Graphics are phenomenal.

Either you dont know the meaning of phenomenal, or you've never played a PC game in the last 3 years.

--Demo Spoilers, obviously--

I'm displeased with Hawke's reaction to the death of his sibling.

I agree. Hawkes reaction to the death was disapointing.

Damn. I am replaying right now and I skiped the Dragon-Bull**** scene because I was in the middle of a battle mashinbg buttons.<_<

Now I'm not going to go ahead and assume that we won't be able to ellicit more of a reaction out of Hawke after the whole thing with Flemeth and getting everyone out of harm's way, but the way the death was carried out just rubbed me the wrong way.  It wasn't poignant, it wasn't distressing, it wasn't meaningful--it just was.

Now you could argue that that is exactly what Bioware was going for her--making some lofty statement about how death comes suddenly and often without warning--but that doesn't make the scene any less bland.

Yeah, but Hawkes response was alitle wrong IMO. He say that his brother died a hero, or jokes about father getting company or just saying whatever, we have to go.
I know that Hawke and Carver had some bad blood but still, he was his brother. How about a "NOOOooo!" or a "No Carver... Not you.", "This can't be happening." or something.
I just hope we get a scene like that later.

These are the thoughts I reached during 2 playthroughs of the demo (male warrior, female mage).

- Text size/formatting too small for an SDTV 4:3 ratio. Seriously, It's next to impossible to see, I have to squint. Perhaps a text formatting option can be added to the menus on a future update? This is a HUGE barrier for me as I really cannot see myself reading any codex entries with this tiny text sizing. I suppose I will have to hook the damn 360 up to my 22 inch monitor.

With the above in mind, (ie: the careless disregard for the players experience of the game as a ROLE PLAYING GAME) and the paraphrased dialogue wheel system where, I am sorry... but what hawk says is not what I expect
or could be reasonably inferred by the paraphrase it is clear that this is Dragon effect as many had feared... They are attempting to make a compelling playable movie experience (ie: you sit and watch) rather than a role playing game. I do not think (despite the stats and combat system) this can be properly referred to as a role playing game when so many choices as to who you are (ie: your role, your character) are restricted or predetermined.

Verdict: Dragon Effect will likely sell a million copies to movie goers! Expect Dragon Effect 3: Redragonfied in Q1 2012!

I find it ironic that you complain about a lack of emotional investment on the one hand, but attack the cinematic presentation on the other. A voiced protagonist with facial expressions is much more emotionally engaging than a deadpan, mute character, even IF you got to create them.

Also the Warden was just as much "bioware's character" as Hawke is...the only difference is you don't get to choose one of six origins and one of three races. You still get to customize the look, personality and choices of the character...and if you don't consider that role-playing, AND you don't consider the level-up/skills/combat mechanics role-playing, then what IS? O.o

I think he/she is talking about not having control over your character in many situations. Like fighting for someone you don't even know.

First, sorry to cut it short, don't want a gigantic post.
But please don't forget you're playing the DEMO!!! If they had done all that stuff, like giving you the choice to take varric or not ect, then it would already been the game.. Not a demo..
A demo just wants you to experience the gameplay, the graphics and all that stuff.
I missed it too, but we just have to wait a bit longer for that experience.

Now my impressions:
The combat.. Dual weapon rogue felt wonderful! In DA:O it was already my favourite, but now I don't want to do anything else! Much stonger abilities and stuff! I really love it!

Graphics: Can not really judge them. It has improved, but I think that a great improvement came from my computer (new one).

Characters: Except for Isabella (I think she is a bit underdressed), I like the looks. Isabella in her very first line reminded me of 'Captain' Jack Sparrow, which was funny :).

Overall:
*starts praying to the Maker*
Please let is be 11 March already, Please!!

Yes I know. I've cancelled my Signature Edition pre order. It doesnt really matter though because the game will still sell loads, everyone will call it great, and Bioware will never produce a decent RPG ever again.

BioWare, I thoroughly enjoyed this demo.

