What I hated:
[*]No tactical/isometric view.
This is my only major concern about the game. What made Origins so
great was its deep strategy. We were told it would still be the case
with Dragon Age 2 but without a good view of the battlefield it's very
hard to have the same depth of gameplay. Aiming spells is a pain with
the actual camera. I cannot begin to imagine how much worse it will be
with friendly fire... Bioware, if it is at all possible, bring this back in a patch. You'll be loved by many for it. I feel like it may prevent many from enjoying this otherwise incredible game.
sure they said in the making of video that this was done so they could
show us more/better visuals and stuff because if you recall, while fully
zoomed out in DA:O, a lot of stuff wasn't even rendered such as the
ceiling and trees, and looked rather stupid imo.
*waits for people to say "but the graphics aren't that good"*
I know I know, and I agree, if they want us to view more visuals they should also make the visuals look better.
"Not
to start a fight with you or anything, I understand your argument, but I
disagree. We are going to see the visuals up close no matter what, if
only for the conversations. And if you want to revel in the eye candy of
the action, you could always zoom back in or not zoom out at all. I am
actually concerned by the lack of ability to zoom out into a tactical
view more than anything. I want the option, nobody is forced to use it.
It seems a little dumb to me to force players to look at the characters
models closely, even in combat, to see how good they look.
A game
not looking like the next Crysis, I can manage. But, a game that has
reduced playability because of camera issues, I have a harder time
dealing with.
Anyway, that's just me."
Julian, I understand your loss. That being said, I prefered playing the game somewhat zoomed in so I haven't noticed a difference yet.

Just because combat is faster, more visceral and much more responsive doesn't mean the gameplay has been "watered down" at all. RPG's are evolving and this is simply a natural part of that process.
I played the demo 5 times with each class combination and I honestly can't choose because they are all so fun. DW rogue is extremely satisfying, yet on harder difficulties i'm not sure i'll be able to rely an my friendly AI to damage/heal effectively as a mage. I played on x360, playing as both a more traditional action rpg, and then as a stop and pause tactical rpg. Both feel much better than they did in the first and the simple UI is exactly what i'm looking for.
Reminder: this is just a DEMO, and while it gave me a good idea of the tone and revised gameplay mechanics, i imagine the full retail version to be exponentially more satisfying.

It was OK, but I'm still on the fence about picking the game up.
Even for non-optimized settings, a lot of the textures were just BAD.
Hawke shows little emotion, and some of the dialogue wasn't very good.
Lining up two dramatic deaths back-to-back was not a good choice, not that the death of your sibling actually has any drame since we don't know the character AT ALL at that point.
The combat animations are a bit too much. I know they wanted it to feel more exciting, but the teleportation, the fact that a two-handed weapon doesn't seem to slow a character down at all, and all of the needless spinning around and whatnot just felt out of place in this setting.

I think we're mainly referring to the ones who have been like "Not buying the game now." Those people should probably leave after posting feedback.
Anyone else, sure, stay and post.
I agree. also people need to realize this is a demo probably cobbled together while they were working on the actual game. it's not smooth. it's not polished. it's little bits stiched together mostly I think to highlight combat..which is fine. I had fun with it on pc. you can't judge a game from one little rough demo not in it's entirety. Love it. hate it. reserved judgement. whatever floats your boat. just be fair and respect opinions that differ from your own. I will like and play it for what it is just like i did ME 2

The more I see this the more I realize the changes to rogue were simply about the false perception that rogues were only good for lockpicking, rather than far deadlier melee fighters than warriors. IOW players some players never figured out how to build a rogue, so now we get ninjas on crack instead of proper fighters. Silly. The changes to mage class are welcome, but with DW rogue they fixed something that wasn't broken and made it (for me) unplayable, whereas warrior class is as boring as it was before.Alpr wrote...
All a rogue was good for in Origins imo was for picking locks and doors, but now I am really loving them.

