Voice acting + those icons are big dissapointment in demo, let's hope full game and full story modifies me maybe and I can adapt, but yeah. as said earlier - ur brother dies and I didn't feel a thing, strange.. esp. because VA was IMHO not performed well.

VA is good in many games, but you must execute it well - ME is more linear and tight and it should work nicely, you are commander shepard, that's like pretty one [wo]man's story, DA lore and DA:O was u could be dude from anywhere, now narrowing it only to 1 guy feels bad ME series copy :)
Okay, this is actually adaptable I guess playing it from the start til the end. But those VA choises still felt too narrow.

quoteing one guy
///
-sometimes after you kill the darkspawn a cutscene happens. the story is that your family is running away from the darkspawn. they aren’t doing a good job. at the end of every cutscene you can pick between “nice” “lol” and “cmon guys”. Nice means you tell your family that you love them. Cmon guys is you telling your family to shut up because demons are spawning in right now. Lol is if you’re roleplaying as an insufferable person. after the cutscenes end, you walk down the path again until more darkspawn appear and someone screams “MORE OF THEM!!”

I have a reason: it is not RPG.
objective: it is slasher for consoles.
I know evil when i taste it - as cpt. Severus said.
So for consoles it very well may be a greatest "RPG", but for my experience DA2 is failed.

What looses a lot of RPG character of the game is the decision wheel. I already dislike not knowing what I answer :-(.

You know what type of response you'll make and have some idea of what you'll say.

Yeah, didn't work for me, because in several instances, the response I clicked on wasn't anything like what I heard. For example, when Carver died, I chose "He's not alone" I didn't know that was the "charming" option, and I'm not sure how it's appropriate to respond in a "charming" manner when talking to your mother about your dead sibling, but the actual response spoken by the character was "Well, at least Father won't be alone." The tone was rather snarky--although it was hard for me to hear any emotion in F!Hawke's VA--and was totally not what I meant; I was thinking more "He's not alone because he'll go to the Maker's side", something that's actually consoling. Had I seen the full response, I would have chosen a different option.

For those who feel that combat is too fast, I strongly suggest a mage. I know it's not the ideal solution if you really, really like swinging sharp objects, but it's definitely the right choice if you prefer to make fewer, slower, more impactful tactical decisions rather than many, faster, more interchangeable ones.

Everything was great except the text size. Horrible. I can't understand what makes a developer say, "I think we will make it so that the player can't see a damn thing that we're saying".

So, I just finished my 4th demo play through and overall I really liked the game. The flow is nice, the game play smooth, and the the new art is well done.

I must say that the redesign of the warrior is pretty darn good. I thought I would miss my dual wield, but not at all. In fact, I really enjoy the two handed style now that it doesn't take a year and a 1/2 to complete a swing.

Although I am generally not a mage fan, I really like the mage as well. You have made the class very exciting and tangible for me personally.

I look forward to March 8th!

Spontaneous thoughts: Combat animations look really weird. Like the swords have no mass at all. ... like light saber combat, or something. I feel attacking, and overall combat is way too fast paced. It isn't humanly possible to swing a longsword at that speed.

My next concern is that it's terribly hard to get a sense of control in Dragon Age 2. Since the camera is constantly shaking, there's some 50% chance of misclicking, and running off into the background when you wanted to change target. And the shaking also made it very difficult to see what was actually going on, so I just ended up randomly mashing buttons because I didn't know who I was fighting or what was going on. And the camera setting is unfortunate. Enemies are constantly attacking from all directions, with little to no warning. Makes damn near impossible to fight strategically, as all your characters are spread out fighting 73 darkspawn in their own corner of the map, and whenever you pay one of them attention, the others get swamped.

And that Biotic charge thing your character does when the enemy is too far away looks kinda silly. It would work if you were some sort of arcane warrior-type class, but for standard warriors it doesn't make sense.

And that Ogre sucked. He didn't seem to do any real damage at all, whereas the first Ogre in Origins would insta-kill your team members if their HP dropped below 75% or some such. That was epic combat. This was more of a long wait for the Ogre's HP bar to drop to zero while mindlessly pressing buttons to make it go faster.

I played through it three times now. All 3 times as a male warrior because that's how I like to play.

Anyway, the combat is too fast. I can't really tell what's going on and because of that I can't tell any difference when I raise my stats.

Also, about the sexist BS. Maybe they should stop putting women in games, it seems that no matter how women are portrayed people whine and complain. Of course, if they took women out people would complain about that too.

that's exactly what I said! regarding women that is. People will find women in video games sexist no matter what the video game makers do. People play the sexist card so much it doesn't even mean anything anymore...Posted Image

Err, are you sure you actually understand what is meant by sexist ? Having women appear in video games certainly doesnt fit that definition.

ISOMETRIC VIEW, bring it back to PCs with a patch please!

Changing the camera view after every single char selection is so annoying. I pause a lot and I don't want to play it like a console action game :/.

one thing I find odd about the demo is that in the battle with the ogre, it shows Bethany/Carver with full health, even though they're supposed to have been killed.

I found it odd that in the Isabela barfight cutscene (3 scenes later) 'dead' Carver was Walking behind Hawke again.

Again, folks. Breast size discussion. Cut it out.