I've played Dragon Age: Origins countless times, and I had high expectations. Based on what I played in the demo, I am completely confident this will be a great game. Playing as a female mage my first time through (I plan to mess around with the other classes later on today) I fell in love with the spells. Combat in generally is greatly improved in most aspects, and I hope the actual gameplay will be even better with everything enabled.

At first I was disappointed that a sort of Mass Effect form of conversing with characters had been employed (at least when exploring), but I find that usually all I ever got (in DA:O) a majority of the time was just a: "Hey friend, what's up?" comment, and I'd exit out of the conversation anyway, which could get a bit annoying if I clicked on the character by accident anyway.

The Lothering area in the beginning wasn't the most exciting area, but I was too focused on figuring things out to mind it much. By the time I saw Kirkwall, I was absolutely ecstatic. Everything looks beautiful. I much prefer this style to the old one.

Oh yes, and I also had trouble viewing text at times, especially on the main menu and in the options screens. This is something I have a problem with in almost any recent game, however; I actually had a frustrating time choosing options that were beyond recognition on my screen in Mass Effect 2. I guess I just really need to buy a new television set.

Anyway, I digress. All in all, I am hardly able to contain my excitement for the actual game to come out. March 8th can't come soon enough!

What a dumbed down pile of crap.

Anyone who can enjoy this demo doesnt have enough brain cells in their head.

This game doesnt even deserve to be called an RPG, it doesnt even compare to the first Dragon Age, or to Baldur's Gate.

This was also my problem with Mass Efect 2 too. I find myself struggling while trying to read anything on the screen.  They probably don't care though, as long as they get my money.

I loved the demo. However, one thing I noticed is that Kirkwall seemed pretty vacant even though the level was at night. Hopefully the city will seem a little more vibrant and alive with people around come March 8th. I find it hard to believe that as soon as the sun goes down everyone around goes inside

I played on the Xbox 360 and I have to say that the demo was awesome!:o The game play is just like DAO, the combat is much faster and a lot better IMO, and everything about the demo is great. The only thing I can say bad about this game is that you have to keep pressing the A button just to keep your character attacking the enemy and I have to wait in till March 8th to get this game.

The textures range from good to ok to blurry and to very blurry and Isabela is like a mix of great/good/bad/worse texture detail.

Not to be all negative, :P, I should add that playing as a mage the combat was insane fun, considering the fact that it point-click-auto.

I'm hoping the camera issue (no tactical view on PC) will be taken care of by Bioware in a patch. It has been done for Neverwinter Nights 2 (although that was Obsidian) and I really believe they should correct that huge mistake given how many PC players here seem to have a problem with that.

In my opinion, it takes a lot out of the game, compared to Origins. It could prevent a lot of us from fully appreciating the game.

A classic BioWare game with great story telling which was very immersive. Liked the new combat although it isn't as responsive as I wanted it to be, but way better than the previous game.

I absolutely hate the graphics. I put it on the highest settings per the demo and still can't stand it. It is very "cartoony" and very "solid feeling". By "solid feeling" that I mean the hair and motions seem very robotic.

Great job on storytelling, voice acting and the overall game. I hope the graphics weren't like this however. But you can't have it all.

Edit:  Played on PC.  i7 950 and GTX 570.

(Warning WALL 'O TEXT)

 PC Version:

Download didn't take long for me, so no issues with that. Neither did install take very long.

Technical Graphics:
I set the game to DX11, High, Full AA, 1920x1080 etc (basically everything on the max you could get it). The texture looked pretty good and it lessened my worries about poor textures (from pesky screenshots) alot, of course most DX11 features were not active so I can't give a full review of it yet. However there was some bad screentearing with Vsync on and when I turned it off, the game crashed on the Isabella cutscene (the one in the chantry) and I was force to restart, however there were no issues like this with Vsync on (apart from the screentearing). Also, I had a decent framerate even with DX11 on, these are my comp specs:

Intel  i7 CPU 950 @ 3.07GHz (8 CPU)
6144MB (RAM)
1 TB (Harddrive)
AMD Radeon HD 6870 (Sapphire)
Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit

Some of the cutscene loads (that were mid-cutscene) were a bit jarring but not too much of an issue. The camera angle was bit of an issue, especially with mage where it was really hard sometimes to determind where to place an AOE spell, I'm not saying that it must have a tactical cam but a more free one would of been nice. Wasn't so much an issue with Warrior but with Mage it definately caused me so issues.