PC : Demo
Right mouse button is responsible for moving, attacking and turning the camera.
With the combat pace I found when I was trying to get a more comfortable camera angle I would sometimes accidentally run off into the distance and it just feels a bit awkward.
a toggle disable for click to move would be highly appreciated since I prefer to move with W,A,S & D
Yeah, they should have used the middle mouse button to move the camera

As someone who has played, and loved, every game Bioware has ever made, it's impossible to convey just how much I hate this demo. DA2 is the final nail in the coffin for deep PC rpgs, and in an amazing twist the company that got me hooked on them in the first place is who sealed the deal.
Shame on you Bioware, for pandering to the ADHD crowd and turning the PC rpg into a joke. I realize consoles make more money, but did you have to totally abandon your loyal PC base? Besides the graphics, everything about DA2 is a step back from the first game.
Once upon a time you guys made deep, interesting rpgs that were worthy of the Bioware name. It seems those days are gone and this action based drivel is all we can expect from you guys.
Oh, how the mighty have fallen.
Wow... Um, to take your personal opinion and turn it into a condemnation of a company... impressive. I would expect it if the demo was actually horrible. It wasn't, it just wasn't what you wanted. That's a very different sin. Perhaps they have personally let you down, doesn't mean they have fallen. You just aren't their only demographic.anymore. qq more please, I want to see if its possible.
But every thing he says is true, im 100% agree with him, this game is major stepback for all PC players who are use to deep and complex rpgs DA2 is justa fast pace hack slash with limited freedom and alot of OVER TOP ACTION just rediculous insane action:(
When i started this demo(i already knew i would not like it from all info i got before demo) i thought WHAT????is this **** omg this can't be right this must be some mistake ive dl wrong game lol.
I dont condem bioware they just wanne make buck there longterm fans is not importend anymore its all new young console fans they want well so be it then ill look somewhere else then im affraid.
Have fun with this ADHD hack and slash fest:P
P.S Its 100% made for console in mind very dissapointed:(

Sounds stupid, but every time I tried to forget about it I just thought of it again. When I have to have my TV really quiet I won't be able to see what people are talking about at all. Same for the inventory names. When I looted the bodies I could barely even tell what I'd picked up. My TV's huge, too, I thought it might have stretched the text out anyway, but alas, no =( Other then that, though, no complaints. Anyway, there's my feedback. Good job, guys, and thanks again for the demo...

I think you will find that most of Bioware's old PC fans think the same way. And, yes, as a maker of deep, intelligent PC rpg games, they have fallen...quite a bit, actually.
I actually enjoyed DA for what it was, but it's was clear then that the trend was to move away from what made the company great, and move towards the money grab. That's fine and all, but DA2 has taken it even a step further and is an abomination of types of games that Bioware became famous for.
Seriously, if going from what is probably the best PC game ever made, Baldur's Gate 2, to this tripe isn't falling I don't know what is.

Unfortunately, I can't take any of that seriously with the ridiculous female body types. It was literally so distracting and ludicrous I couldn't even concentrate on what was happening. This statement is not to turn the thread into a discussion about breasts, and I'm not flaming.
But I am very disappointed that not one single female character looked like a real woman, only rejects from Dead or Alive or Pam Anderson clones. I mean the breasts were bigger than heads here, folks, which is fine if you're a fun little game meant to be lighthearted and not taken seriously (don't get me wrong - I appreciate breasts, even large ones).
But the female body types in the game were so distractingly cartoonish and Jessica Rabbit like to me that I felt it was doing the good writing a big disservice.
Just my opinion, but I'm starting to thing I'm almost willing to wait until a decent mod comes out for PC to make the bodies less stupid looking.

After the first run, I blankly staired at my huge Bioware games collection and thought... Well, this is it.
I don't even know where to begin writing this. Is it the huge ****** everywhere? Is it the mindless combat? The totally "locked" zones? The absolutely boring characters? The fact that I can throw fireballs everywhere? The offer of free sex with no apparent reason? That my enemies seem to explode when I hit them with a sword?
How you guys have gone from making games like Baldurs Gate series and KOTOR is beyond me. But, I guess I have gotten too old and because I have played those titles, I find this game to be a farce of a RPG. But, I guess the new bioware fans haven't run through those and don't care what Bioware RPGs used to mean.
I guess I was expecting DA with better writing and a more colorfull set of characters... Instead I got what something that should just have been release for consols with the word "action" written about 10 times on the box, with big boobed ladies covered in blood with a "free sex for hire" sign and a huge twohanded sword with blood dripping all over them.
Ohh well, long time fan signing of and hoping the new generation of "bioware fans" enjoy the new style. One I think will just drown in all the other crappy action rpgs out there, but what do I know.
I hope there is a new development house out there, ready to pick up the old style of rpgs and keeping that going.

