Dragon Age 2 Demo feedback thread

Wasn't engaging at all. Will not buy the game. Can't imagine there will be any replay value either when the game looks like a movie with cutscenes every two minutes.

I love rogues as a concept, but in DA2 they are just way too flippy floppy, it's silly watching my rogue do four roundhouse kicks in a row while chasing a darkspawn; I'd rather the animation just be a flurry of thrusts with an occasional kick or duck.
Mages are always fun to play, but what the heck happened to the spell animations? Seriously, Origins animations were pretty good, but the DA2 spell animations are a straight up downgrade. All the fire spells just feel so weak (animation wise), and crushing prison is a shell of its former self (again, animation wise). Winter's grasp was cool when it suddenly froze targets from bottom to top, now it looks like a measly little snowball. The only animation that I liked was cone of cold.
Overall though, the combat felt fluid and was a huge step ahead of DA:O (Dragon age combat was a snoozfest for me). I actually don't mind the graphics, although the starting environment was pretty bland... I understand it's supposed to be the blightlands or whatever, but I guess this is a case of entertainment > realism, ya know? It doesn't have to be a desert with two plants....
The dialogue was superb, but I'm kind of saddened that Bioware chose to take it the Mass Effect route. I don't mind the wheel, but seriously... Did we really need another game where we only had 3 options: nice guy, sarcastic guy, and ****?

My single largest gripe is with respect to the camera. The camera on the PC version is a disappointing move backwards from DA:O. As far as I could tell, there wasn't much of a problem with the camera in DA:O. Why fix what isn't broken? ;-)

I've seen a spokeswoman for DA2. Just putting it out there. Her video might still be on Youtube, I dunno.

Like I said Mr. Epler, I will refrain from discussing breast sizes now.

I'm not 100% sure, but didn't some officials confirm this as well? At least as far as how much graphics are optimized that the demo engine is an earlier build and the actual game was much more optimized graphically/performance wise or what not.
I'm paraphrasing though. Don't know in what post I read it.

Half of the writing team are female, actually.
So why haven't I seen them or heard them in any of the podcasts, video clips etc ?

Well, that one slipped me by, it must have been one of those rarified moments !

What looses a lot of RPG character of the game is the decision wheel. I already dislike not knowing what I answer :-(.
Except that was a problem in DA:O as well. You're given the intent of the words by the wheel. Seeing everything in a dialog option would be rather difficult when Hawke decides to speak for than a few sentences.

that's generally how it goes I believe. They work on the test game first so they can showcase what they've done, then once that's done begin work on the actual final product.

I was talking to a bioware employee at customer support yesterday and she was female. Thats one.

Hmm, when I start the demo, I'm logged into the Bioware network. By the end of the demo I'm logged out and do not get Hayder's razor. Has this happened to anyone else, perchance?

As far as I'm aware, I've got said options toggled. Its the option you can access from the main menu of the demo right?
Hmm, another hint, when I start the portion where Hawke is running from the darkspawn with his family, thats when I'm informed that my connection with the server is lost. I'm quite puzzled as to what is happening here.

Possibly. I wouldn't know. I've never been to any conventions, so there might have been more women presenting the game there.

The combat (people can't really like the old school...which I grew up on...rpg way over this) is much more exciting to play over DA:O...and I LOVED DA:O, but oh man was combat dull. I'm going to enjoy this game and all of it's DLC and eagerly await the third installment. I know others will too.

Customer support ? I wonder what role she played in game design then

Don't fee the troll. He's trying to derail this thread into a PC-bioware-bashing politics topic. He's free to open a subject in off-topic or something... Ratios of female employees is faaaaar from being on topic for the demo-thread.

I love the new leveling system since it's so much more detailed and, at least for me, more intuitive. However, the only things I can complain about at the moment are the voice acting and the graphics.
Flawless as it may look, it feels like they dumbed it down a bit just so that it'll run more smoothly. Not that that's really distracting considering how the combat system makes it more engaging. I didn't get to use the tactics that much because I'd really only keep an eye on the health meter for all the characters. The only time I had to do anything of the sort was moving Bethany to avoid getting mauled by Darkspawn.
Anyway, I was expecting the voice acting to be on par with that of Mass Effect 2 but the consistency of the acting was far too much like that of Final Fantasy XIII - it's never really appropriate for the mood they're trying to set. I'm really singling out Hawke's mom. Would any mother really be that monotone after losing a child? Not even a hint of sobbing or hatred. She was just...emotionless. Even Aveline and Wesley's relationship didn't seem very viable.
To be honest, I can only hope the final product picks up the slack. I want to see how Thedas turned out after I spared The Architect, crowned Alistair, and went through the Eluvian with Morrigan.

Whole internet is saying the exact same thing as I am about: Bioware, I am disappointed in you guys. From the looks of the demo, it is apparent that everything was designed for consoles in mind, NOT pc. The graphics are also a downgrade from the first one in comparison. I have played DA Origins like 10 times and would still play it over and over again because it is apparent that you guys really did put some work in it but this one seems to be a total let down, from main character voices to graphics. So...... it looks like it's going to be witcher 2 for me.
Once again you guys disappoint me.
Umm well actually not really. Most bioware fans like this game, go on the polls and see which is winning, the i love DA2 option or i hate DA2. Its just that the people who like DA2 are either stunned by the idiocie of the haters or are just happy about the game and are moving on. The haters however are just whining on this forum because they have nothing better to do. Im seriously starting to get angry. Its one thing to not like the demo but its another thing to hate on it while you are incorrect and say oh im no longer your fan bioware. I mean seriously, im getting angry at all theese haters.
How can her/his opinion be incorrect? Is your opinion the one and only?
They asked for feedback to be posted here didn't they?
