I have played the PC Demo and the PS3 demo in the last few hours.  I dont have a 360 otherwise would have done all three ;)

Both are very good indeed and if i had not gone for the early pre-order bonus with the PC version I would seriously consider the PS3 version as it controls much better than I thought it would.  I will however stick with the PC version.

One oddity when comparing the two.   In the PC version there is a cinimatic where the Champ finishes off the Ogre with a sword to the eye.  In the PS3 version this cinimatic does not occur.  Is there a gore difference between the two?

Either way very impressive on the PC & PS3

Well done BioWare and EA

As someone who has played, and loved, every game Bioware has ever made, it's impossible to convey just how much I hate this demo. DA2 is the final nail in the coffin for deep PC rpgs, and in an amazing twist the company that got me hooked on them in the first place is who sealed the deal.

Shame on you Bioware, for pandering to the ADHD crowd and turning the PC rpg into a joke. I realize consoles make more money, but did you have to totally abandon your loyal PC base? Besides the graphics, everything about DA2 is a step back from the first game.

Once upon a time you guys made deep, interesting rpgs that were worthy of the Bioware name. It seems those days are gone and this action based drivel is all we can expect from you guys.

Oh, how the mighty have fallen.

They were right to use a demo, though it's worrying just how little understanding a sect of forum posters on here have of what a demo (demonstration of said product) is really meant to entail,

when was the last time you played a demo and the retail game turned out to be so much better? was it before or after WW2?

Camera is almost killing me on the PC. Its auto-center behaviour is aggravating beyond belief, but even worse, why can't I position the camera by mousing to the edges of the screen? It should at least be an option (unless it is, and I've missed it somehow, in which case I'll look like an idiot).

Loved it.

-Played as a mage, combat feels great to me. Can't wait to get access to more abilities.

-The game looks fantastic on my 27" iMac. Looking forward to cranking the graphics up in the full version. Digging the music too.

-The 2D art in the cutscenes is beautiful.

-Voice acting is great, male Hawke in particular. VERY happy with this choice, makes me realize how terrible that silent protagonist business was.

-Cassandra and Flemeth (Kate Mulgrew is worth every penny, yum) are incredibly awesome.

Few concerns though.

-Not impressed with how the story of the escape from Lothering was told. Definitely willing to give the writers the benefit of the doubt and that it will all make sense in the end but.. hmm.

-Rogue animations do not look good to me. At all.

-Warrior/rogue combat does seem a tad over the top. Too fast, weapons too big. Combat needed to be livened up from Origins but maybe went too far.

Overall though, VERY excited. Great job guys. :)

Already downloaded (PS3), but I didn't have yet time to play... I will probably play after my work.. In 1-2 hours. :)

Reading the messages from this thread, I noticed some mixed feelings, a lot of people liked, but a lot disliked, I also noticed that mostly of people from other forums are bashing the game, and bashing hard... I hope that I don't feel disappointed.

Negative

1.)Targeting on the Xbox is STILL AWFUL!  I want to play tactically but this still makes it a complete pain.  When I need to spend thirty seconds making sure my pommel strike hits the ogre and not hurlock #34 with 2% health remaining it takes away the incentive to pause and play.  This is a shame as being able to strategize is one of the best aspects of the game imo.  I am very disappointed targeting on Xbox was not improved.

It's got the same problem on the PS3 to,  In fact I think the targeting system is even worse in this one, because now I got all these cluterd stat bars, and I have to double check to see which one I'm targeting.

Played the PC Demo a little last night and while I didn't absolutely hate it, I wasn't overly impressed either.

1.  The increased speed of combat I didn't like.   Two handed sword shouldn't be moving that fast.  Could be fixed with a speed slider maybe.  Slow it down a bit if desired.

2.  Graphics in general are a huge improvement in quality but I prefer the original Hurlocks, larger lumbering warriors, not sleek ninja fighters.  I like the new ones, but would rather they have been a new mob not replacement.

3.  I prefered the old talent tree choices and layout, but at least its here still.  Played rogue in origins but was going to do warrior this time.  Will probably do rogue again or maybe mage, didnt like warrior paths.

4.  Weapons, at least two handed sword too big, this isn't Final Fantasy.

5.  I see this is as hybrid cross between Diablo and Origins.  Not really a bad thing, but I was expecting something more traditional like Origins which I enjoyed but wasn't amazed by.  I loved Diablo, just not what I was wanting to play, I love inventory management, stat management and slower gameplay.

6.  Not related to DA2 but I wasn't a fan of the Mass Effect 2.  I prefered the equipment management and decisions in the first one.  Yes I know, Im the only person in the world that felt that way.

But end the end this is a demo, not the final retail product and I have played lots of demos which I hated and ended up loving the final game so I am not rushing to judgement.

Yeah, the swords were too large and the combat resembles japanese games. I was expecting something more occidental, more brute like and less samurai.

