My thoughts on the PC Demo-

Combat- Awesome, awesome, AWESOME. It felt much like the original dragon age, but faster paced. As a veteran DA:O player, I had no problem putting myself back in the drivers seat of my party, teaming up spells and abilities at leisure to lay waste to my enemies. And lay waste I did with my two-handed death machine. Using taunt to bring enemies near my warrior and then turning the whole bunch into a fine red mist with one well executed whirlwind swing was DEEPLY satisfying,

Cutscenes- There were a few places where combat took a few moments to transition to a cutscene a problem I never had with ME2 or DO:A. It was a little jarring and kind of detracted from the experience, but since fiddling with my video settings had no effect, I assume it's a polish issue that won't appear in the main game

Dialogue- I've never been able to figure out the people who don't like the mass effect dialogue wheel. The idea that you are surprised by the small differences in the dialogue text and what the character actually says just doesn't compute. I love it, and I love it's inclusion in this game. While I don't NEED my main character to talk to enjoy a game, it certainly doesn't hurt, and the voice actors do a fine job. (I miss Jennifer Hale, but she can't play EVERY lead female character. That would just get dull).

Overall, I'm really excited for the main game, and will probably play the demo a bajillion more times between now and then. It's gonna be a LONG two weeks.

Also, how the hell does the warrior character EXPLODE darkspawn with his sword? (whirlwind attack).

Just... what?!

Just like in Origins, I'm pretty sure it's just an over-the-top way of telling you that you've scored a critical. The rogue's backstab occasionally does the same.

Wasn`t that during Varic`s exagerated version? You might also notice that Bethany`s bossom is ALOT larger during that sequence.

Err, are you sure you actually understand what is meant by sexist ? Having women appear in video games certainly doesnt fit that definition.

this was regarding the umm.... now how do I say this without getting banhammered.... whatever it's regarding the taboo topic John Epler told us to refrain from speaking about.

if you people dont mind i would just like to say something about the figure of the women in the game...
first off, bethany isnt that ridiculus, shes only ridiculous in the opening scene because its varrics version of it.
second what is wrong with isabellas figure. miranda had a large behind but everyone is fine with thatt, whats so bad about isabella haveing a prominent chest. i dont see why thats bad, bioware made a women in ME2 for guys that like womens bottom, and now bioware is simply makeing a woman in DA2 for guys who like womens chest, why is that so bad. every bioware game all the female characters are flat chested, finnaly they made a women that has a pretty good chest, thats what im attracted to theres nothing wrong with that. and if you guys think biowares overdueing it then you should see dead or alive, soulcalibur, and ninja gaiden.

He isn't saying that women appearing in video games is sexist, he is saying that if they are in video games someone will find something about it sexist.

Now, one of the mods has said no more discussion about this so I am going to say no more.

Overall I'd have to say I really liked the Demo and can't wait for the game to launch.

The very few things I had an issue with were:

* Warrior Two-Handed Combat. It's a tad too fast but otherwise looks good.
* Female out of combat run. A little on the prissy side and it looks like the character doesn't carry any weight

I also found some bugs with Tactics and the leveling screen. The bugs I noticed were dificality selecting different characters at the leveling screen. I'd set the talents and stats up on one character and try to select the next character and nothing would happen. And with Tactics I'd try to add a new tactic to a character and sometimes end up with part of the tactics from another character on my tactics screen. Mages using warrior abilitys ftw!

In both cases it may simply be I'm not clicking on the correct object / box and these bugs may be limited to just the demo.

Bioware, thanks for letting me try out DA2!

Hmm, interesting point. I shall hope that move doesn't escape into in-game reality.

I have a reason: it is not RPG.
objective: it is slasher for consoles.
I know evil when i taste it - as cpt. Severus said.
So for consoles it very well may be a greatest "RPG", but for my experience DA2 is failed.

Have you come to this conclusion (DA2=Fail) based on the demo? Not saying you are wrong, an opinion is an opinion, but just dont understand? There are some things I dont like, others im concerned about, but I cant make any conclusion other than a 1st impression. The demo just didnt have enough material to form a solid conclusion.

I DA:O all women looked completely alike, though. Except for above their necks. I preffer the looks of the woman in DA2 to that.

Okay I've tried out the demo, and here's my thoughts:

The good:

Combat on a PC is different from DAO, but not significantly so.  It is faster, which is a bit jarring (I've been doing a run through Awakening in anticipation of DA2) but I can get used to it.  Pause and Play is a lifesaver.

Couldn't see much of the new skill trees, but I like what I did see.  Less linear and more branched, it looks like.

