I am playing on the Xbox version of the demo. I am very satisfied with the new combat style, I really love it, it's more fast paced without being to fast. . And I also love the way you are handling the skill trees, it is very good and improved from Dragon Age:Origins, and I loved Origins. I love the way the conversation is now as well, I love being able to hear my character and being able to see her facial expressions and the expression icons by each choice helps as well, it allows the player to know how they will be seen by the other characters. . And the facial expressions of the NPCs are very much improved upon as well, I love it. To be honest there was only one little thing that bothered me and drove me crazy. The text was too small, it took me two minutes to read a response choice. I know this sounds totally ridiculous, but it drove me CRAZY. With everything else I was VERY satisfied. I'm very exited for the release of Dragon Age:2 , but Please make the text bigger, lolz :3

First impressions......
Played the demo on PC. Coming from DA:O and Baldur's Gate, I want to like DA2. I don't think I'm the target audience for this series anymore. I pre-ordered the signature edition, but I'm not sure I can handle the new arcade-like nature of the game (excessive combat speed and darkspawn exploding all the time). As a PC player, I'll give the full game my best try. Just wanted to be honest on my impression of the demo.

Whole internet is saying the exact same thing as I am about: Bioware, I am disappointed in you guys. From the looks of the demo, it is apparent that everything was designed for consoles in mind, NOT pc. The graphics are also a downgrade from the first one in comparison. I have played DA Origins like 10 times and would still play it over and over again because it is apparent that you guys really did put some work in it but this one seems to be a total let down, from main character voices to graphics. So...... it looks like it's going to be witcher 2 for me.

Once again you guys disappoint me.

Umm well actually not really. Most bioware fans like this game, go on the polls and see which is winning, the i love DA2 option or i hate DA2. Its just that the people who like DA2 are either stunned by the idiocie of the haters or are just happy about the game and are moving on. The haters however are just whining on this forum because they have nothing better to do. Im seriously starting to get angry. Its one thing to not like the demo but its another thing to hate on it while you are incorrect and say oh im no longer your fan bioware. I mean seriously, im getting angry at all theese haters.

You can completely reject this but you sound like a freaking fanboy! Angry? Seriously? What? You working for bioware? And about "haters however are just whining on this forum because they have nothing better to do." This is my first freaking post ever on these forums, bioware website.

Fanboys hang around forums most of the time, which I don't but I was wondering if I could email bioware in some way about their quality going down the drain for pc but that's impossible so I got on here to leave a comment in hopes of them reading it but I didn't know we have an angry **** hanging around these forums and checking on others' comments. You like the game? Yes? Okay, that's fine but I don't.

I will always be bioware's fan but that doesn't necessarily mean I will be buying their crap products only because I am their fan.

Peace

Check out the gamespot gameplay walkthrough demo. I didn't like the demo either, and almost gave up on ordering DA2... But then I checked out the gameplay video and OMG its a completely different experience.

As I said earlier, I think this demo should have more appropriatelly been named the "early-game combat demo". Later in the game it gets more complex, more strategic, cooler story and interactions etc. I.E the demo's shallowness is not indicative of the actual game.

OMG people whine about the dumbest stuff. While I agree, focusing on one character that is totally removed from the first story seems odd and feels like a bad move on the surface, this series is about the world and the people that have impacted it. I'm ok with it. But come on...enough of the "I don't want this game because boobiez are too big, or because muscles are too prominent a feature in this FANTASY world." Good lord folks, there are big dragons and monsters to kill with swords, arrows, and fire...all with kick ass animations. Throw that in with Bioware's ability to flesh out a story and you have a really good, if not great, game.

The combat (people can't really like the old school...which I grew up on...rpg way over this) is much more exciting to play over DA:O...and I LOVED DA:O, but oh man was combat dull. I'm going to enjoy this game and all of it's DLC and eagerly await the third installment. I know others will too.

Perhaps.  And while I enjoyed the demo to a certain extent, I still hope that it's not a perceptual representation of the full gaming experience that DA2 has to offer.  The graphics, for instance, while an 'upgrade' from DA:O, still don't seem like much work was put into them.  As someone said before, 1080p please.

The music was good...but it's hard to beat the OST from DA:O.