I liked it. More than Dragon Age: Origins, really. I have played pretty much every Bioware game since Baldur's Gate, and I always thought that the battles in DA:O felt too drawn out and repetetive. I often found myself watching my warrior-warden enthusiastically
flail away at an opponent with his greatsword, but only chipping away
a mere millimeter of health with each blow. This did happen on occasion in the demo as well, but not nearly as often, and the new combat moves more than made up for it.

I also prefer the more personal story that Dragon Age II seems to be going for. The main character actually having a family (one that isn't completely killed off within half an hour) has great potential as far as storytelling goes, I think. I'm looking forward to seeing where it leads.

Still, on that note, I do wish there was some way to keep Bethany alive, even with Hawke being a mage. Oh, I can understand the rationale behind removing the sibling that most closely resembles Hawke, to make him/her more unique, but I was rather looking forward to seeing the story revolve around two apostate siblings.

It's a good demo, and should be a good game. It's nowhere near the dissapointment that I thought it may be.

I've gone from a not buy, to a buy when released by playing the demo.

I played the demo earlier this morning as a warrior and a bug made my two handed sword disappear... ha! It was hilarious. It was as if I finally got to play my monk class I've been hoping Bioware would include... a very heavily armored monk, but still. :P

Ok wow, I think I made this account a while ago but strangely have never posted anything here.

Suppose it's about time to correct that...

First off, Bioware, you guys are awesome. There isn't another developer out there that constantly makes the kind of quality games that advance the industry in terms of player immersion. I'm only 19, so I can't claim to have been with you as long as many others around here but everything I have played, be it KOTOR, Jade Empire, Mass Effect, and Dragon Age, it's always fantastic.

With that said, I've obviously had high expectations for DA2. After playing the demo yesterday (3 times in a row, using each class once) I can honestly say you haven't disappointed.

I've seen a lot of people here complain about the combat, saying it's too fast, too much hack n' slash, too easy, etc....

I actually love the combat, I feel like the pace makes the whole experience a lot smoother and more engaging. All the strategic elements I loved about Origins are still there, that said, you simply didn't really need to be that strategic in the demo as the difficulty was set to normal. Bioware has stated repeatedly that normal is intended for people who want to play through the game controling mainly/only their Hawke, rather than having to worry about controling everyone. It seems like so many people here are completely forgeting that, on higher difficulty those strategic elements we all love WILL be just as important as in Origins.

As for the hack n' slashing....well, for one, you can switch it back to auto attack in the full game if you so choose. And personally, at least for the console version of the game (which I play) I may actually prefer it (haven't completely decided yet) to the old system, there were plenty of times playing Origins where I would get annoyed about constantly just watching things play out. Also if you noticed, during the sections of the demo in which your character has access to more abilities to make use of, the button mashing becomes basically non-existent (at least the way I played).

Ok, so combat, satisfied with it.

Visuals, major step up from Origins. Could still be better but still good, and I personally didn't experience any glitches, bugs, crashes, or other issues so I'm happy.

Voice acting...from what I could tell it was no differen't from Origins, which is to say better than most other games, but not as good as in Mass Effect (though there are of course some characters in any game that stick out as particularly good or bad in terms of the voice acting, Flemeth for example is awesome).

Story....not much to say here yet. I've seen quite a few people make remarks about it which I don't understand seeing as how we know next to nothing about the game's story, the demo doesn't really go into much of anything at all. It's a Bioware game so I'm not worried about the story. I do however agree with everyone that said it was hard/impossible to feel bad about your brother/sister dying so early on....I mean we barely spent 10 minutes with them for god's sake.

Am I missing anything...?

I think I'm really going to enjoy the way the story is told, through Varric (story within a story), I think that's a really cool idea.

Oh ya, the classes...Mage-ownage, Rogue-ownage, Warrior-lame (at least in the demo). The warrior really stuck out to me as being by far the most boring, uninteresting and (at least when used as a damager) useless compared to the other 2 classes. They are incredibly good at sucking up damage though when used with a shield and the right talents (as showcased by Aveline, I don't think I ever saw her lose even half her health).

Anyway, I can't wait for my Signature Edition to get here!

I also notice there bashing the console gaming crowd for "ruining the game."   As a member of the console gamign crowd I rather resent that, I got the first game for my PS3 and love it to death, yeah I can't zoom out like the PC version, which kinda sucked, but still I loved it.    And as I recall the first KOTOR game was made for the Console first.

Ok finished 2 run throughs, male fighter with 2-hander and female rogue with bow.

Firstly the combat is a great improvement, much more fluid and responsive, and the new abilities are fun, looking forward to playing around with the full skill tree.

The new conversation system seems good, plus I can pick what I fell my Hawke would say without having to worry about morality meters, just how it affects my team mates, which is more fun and very reminiscent of KOTOR2 (which is always a good thing).

New graphics are alot crisper even if we are confined to medium level graphics for this demo.