I like the new "tone" icons in dialogue, and just hope there'll be some sort of guide for what they are.  Some are obvious (agressive, joking, calm) Some not so much (black lines on a purple background?)

Friendship/Rivalry:  Thumbs up

New style:  Overall good.  Darskspawn do have a more undead-like look to them.  The hurloks at least.  But nothing overly bizzarre.  Like say, qunari with horns Posted Image

Aveline:  Looks like a cool character.  Only got to see her briefly but She struck me as a really impressive.  Tender towards loved ones, and absolute death towards any who threaten them.

The bad:

Comically oversized weapons:  Yeah DAO had them too, but with the more animated motions of combat, it's only emphasized in DA2.  Carver looks like a refugee from a FF game.

Isabella:  Sorry I have to say this, but her outfit's as bad as I feared.  Her "tunic" looks like a couple of pieces of badly sewn together sailcloth that are about to fall off.  Others may think differently, and that's cool and all.  But it doesn't work for me. Which is a pity since her VA sounded really goodThat's all I have to say about that.

Loading:  I saw that this is not going to be an issue with the game, so I'm glad to see that.

Persistant gore:  Honestly, everyone should have been exposed to the darkspawn taint by the looks of things.  They all looked like extras in a bad slasher flick.  A fitting reminder why I keep it off on DAO.  That's the first thing I'm gonna do with DA2 as well.

Granted this was just a snapshot, or a snapshot and a half at most, of the game.  But overall, I like what I see, and only have a few problems, more in appearance than anything else.  Mechanics look fine.   I would have liked to see more of the character creator, but alas, not to be.

Of course, final judgement of the game is reserved for what kind of story ultimately gets told.  That's the big one for me.

I loved the demo. Figured I'd log in and post a few of my thoughts.

I loved the new combat system... though I agree with many posters that the combat does feel too fast. If you slowed it down about 25% it would be perfect. That way we can actually see all the cool moves being made by the characters.

I think the art is great and really brought some of the characters to life. People complain about how x toon looks or y toon looks but overall it was good. Frame rate took a pretty big hit during the Flemeth scene when she appears (probably all the fire effects) but otherwise smooth on max settings.

As far as difficulty goes, people say the Demo was hard and they kept dying, but playing all three classes I smoked the Demo in short order, it felt WAY WAY WAY too EASY. Unfortunately I couldn't turn the difficulty up as I was locked out. Here's to hoping nightmare mode is really nightmare :) Honestly felt like I was unstoppable and my team never got below 75% health. I do like to pause a lot and use my own tactics.

I hope the mod tools when they come out are awesome and many user generated content can be added like in DA:O... definitely can see some great modding potential here.

Looking forward to the game and here's to open it's not so "strait line" in the full game.

Most PC gamers have been horribly burned by dumbed down consol-adapted sequels before. Deus Ex 2 is the classical example. That's why we're apprehensive about it.

What looses a lot of RPG character of the game is the decision wheel. I already dislike not knowing what I answer :-(.

You know what type of response you'll make and have some idea of what you'll say.

Yeah, didn't work for me, because in several instances, the response I clicked on wasn't anything like what I heard. For example, when Carver died, I chose "He's not alone" I didn't know that was the "charming" option, and I'm not sure how it's appropriate to respond in a "charming" manner when talking to your mother about your dead sibling, but the actual response spoken by the character was "Well, at least Father won't be alone." The tone was rather snarky--although it was hard for me to hear any emotion in F!Hawke's VA--and was totally not what I meant; I was thinking more "He's not alone because he'll go to the Maker's side", something that's actually consoling. Had I seen the full response, I would have chosen a different option.

Charming means pleasing, and in the game's usage it means that you're trying to please her and give her some sort of comfort. and I don't know why you thought it was snarky. It sounded sad, but at the same time there was a slight joy in what Hawke said.

It didn't sound that way to me--but again, I wasn't getting much emotion from F!Hawke. The actual line was jarring because it didn't sound real comforting to me. "Charming", to me, implies exactly that: you're trying to seduce or persuade someone, not comfort them.

That was the most egregious example, but there were several other instances where there was a real disconnect for me between the paraphrase and the spoken response. I had this problem in "Leliana's Song", so it doesn't surprise me, and I realize nothing will change at this point, but I figured it was worth giving the feedback that the dialogue system doesn't work for everyone, and may well prove to be a game-breaker for me.

Played Warrior first, and it was kinda clunky because I didn't know what the hell I was doing being my first go at this and so much going on during "Varric's Legend" telling.