I personally really enjoyed the (PC) demo, I'm liking it way more than DAO (which I'm still trying to finish). Right now I'm glad I have this sucker pre-ordered.

How can her/his opinion be incorrect? Is your opinion the one and only? :?
They asked for feedback to be posted here didn't they?

True, i guess im just really angry right now. I just think they are being unfair to bioware. If all theese people are insulted bioware so much i should be able to insult them.

Bioware deserves whatever feedback it gets, good or bad as long it's honest. You don't have to apologize to BioWare because no one is kissing their butts.

It should be objective, reasoned and informed if you want to get their attention though. Most of the criticism is along the lines of "wah its hack and slash" "wah its not like DAO". Most of which is wrong and not reasoned at all.

oh realy? OK.
Long long time ago, there was a  great RPGs. Like Baldurs Gate 1/2, Planescape Torment. DAO was so like those RPGs. Some thing in DAO reminds me of those times. I was so hoping that DA2 would beat BG high standart. But it seems it will not, because DA2 is console like slasher.

Combat system - pathetic, all those jumps etc. You know weapon and armor is actualy heavy stuff.
Hawke guy and his voice - ok, no personal character for me. It is sad.
Plot - ok, brother died, what a shame and i felt nothing. When Duncan has fallen i felt like my character lost a realy close friend. And besides, who the hell this hawke is? a refugee? he looks like a commando to me, or a ninja.
Skills system, emm i can live with that, but still old one was better.
main character replics with icons (!) . This is most retarded thing i ever seen. Even ME2 left/right clicking were a way better. This ME system is so stupid. Only few words on a screen, but character is reading whole poem in voice. And of couse reaction icons. OMG.
That what i saw in demo. This game was clearly made for consoles, and pc version is just a port if i may call it that way.

So bioware made console slasher. Great. But i will not buy it.

This comment sums up my feelings nicely:

I must confess I hated this demo. The ‘consolisation’ of the PC version was a bit of a surprise as the devs had made much of the fact they were making the UI PC friendly… but that is a minor point and something that can be gotten used to.

What utterly kills this game for me is the horrible animation compared to Dragon Age 1.

The combat is simply preposterous: the toons move in a series of jerky unbelievably fast ‘spaz attacks’ unlike the more fluid naturalistic DA1. Even the mages constantly twirl their staff REALLY REALLY FAST for some reason. In DA1, a two handed sword was swung slowly and ponderously in a way that suggested “HEAVY”… in DA2 the warrior flips it around as it it was an aluminium penknife.

In short, they have turned the RPG “Dragon Age” into an arcade fighter that should be retitled “Mortal-Kombat-with-dialogue”. Even the running animations are awkward and unnatural.

Huge huge HUGE disappointment.

Do rogues get a combat bonus in DA2 when they are behind an enemy or is this only achievable via the back stab talent? In DAO if you were a rogue and attacking someone from behind you would get a bonus and the animation would show you backstabbing. In the demo I noticed that no matter where you stood as a rogue the combat animation was the same.

A feedback thread where we are asked to not feedback on particular parts of a character model. Isn't that counterproductive? I understand the need to perhaps censor some wording on the forums but maybe someone needs to be a little more tactful when asking people to tone it down rather than throwing out threats.

I've been a customer of Bioware's products for many years, ever since their first game, and there are many others here on the forums like me. And we have a right to voice our opinions to Bioware when you, the game company yourselves, ask us for feedback on your demo. You asked the community to help you reach your 1 million demo download mark and we are all trying to do so. But then you want to punish us for providing honest feedback in a "feedback" thread? Maybe you need to rethink that.

And in regards to the aforementioned body parts on certain character models, I agree with others that they are far too big. It does not match the particular character's frame. I am not sure why you as the game developer did this, perhaps to standardize the female game model and to avoid making a number of different sizes? Save time and production costs by not having to deal with varying body sizes in regards to armor/equipment? I am not sure... but it is what it is; honest feedback.

I would also like to comment on the lower lip piercing. It's hideous. The gold piercing is so large that it stands out in every cutscene and ruins her otherwise attractive facial features. I don't mind piercings at all but it's far too large for her chin area.

