I played this on PC. Excellent demo, really hyped for the full game.

The fighting is just awesome, it's a lot more fun than in Origins. I always liked the ME style dialogue, and having a voiced character is just some much better. This is a huge step in the right direction, just like ME1 to ME2. A pity you couldn't fool around with the customization/inventory etc. I know it's just a demo, but creating a new face in advance would have been fun. Ah well.

Characters are great, especially Flemeth. But that's expected in a Bioware game.

The only negative points I have are, well, the loading times between scenes and fighting, that never happened in Origins. I'm going to assume it's just because it's a demo, otherwise it would suck. Really interrupts the flow of the game. I rather have long load times than a million 3 second ones. And I can't zoom out as much as I'd have liked, but that's a minor issue.

Overall: good demo, well worth the wait, wish it was the 11th already.

Four things I hate already:

- Can't zoom out enough, feels like being in some sort of prison compared to the first game.
(also the camera doesn't feel as smooth as the first, that's probably just me though)
- Horrible performance and horrible walking animation
- What's with the horrible GUI this game got : has the gui design team
not got any human-computer interaction education at all? I mean, just
look at the tactics page ~~
- *The wheel' for conversations just doesn't feel as good as a list.

This demo was a huge letdown for me :( I really hope the final game has better polish regarding the performance.

(turning the dx11 off made the camera movement much smoother)

i played the console demo and the hack n slash with the rogue was crappy.

i disliked hawke and the party's voice overs and seemed very choppy from a console game.

ill be able to say more when the pc version finish's downloading, and the game needs more emotion. the person who dies, it does not phase hawke at all what so ever.

Okay, there was a serious lack of good acting in the family interactions. I felt like they didn't even know each other, let alone care. As others mentioned, this problem really sticks out when the sibling dies. I mean, the writing in the responses wasn't that great, but, at the very least, the actress who does Hawke could have worked through it. And then there are the siblings. Both of their reads of the lines, Bethany's in particular, are completely detatched. I just don't care about them. At all. And I'm a pretty empathetic person. I will probably go Mage first, based largely on the fact that I don't want to deal with Bethany.

Nevertheless, the others were good! Aveline is a badass with emotional depth (take note, Hawke - being sad over the loss of a loved one is fine). Varric is really... alive. His delivery throughout a scene follows a strong arc. Isabella is a little less over-the-top-sultry than I was expecting but I don't really mind. It's good to see she isn't just goin to be 'the hot one'. And Flemeth. I don't need to say anything there. But did she really have to mention Morrigan? I want some Claudia Black in this game!

But, I mean, outside of some of the acting, I had a lot of fun with this demo. I can't wait for the full game.

I thought the Darkspawn were extremely overpowered for just being on normal difficulty. Either that or our characters were extremely underpowered, including the warrior. I thought Mage was beast till I got to the Ogre part. Besides that, I thought the Demo derserves an A. I actually cried a bit when my brother died, maybe I'm just to emotional, ha.

To everyone: I don't know exactly when it's unlocked, but there is no notification screen for Hayder's Razor. If you've played the demo, check your Registered Game Promotions here on the site, and you should see Hayder's Razor listed.

I'd also recommend Lady Hawke over M. Hawke. Having Commander Shepard in a Dragon Age game just doesn't feel right...

Played the demo on the 360, first as a Rogue and Im now gearing up for a mage playthrough.

Combat: Fast paced, fluid, invigorating. My only issue is that sometimes as Im sitting there frantically tapping the A button to kill the horde of paintball masked planet of the apes stand ins that are apparently Hurlocks, it almost seems like my character is moving too fast. And Im not even talking about the exaggerated sequence. All of the characters are swinging their swords like their arms are machines and their weapons are tiny feather light pieces of aluminum shaped into weapons. It especially annoyed me with Carver and his giant two handed sword being swung about like a pool noodle.