Played Mage second and it was damn satisfying to know that even if my ENTIRE PARTY DROPS I can still hold my own against 8 Hurlocks and an Ogre with only Mindblast and Heal.

Played a Rogue last and HOLY CRAP! I was a bloody Ninja-Assassin. Even after reverting to the "actual events" being a DW Rogue, rocked so much. I could run into a group of Darkspawn stab all of them about 2 or 3 times a piece, jump out of the group, heal, run back in and finish them all off.

All in all I really dig this new take. I might try Warrior again now that I got used to how combat works now. Combat is really satisfying, its fast, but I do find myself using the pause-radial menu ALOT more than I did in DAO.

Bioware, I was very impressed by the demo. As someone who never finished DAO for a number of reasons (boring combat, poor character interaction, bland visuals), I was completely uninterested in the sequel. After playing the demo, however, I am most likely going to buy the game now.

It appears that just about everything has been improved from the original in my view. The graphics are great with the addition of DX11 effect and the new art style is much better IMO (the original was really drab), they are leaps past the graphics in DAO. The combat looks way more engaging than the first, which was the main reason I never completed it. Pausing every spellcast/attack got really tedious really quickly, now it seems like you can do a bit more in real time and the AI seems smarter. The story and characters looks much better as well. One of my big issues with DAO was the poor character interaction and facial animations. The demo shows a dramatic improvement in these areas.

I know the same group that was ranting about ME2 being dumbed down has now transitioned to DA2, but I think all the changes I've seen have been improvements as far as the demo goes. Is that indicative of the whole game? I'm not sure, but I'm willing to give it a shot now, which I would not have been prior to the demo.

So good job, I'm probably not the only one being swayed into purchasing as a result of the demo.

Just finished the PC demo. I actually enjoy how the PC and console versions vary from each other. I'm happy to see the PC version plays similar to Origins. I will be buying the PS3 version March 8th. However, I find the lack of meaningful fatalities alarming. In DA:O, it was brutal and satisfying to lop off a head or cut someone down to size. In DA2, the combat is too fast to allow that. A fatality simply implies that your enemy is cut down into chunks. It's serviceable but no where near as satisfying as DA:O. Over all, I'm still very excited for Dragon Age 2 but I'm hoping the story is still engaging.

Again, folks. Breast size discussion. Cut it out.

Hmm, is not a discussion about why this game sadly slavishly continues the trend of hypersexualising female characters ( by way of giving them large breast sizes ) in games ( in a way that male characters are not hypersexualised ) a valid discussion to have ?

That discussion is not sexist surely ?

And that the only spokespersons we have seen or heard for the game ( designers, writers etc ) are men ? Perhaps that hints at why games still can't break that particular sexist design cycle.

Since they like to make things big, why not making males like this in DA3:

Played this on the PS3 and PC.  I enjoyed the PS3 version much more.  It is awesome.  Much better gameplay and graphics than DAO.  Love the style!

One complaint though was with crushing prison in the demo for the mage...it was a little hard to see with so many people on the battlefield.  I want my blood explosions bigger...lol.  Great job.  Glad I preordered!

Watched the demo on You Tube as I wait to finish the download to my PC. Looks like Final Fantasy XIII to me except it isn't as pretty and no one has pink hair yet. I preordered this game, but may reconsider. The combat looks very stylized and unrealisitc. All very Asian, all very "OMG did you see that move?" (Well not really, it was too fast.) So ritualized, so predictable, so Samurai. Not like western martial arts at all.

Flemeth kicked butt, but one wonders how much she's actually in the game.

I hate the art style. I realize we're in a Blight zone, but even the KIrkwall scenes are boring, boring, boring. It's all so bland and monochromatic. Reminds me of one of my least favorite art styles, Japanese brush painting...dull, one-note, listless, boring.

Vanilla fem-Hawke looks like Morrigan (hopefully you can change more than the hair). Wish Nathaniel was in our party and...now that would have been fun. I was so looking forward to March. Given that the romance options are a darker grittier Anders (can you say Alistair without the fun?) and yet another elf....ah well.

I just hope Skyrim lives up to its roots.

All rpg`s are being dumbed down these days. And belive me: its not the consoles fault. Check out the 4th edition d&d rules. Its like a mix between WoW and pokemon cards. And thats a pen and paper game (usually those are more complex that crpgs). The upcoming Skyrim is also "dumbed down" alot. They have removed almost 10 skills that Oblivion had, for example. At this pace, Elder Scrolls 7 will have 3 skills. Everything is being dumbed down, and Bioware is actually far from being the worst at it.