Gameplay/Combat:
My first runthrough was female mage but unfortunately my game crashed just before the fight with Castillon's lackey but from what I could tell the mage seemed harder than the other classes (well haven't tried rogue yet), I found my warriors (Aveline and Carver) taking in alot of damage during the blight sequences, however this might of been because I was just getting use to the fighting system (only discovered health potion option towards the end of the ogre fight). I somehow managed to defeat the Ogre with just my Mage as Carver and Aveline both died (most likely because of my lack of knowledge). Another observation was that Mages seemed to require much more pausing (mostly due to positioning the spells). But as a whole the mage provided a nice tatical experience. I also really loved the various mage animations, they were really well done.

I managed a complete runthrough with my Male Warrior, this definately required less pausing (though I still paused,  but mostly for Bethany and queing up moves), he moved much more fluidly than in DAO, it was a pretty good balance between the mage and Rogue classes, it's not as fast paced as the rogue but not as slow/tactical as the mage. I found the game MUCH easier as a warrior than a mage and managed to cruise through the Ogre battle with no one dying (expect for Carver's inevitable death). All in all, warrior was a very nice blend between face-paced combat and tactical moves.

Story/Character:
Well to be honest we only saw snippets of the story and characters in the demo but I'll try and summarize what I felt about the characters I've seen. First our siblings, I found Bethany to be a bit more 'bland' than Carver personally, she did have a spunk to her but Carver seemed more rebelious and interesting, his reactions were quite stoic but in a good way (built on his character). Bethany had the best reaction to the Ogre attack though (sans Mama Hawke), you could tell how sad she was with her twins death, in both sequences I felt that Hawke didn't seem THAT bothered (no I didn't choose aggressive options). The VAs for both characters were pretty solid and I can't really find much fault (other than Bethany had a weird 'Tranquil tone' at one point.

Aveline was everything I expected her to be, tough, stubborn but still with a tender side, I had her kill Wesley herself and I also had myself kill Wesley, her reactions to both were great, though I didn't see tears? (Maybe my eyes were playing with me). Her VA was great and to be honest pretty flawless, she showed the right emotion and overall Aveline seems pretty interesting.

Varric, well, I wish we saw more of Varric than the cutscenes but his VA was superb, couldn't find much fault, his character seemed cocky and confident, just what I expected, but we didn't learn much about him so I can't comment much.

Isabela, I actually saw a rather tender side to her when I asked her about the enslaved Elves but unfortunately I didn't see that much of her character. Her VA again like everyone else's was great, Bioware is really keep it top-quality with the VA. Her dialogue painted what I already saw her character was to be like, smart, witty and confident, fitted right in.

Mama Hawke was great, though it was a bit jarring that she had the identical tone and voice to Eleanor Cousland (I know it's the same VA but some VA's can do different voices), however I soon stopped thinking about my Warden and focused on her as a character. She seemed pretty much the standard motherly character though she had a confident/strong-willed edge to her that bunked up alot of respect from me. She isn't the sissy, stand in the corner type.

Flemeth (how could I forget), well, once again her VA is superb and the flemeth has been kept consistent to the one in DAO (despite appearance change), she was still her usual crazy, yet wise self. Again she gives the image that she's pulling the strings behind the scenes, just like she did in DAO, great performance again by Kate Mulgrew.

As for the story, I can't comment much because well, I didn't see much, so rather than make assumptions, I'll just leave that alone.

Cinematics:
While I wouldn't call the vistas on the level on Mass Effect 2 (though to be fair ME2 did use CGI), they were still pretty decent a big improvement over DAO overall. Kirkwall looked great, stellar and grand looking in Hightown, the Chantry also looked quite amazing.