Dialogue and Voice: Voice Acting was all phenomenal, the dialogue we could access was extremely well written, and the radial dialogue menu is interesting for me (I myself having never played ME am trying to adjust but it's not *bad*) I am however concerned that it seems like dialogue with my companions is again going to depend on being near a tree, or a statue, or a painting, or a keg. My favorite part about Origins was that I could be walking towards Redcliffe and having a conversation with Sten about Qunari philosophy. It was interesting, it developed the characters more, it immersed me into the story, and I didnt have to sit down with a map of Ferelden going "Ok, if I go here and hit A I can have this conversation so I can raise approval and get personal quests!" like I did in Awakening.

The Death: Well... wow, I dunno. Maybe it's because we had about two or three lines of him talking, but Carvers death and the drama of the moment did absolutely nothing for me. The only reason I knew he was my brother (note the lack of epic beard) was the fact that our Mother (who sounds suspiciously like another Mother that we all knew and loved) addressed him as such. I hate to agree with someone posting earlier in the forum, but he *was* a red shirt. At least with Fergus and the Couslands, or Trian/Bhelen, or Rica I could converse with them before the dire fate happened and learn something about the character. In this the drama seemed forced and I just couldnt accept being sad.

Visuals and music: I love the new art style, and the music was phenomenal. The feel of the Wastelands outside of Lothering really hit me as what a Blighted land should look like. The world was going to hell at the time, it makes sense that the area the Darkspawn bubbled up from resembled it.

My biggest gripes: The abilities screen. Cluttered, not very functional, and the selector went in circles four or five times before it would let me select the option I wanted. Attack speed, again it's a greatsword, not a pool noodle. Dialogue and the lack of being able to engage in it .

My biggest pluses: The new art style, voice acting, music, and some new skills (firestorm looks really cool)

Overall: I'm very glad that I bought the signature edition and have no plans to cancel my order or swear off Bioware as a studio for trying something new, even if Im not a fan of some of it.

I'm ready for another Dragon Age.

Played the PC version. Muuuuuch smoother than DAO overall. The fixed camera perspective is a bit annoying, but I'll probably get used to it. My only complaint is that the loading for the cutscenes is a bit... weird. The loading times themselves are fine, but the transition sometimes feels like the scene was cut in half.

I loved every second of the demo. The new art style, the voice acting, story and characters, the soundtrack, the new gameplay. It all worked for me. It's going to be a blast just like DAO for me. Job well done Bioware.

also, the ai for the party's members can blow at times, 2 of my party members just stood around all the time getting attacked and not helping me and the mage. i wondered why it seemed so hard at first then i noticed it was 2 on 20.

 A few comments, and SPOILERS!

First, can you save it?  If not, for god's sake why not!  I''ve just met Isabella and have quit since I have to get back to work.  If I have to start at the beginning and play through to the end with no save I can't imagine I'll be finishing it any time soon.  By the way if anyone can tell me how long the entire demo is I'd really appreciate it.

Other thoughts - the VA is OK, but some of the lines seem a bit flat.  The scene where Aveline puts her husband out of his misery suffered horribly from the limitations of the graphics engine.  She apparently pushed a dagger straight through his chestplate with no resistance at all, leaving no hole or wound, after which the dagger disappeared.  This may sound picky but it really destroyed any emotion in the scene.

I realize its a demo but I thought there were way too many cutscenes and I felt I wasn't really doing much as a player.  In fact it seemed more like a demo of Bioware's new story rather than a demo of Bioware's new game.  To be fair I don't think I've done enough playing to really make a judgement on the combat but right now I feel a bit under-whelmed.

And finally, I realize its a done deal but I really wish you would get rid of the conversation wheel.  As a UI widget it is no better than a rectangle with lines of text, and I would much rather see my character's lines instead of the vague hint and a funky emotion icon.  I didn't like it in Mass Effect, and even with the emoticon I suspect I won't like it in DA2 either.

Highly underwhelming.

I loved Origins to death, but what the bleeping shizz is this atrocious abomination? The animations were choppy, and even the cutscenes weren't fluid. It looks downright awful as well, and to top it off it runs like a sack of **** on even a high-end computer.