Loving the new look for Flemeth - just screams badass, unfortunately can't say the same for the Hurlocks, major fail there.

The section in Kirkwall does seem a bit disjointed - I know its only a demo but a bit more lead up to meeting Isabella would have been preferable as it would have helped make more sense.

Overall very promising.

Tried with both mage and rogue so far. The combat is fast and active, quite engaging. Melee fighters close the distance fast, and spells effects are quite showy. Maybe a little too much, though.

My biggest disappointment is the story : the demo gloss to much things over and tries to go too fast, choping the meeting with Isabela for instance. This is not engaging and not even good story telling. Even for a demo, first impressions are important, and I would have prefered to meet properly Isabela rather than participating to the fight in the Chantry with her.

The voice acting sounds about correct, but somehow Lady Hawke's voice doesn't feel right. Maybe I just need to get used to it. Male Hawke is a tad better.

While in dx11, I can run up to 8xAA at High Graphics but if I add any other settings, I start to slow down. While in DA:O I set everything to max and not a bit FPS slowdown.
I'm using a Geforce GTS 450 and I apparantly go well best the games reccomodations.

From other comments I've seen on this, AMD users have far less if any troubles with running at high settings in comparison to Nvidia. From what I've seen anyway.

Actually the game's recommendation for DX11 is the GTX 460 which is above yours. Also, you probably will be able to add other settings if you turn the AA down... 8x is a bit unnecessary...

And also, it's been said that DX11 is bugged in the demo.

I already bought, since it was announced the pre-order (Amazon), even before the pre-order became the Signature Edition, so, I'm counting on the usual quality standard of Bioware. ;)

[*]What I hated:
[*]No tactical/isometric view. This is my only major concern about the game. What made Origins so great was its deep strategy. We were told it would still be the case with Dragon Age 2 but without a good view of the battlefield it's very hard to have the same depth of gameplay. Aiming spells is a pain with the actual camera. I cannot begin to imagine how much worse it will be with friendly fire... Bioware, if it is at all possible, bring this back in a patch. You'll be loved by many for it. I feel like it may prevent many from enjoying this otherwise incredible game.

Pretty sure they said in the making of video that this was done so they could show us more/better visuals and stuff because if you recall, while fully zoomed out in DA:O, a lot of stuff wasn't even rendered such as the ceiling and trees, and looked rather stupid imo.
*waits for people to say "but the graphics aren't that good"*

I know I know, and I agree, if they want us to view more visuals they should also make the visuals look better.

Did some of you actually read the bright red tips in the video settings in game when selecting DX11? obviously not.

And to those saying the demo's graphics are an obvious improvement, sorry but I'm not seeing it, at least not in the texture department, though I believe there is a good reason for this, it's a demo which they have to keep the file size limited for downloading, though I do find the full game 7 gig a little sus.

Only thing that annoyed me with the demo (and presumably the full version of DA2) on PC was that you have to actually point and click the conversation wheel options instead of just using your mouse movement to highlight the choice and clicking without pointing at a specific location on the screen. Mass Effect did this right so I was surprised that it wasn't implemented for DA2 as well. Using the conversation wheel this way felt natural when using a mouse!

Ugh. It was just a demo, so it's hard to tell, but...see, if you release a demo, wouldn't you want to release a high quality part of the game? I mean...it's just people running away from a city. It just starts with them in the mountains. No emotions, they are a bunch of strangers for the player. Your sibling dies? Neither Hawke nor Bethany seem to care. Hawke does not move a muscle, he could care less.

And Hawke's mother has a point here: why did he just stand there when his sibling charges at an ogre? In this scene, everyone just stands there, doing nothing but watching that ogre standing around and when Carver goes for him, everyone else goes "Duhhhhh". He dies, a drawn-out, rather boring fight starts and...a short scene is shown where that random templar seems to care more than Hawke. That's...terrible writing.

The templar death was done in a much better way. Clichee, but much better and actually interesting. Strange though that the writers want us to care more for a random templar than for our own sibling...hm.

The lack of emotion is a huge flaw in the demo. In the last part, when you try to down-talk the guy hiding in the chantry and Princess of Persia kills him with a knife, Hawke goes like "So what.". He does not seem to be interested at all. Have a look at ME 2 and the infamous "Shepard pulls the gun away" scenes. Take the one where Garrus wants to shoot the other guy in the leg - you are an actual PLAYER as you can decide to stop him by performing a Paragon action. In DA2, do whatever you want, nobody cares, she will kill him anyway. Uhm Bioware, why give us such a decision when it ends up the same anyway?

+1

Well... yes and no.  One of the most annoying points of my gaming in the past three years was playing an amazing Brutal Legend Demo, buying the game and realizing the first fifteen minutes was far and away the most entertaining portion of the game.

Judging the storyline off the demo is impossible.  The isabella action is a completely optional part of the game.  Its just an example that was given.

That and the demo build is months old.  I would expect the retail release to look much better.
