Still, I think I would have preferred the old style dialogues.
ps. tactics seem to be bugged, it's very difficult to clear a tactic you've set up, for some reason it won't highlight or select any of the available options in the list once you've picked something and want to redo it.

I've been playing the demo since about 1:30 pm eastern time, and so far I love it!
I have to admit though-- I just can't beat the 2nd Ogre that you face-off against.... I can get him down to about half health... But then I just get totally swarmed and overwhelmed. and no matter how I try to stragegize and allocate the 6 health poltices that I have I always get a whoopin'
Can anyone help with this? Any ideas, hints, tips, tricks?
THanks... and so far from what I"ve seen I'm loving all the changes-- Great work Bioware, you guys ROCK!!!