I had higher hopes for this.

Alright. I'm gonna put in my two cents in the hopes that it will prove useful :)

First of all, I am going have to agree with Mr. Laidlaw. The games does feel like Origins, while at the same time feels like something else entirely. It just has that Dragon Age presence to it, very hard to describe.

The sounds, voice acting and soundtrack are beautiful. No complaints there whatsoever. It most definately sounds better while wearing a headset, and you can even make out the enemy's reaction as they die. Kudos for that.

As for the combat, I have mixed oppinions here. First of all, the camera is a bit disappointing. You can't zoom out very much, and I have a feeling that this will have a bad impact on those who wish to complete the game at higher difficulties. It's very hard to get a tactical sense of the area when you are so close to your character.
The character's response to an action isn't immediate (at least it wasn't for me). Around half a second I think. I'm not complaining however, because this actually didn't make it feel like an action game. It still spelt RPG for me. Most of the time I was pausing out of reflex, and by the end, it was very satisfying.

The characters and story so far, are incredible. Flemeth gave me chills. The first real decission with Wesley, I thought it was a bit extreme for the first few minutes of the game, and I will say this: if the later ones are just as mindblowing, or even more, this will turn out to be a great story.

As for the graphics, people might flame me for saying this... but...

I love them :innocent:

As for bugs, I only had one: regarding the graphics on Isabela. To quote Legion... "There was a hole" :D Yea, you could see through her at a point, but that only happened after the final boss. May have been my computer, but I'll run a few more tests later.

Overall, the game itself is engaging and fun. I look forward to the full product.

I have just finished my 2nd playthrough on Xbox 360. I played as a dual-wielding Female rogue and used sarcastic (middle) dialog option only... and all I can say that I'm in love with it. Playing as a rogue with a controller feels like a real action RPG game but at the same time you're not some kind of a god. I had some tough moments when I was about to lie down till the combat is finished, i.e. to die.

Anyway, now I'm confused and I'm not sure which class I want for my 1st playthrough. I'm even afraid to try out the mage, archer rogue and 2-hand-wielding warrior :-D

What a dumbed down pile of crap.

Anyone who can enjoy this demo doesnt have enough brain cells in their head.

This game doesnt even deserve to be called an RPG, it doesnt even compare to the first Dragon Age, or to Baldur's Gate.

I like the overall changes done to the classes, and skills, but the AI is really lacking. (I played on the PC),

There were moments where the NPCs were just standing around and not participating in combat if I wasn't micromanaging them frequently. Not to mention spamming skills that miss the enemy completely, even when there were no enemies near them.

I hope the AI won't be like this when the game comes out.

There were some awkward moments in the dialogue, lines
weren't delivered well and came across flat.

I played the PC version and loved every minute of it. A few problems that I have are completely story related though. Like for example I thought that Carver/Bethany dying wasnt nearly as emotional as Wesley dying and I think it should have been the other way around, since you know, Wesley is that random kindofa jerk templar and Carver/Bethany your bro/sis but oh well.

Anyway, I'm really hyped now and cant wait for the full game.

I got up fairly early this morning and have played through each class with both genderson the 360. The mage was great when you played the higher level but was challenging when you played the lower level. i greatly liked that, it made me feel what was possible. In addition, I never played as a warrior in DA:O, but i really liked it in the demo. I love lady Hawke's voice, but i will most likely play as a man (male voice is nice too). On another note I love the art style as others do, and i happen to be fond of the dialog system. i will most likely play a mage, which is saying something because i usually go for a rogue. My major problem with the demo is that it got me really excited and there is still 2 weeks left to wait for the game.

played the demo on both xbox and pc now and I must say that combat-wise (not sure that a real word) it feels like two different games..

xbox version feels more action and pc more control, personally I prefer the pc combat, however the 1-2 seconds of loading in the cutscenes in the pc version are annoying (hopefully som tinkering with graphic settings can fix this)

male hawke has some serious authority in his angry voice