Why are you so silly?  Shouting out a negative opinion is strongly discouraged and it's not even what Bioware is looking for, even though they released this demo for user feedback.  Don't make others angry here, only put in a good word and vote positively on the polls.

The combat felt amazing. I don't enjoy hack and slash, I think that's boring. But being a mage, I enjoyed having to hit the combos, watch where enemies were and where they were coming from, and managing which spells I had access to, and which ones I had to wait for. When the narrative did favor Hawke, I just felt awesome, blasting through the armies with an overpowered arsenal. When the narrative was against me, I was gritting my teeth for that moment I could finally unleash fireball. So kudos on making combat enjoyable for those who really do like combat to be more fast paced.

The dialogue wheel was a huge step up from ME2 (which I've been playing relentlessly since the PS3 came out with it), but I still think it is a step down from DA:O. I generally pay more attention to the symbol in the center of the wheel than to the words to get an idea of what I'm saying, and that gives significantly more precision than ME2 had. I am still hoping that the role playing moments will be as intensive in DA2 as they were before. My favorite thing was spending hours in cities, not fighting, just conversing and enacting games of intrigue. With how important decisions are sounding in the game, though, hopefully they kept it.

The biggest annoyance I had was, though it was newly stylized, the skill trees look so distant and it's harder to see what is all at your disposal. I liked the previous skill tree set up way better, as everything was more compact and it felt both more artistic and easier to navigate. The angled skills were especially hard to get to at times (I like to use the d-pad when browsing skills).

All in all, from a console gamer perspective, that was amazing. Can't wait till March 8th!

I liked the demo but i felt as though the attack animations were a bit too fast and that Bethany's boobs were too big. I thought the graphics were kinda "meh" and the demo itself was pretty choppy but i figure that will be fixed by launch (hopefully). I'm still excited for the game but i'll have to wait until i get it to form a full opinion.

Ok I admit I panicked and thought for sure the magic that is DAO was gone, but after seeing this interview and video many of my fears were put to rest.

The interview by Mike Laidlaw on gamespot explained many things that I was concerned about, still prefer the old ui, journal and so forth but those are things I can deal with.

See you all at release!

As a console player, I'm quite happy that DA2 is geared towards consoles. It's a shame that someone has to lose out, here (i.e. PC players), but I'm grateful it's not me. I imagine most PC players would feel the same way, were the shoe on the other foot.

Again, folks. Breast size discussion. Cut it out.

Hmm, is not a discussion about why this game sadly slavishly continues the trend of hypersexualising female characters ( by way of giving them large breast sizes ) in games ( in a way that male characters are not hypersexualised ) a valid discussion to have ?

I'm not sure that the point when bringing up the size of female characters' breasts should be about sexualization versus realism. Opinions regarding what's appropriate, reasonable, or attractive with regards to breast sizes hinge too much on personal preference to say that larger breasts are necessarily to give characters greater sex appeal, in my opinion. Much like the male Hawke's tremendous biceps: some women are bound to find them hunky, others rather disturbing.

The crux of the disagreements seem, to me, not to be about what's oversexualized or undersexualized, but rather about both what's actually attractive and what seems to suit the character—since players are going to sexually appraise characters, consciously or otherwise, no matter what.

Theagg wrote...

And that the only spokespersons we have seen or heard for the game ( designers, writers etc ) are men ? Perhaps that hints at why games still can't break that particular sexist design cycle.

That is so very untrue of the writers.

I really enjoyed the demo, on both PC and the 360. I think the new art style is a significant improvement, as it seems easier to pick out details. I think that while it is a bit of a bummer that warriors can no longer dual wield, it is for the best as the rogue feels more like it has its own identity. I found the combat to much more fluid, particularly for mages.

Speaking of which, I like the new spell effects. They add a "primalness" to the game. Spells feel more like an extension of the mage's will as opposed to magical formulae.

Thought this has been harped on already, I do find the hyper-sexualization of the women troubling. That being said, this is a demo. Our sample size is too small to make an informed judgment on the depiction of women. It could simply be bioware deciding to sexualize certain characters for story purposes. Isabella, for example, is a very sexual creature, and bioware is choosing to express that quality physically as well. I will wait to see more women in the game before making a decision.