+ The combat. I certainly loved the combat; after two sessions I am itching to play it again if just for that. Rogue was a massive upgrade over the original. I like that it has given us a faster paced, more exciting, fluid combat system while maintaining the strategic pause and play for commands that many gamers (including myself) have loved since Baldur's Gate. I'm not sure how someone can actually complain about the movements and abilities becoming more fluid and exciting if a nice level of strategy is still maintained.
+ The Characters. Big surprise here, Bioware seems to have created some good characters yet again. I loved the female toughness shown, was a nice change to have a female tank. Certainly liked the dwarf (Vigrin? name escapes me) and Isabella's style. I won't know for sure until i experience more of the game, but I have no doubt that they have created some very enjoyable, lively characters yet again with suppurb writing to back them up.
+ The character voice. Not only do I like the voice actor, but I like the main character actually having an audible voice. Some may hate this, but to me it worked fine in the days of Baldur's Gate, Chrono Trigger, etc. where you were roleplaying as a little colored sprite. It even works fine in first person games such as Half Life or Fallout/Oblivion, but to me it ruined the immersion every time the camera pans on a 3D character with no emotion and a blank cheesy stare. Makes me want to scream "talk damnit talk!" So the voice for me was a welcome addition.
+ More cinematic. I know some RPGers are scared of this word, but I certainly enjoy the extra small action orientated cutscenes that seem to be in this one. Also, even the conversations seem to be far less stiff. Just because its an RPG with dialogue options does not mean the characters have to stand straight up, line up like they are in the revolutionary war, and stare at each other until the conversation ends.
+/- The dialogue wheel. This seems to be one of the biggest areas of controversy for most players, and I can sympthathize. I am neutral with it myself, having had it work well in Mass Effect 2, but i understand the loss of option as you don't know exactly what lies behind the few words given to you as choices. It keeps things moving at a faster pace, but I can't say that I wouldn't mind the option to be presented with full sentences instead. One thing I do like are the little tone icons for various things, which could work even with full sentences so that you know the way the words are meant to be delivered. I think we have all probably taken a few text messages out of context (and paid the price) and this would help eliminate that. Maybe Verizon should play this...
+/- The graphics. I am also neutral with the graphical style. They certainly won't be winning any awards, but they are nice and clean. I don't really like or dislike the unique style, but they have succeeded in giving dragon age a signature look. I enjoy nice graphics as much as most, but at the same time, these are good enough that if spending more time perfecting the gameplay and lengthening the game comes at a slight graphical cost, then go right ahead.
The bottom line is that the Dragon Age II demo made me want to play the full version of Dragon Age, and isn't that what a demo sets out to do? There was nothing that stood out that I disliked, and my only slight worry is variety as far as locations go. Playing it made me rush out and pre order the PC version, and ensured that this morning's operating room sessions were filled with distracting thoughts of Dragon Age II. I for one can not wait for the full release.

I played the demo on PC.
Even after checking the settings, I found the cutscene dialogue volume to be very soft compared to gameplay sounds. I had to adjust my computer's volume. I also had strange graphics glitches, though I don't know if it was because of my old computer, seen here: http://imgur.com/a/8myCe (Hope it's just 'cos I'm a computer-idiot though.)

I had a couple of crashing problems with the PC but after a visit to tech support forum I got it all sorted out and have had no problems since.
I really enjoy the combat, great fun and still tactical. I'll definitely up the difficulty though, it was quite easy.
I chose to skip the dialog on all but my first playthrough - I'm saving the story for the real thing - but what I saw I liked very much.
I can't wait for 11th March, I think Bioware are going to blow my mind again!

Wasn't one of Origins 'problems' its watered down, lacklustre, visuals? the brown washed effect?
Having played Origins a few times now, the visuals in DA2 are more vibrant and colourful, a nice change of pace.

How do I know if I've gotten Hayden's Razor? I've beaten the demo so many times, but I don't know if I've gotten the item. I've been logged on to the forums all the time, so shouldn't I have it?
EDIT: I just haven't received any inkling of a notification telling me if I have gotten it, so naturally I have to ask.