As for the general cinematics, the cutscenes were much more fluid this time around with no clanky animations (though I felt the walking animation for female was quite strange and jarring), everything seemed smoother and cleaner, though the fire from Flemeth in dragon form seemed quite low quality. The transitions between Varric + Cassandra and the story were great though, felt really fresh and not a simple black fade. All in all the cinematics were better than DAO but perhaps not on the level of Mass Effect 2.

Facial animations were great, though the eyes seemed a bit dead at times. But the subtle touches like Hawke smirking at Isabela's offer and his puzzled look at Flemeth were great and added to the overall feel of the cutscene.

EDIT: Forgot about Music, I'll be brief, it added alot to the cinematic experience and was definately an improvement over DAO's (which felt very generic and sometimes didn't fit in at all). This time it seemed to have more of an idenity to some extent. However it was anything overwhelmingly brilliant and alot of the time I barely registered it, unlike games like Silent Hill where the music gets to me straight away.

Overall? Loved it and I'm glad I preordered all the way back in December!

Finished the demo. The fight at the end of the Lothering section was hard until I figured out the proper way to do it. The game is more actiony than the last one, where I just had to press A to go up to the enemy to start hitting them with my sword.

My criticisms is that it'll get annoying mashing A a bunch. But auto attack will be in the full version so that's a moot point. Also the text on a SD tv screen is really hard to read. Other than that, looking forward to Dragon Age II in 2 weeks!

Music - NAILED! Just perfect. It feels like Origins, but it's new, it's fresh. Its awesome. Even the credit song is just brilliant.

Combat - Take your hats off, the combat is outstanding. I was apprehensive but you really have done incredible work with this. It really does feel deep and tactical but looks and plays like an action game, but if you want to hit the spacebar every few seconds..that doesn't take anything away from it at all.

Dialogue - The voiced protagonist does great for immersion in a cinematic style...but I just don't feel the love for it like I did with Origins dialogue choice. It's still great though, just not my preferred style of play...and you may have pulled out the hammy cheesy dialogue a little more than I would have liked...but it's not a deal breaker..and the VO's are good at their jobs so that helps balance that out.

Graphics - The animation is incredible, just lovely. As for the graphics themselves - I prefer my gritty - going for realism, but if the art direction was aiming for stand out and unique...well you got that right in spades.

Story - Hard to say with their being such a brief taste, and no non combat sequences to run around exploring, so I won't worry too much about that yet.

Interface - love it. It's streamlined, simple, quick to figure out. The RPG elements look available in large numbers (not like another certain BioWare sequel *cough*) and this makes me very, very happy.

Overall - This demo has pushed my excitement for this game into ludicrous speed. If the demo is anything to go by..you guys have got an absolute winner on your hands.

PC version:

The Good:

- Loved the improved speed of combat, even if the "spastic" action took a little bit to get used to.

- Cut scenes were well done as were the voiceovers.

- Played through with the Rogue only so far, but very nice mix of abilities and animations. I was starting to get the hang of the "Evade" power by the end.

- Spell effects are quite nice too.

In Need of Improvement:

- Framerates were just the slightest bit choppy when looking around and I have a high-end PC. Though from the comments here, it might be the (not properly implemented?) DX 11.

- I also noticed some issues in the Tactics screen where you intermittently could not select items on that screen with the mouse. It's hard to explain, sometimes you could select an item, sometimes you could mouse-over on an item and it would not glow and clicking the button would select something entirely other than you were pointing at. Also, sometimes clicking "back" from the Tactics screen would ask you to save your changes. Sometimes it wouldn't (but still remember your changes).

- And on occasion I noticed companions just standing around in combat, especially in the early going. Even with an enemy hacking away at them. Didn't notice that problem in Kirkwall though.

- I wish the zoom moved out higher over the battlefield though. Selecting things with AoE abilities are a little awkward in some places.

- I also noticed that the companions are poor shots when trying to target enemies on the move with AoE powers. And even occasionally dubious placement of AoEs on stationary targets. I felt like I had to micromanage the mage more than I really wanted to.