Hmm, is not a discussion about why this game sadly slavishly continues the trend of hypersexualising female characters ( by way of giving them large breast sizes ) in games ( in a way that male characters are not hypersexualised ) a valid discussion to have ?

That discussion is not sexist surely ?

And that the only spokespersons we have seen or heard for the game ( designers, writers etc ) are men ? Perhaps that hints at why games still can't break that particular sexist design cycle.

Because discussions on breast size on these forums tend to degenerate into 'you're sexist!' 'No you're not!' 'Well you're just jealous because you don't have large breasts!'

Not a discussion we're going to have in this thread. Rail about the unfairness of my despotic edict all you like, but it's not going to happen. End of discussion.

I'd say it's pretty universal, these forums just follow the laws of human nature :D

As a console player, I'm quite happy that DA2 is geared towards consoles. It's a shame that someone has to lose out, here (i.e. PC players), but I'm grateful it's not me. I imagine most PC players would feel the same way, were the shoe on the other foot.

PC players aren't losing out.

A fair assessment, and one I'm inclined to agree with. A vast chunk of the PC-centric Dragon Age fanbase, however...

We are losing out. A lot of us were dreading this was going to be a console port and it is. Head over to the Gamespot forums for the PC platform and go read all the posts about canceled pre-orders if you don't believe me. Players that like the demo are allowed to praise it and we are allowed to trash it. The vitriol and flaming is coming from the butt kissing BioWare fanboys, not us. Most of these guys are just butthurt someone would dare critisize a BioWare game and any negative posts are met with 'okay now get out' or 'wah wah wah' replies.

Played on the 360.
I Was turned off by the new art style, and the gap left by my missing warden wasn't filled by the switch from Rpg to Action/Rpg combat and the lack of being able to save/let perish my sibling for example maybe i want to have two mages in my party so i let my brother take the fall instead.

The lack of Bloodmage or arcane warrior specialities was VERY disterbing as well was the ability to dual wield as a warrior. I liked how in origins if i was a mage and i wanted to go pure elemental i could do that but with this new talent tree I felt a very strong push to pick spells i'd rather not have because the lack of being able to pick a more suitable one.

I liked the redesign on attributes and the feeling of legolas badassery as a archery rogue.
The conversation wheel simply melted down into what icon poped up and hardly botherd to read the actual line.

I felt the story jump to the intro of isabella was unessisary and translated into trying to overcompensate. The darkspawn redesign tookout the Dark in darkspawn, to be specific the teeth in origins showed a monster, whereas in 2 was just a big chomper set of teeth.

I noticed a few familiar body animations gestures, which made me feel you were too lazy to add some new ones. Less then a month from release and you wouldn't allow us to use the inventory?

For all my ranting if I consider this game as a seperate entity from origins it's not half bad.
DA is no longer my cup of tea.

Charming means pleasing, and in the game's usage it means that you're trying to please her and give her some sort of comfort. and I don't know why you thought it was snarky. It sounded sad, but at the same time there was a slight joy in what Hawke said.

Its important to remember that the button mashing in combat, is optional though. You can set it to auto-attack in the full game, just as it were in DA:O

I wish this post would pop up for people to read before they replied. It seems to be lost on some people.

Also, how the hell does the warrior character EXPLODE darkspawn with his sword? (whirlwind attack).

that's trailer footage that was shown a long time ago, they just used it for here. Like at the end they show the full trailer with Cassandra still having white hair. It's all prerendered, not supposed to follow the game just yet.

I forgot to add up to my original post that I was playing as a mage, clicked fireball, moved it over to Bethany's area, and it showed her with a full bar of health. I forgot the specifics on that.

A tip to people in this thread. You might want to check out gamespot for a 30 minute gameplay demo. I too was unimpressed and dissapointed after downloading the demo...

But then my spirits were back up when I watched the video walkthrough on gamespot. They were much further in the game, and it involved a lot cooler dialogue, travelling, and the combat was more strategic because there were more skills involved (already developed). There is more of a story and its a lot deeper/cooler.

I think the demo should have more realistically been called the "early-game combat demo" :)

Agreed.Oh and Bioware,I got your back!I loved the demo.

you could also primarily control the mage in your party during gameplay, and then roleplay your warrior/rogue as normal outside of combat.

My point proven, it seems.
That's not to say I don't sympathize with your point, Top Gun. We can't help having high expectations for the next game in a favorite franchise. I believe I'll enjoy this game, being a fan of action-RPG's myself. Though, for both of our sakes, I hope you're wrong and find yourself enjoying the game anyways.
If you don't, that's fine, too.

Played through as each class.  So far I like what I see.  I was most impressed by the rogue you guys really nailed it.

Also vast improvement in the animation of character expressions  over origins which I was glad to see.

Im not entirely sold on the hurlock redesigns.  They really just remind me of putties on the old power rangers show now and while its highly amusing, I think theyve lost some of the evilness they had in Origins.

My biggest concern is the lack of aoe friendly fire, as this was one of the most interesting tactical aspects of the first game.  Maneuvering your characters to get enemies into easily nuked groups while not killing your party often made for very intense life or death combat.

I know its the demo so its understandable you just want people to get a feel for the gameplay.  Im worried, however because I have heard friendly fire will only be on nightmare.  I would like to play through the game the first time on normal or hard maybe so I can learn the game, but I want the friendly fire aspect as well.  I really feel this should be a toggle-able feature.

Just my two coppers.
