First Impressions: On PC.

I played as a rogue. I have to say, Hawke puts "NEO" to shame from the matrix. The combat was very fast paced and over the top. I wish they would have toned it down a bit.

Okay:

Only done mage and rogue so far, this smashes all kinds of stereotypes that these classes have previously had. The mage is a barrel of awesome pyro fun with the basic elemental spells we had before (only tried out them) and it does give way to some killer AoE damage.

The rogue is my favorite, which surprises me as I don't usually like them. It's closer to being a ninja with the teleport behind, the miasma bomb and the combo attack. It's even greater, as the NPC mage had cast Winter's Grasp, freezing three hurlocks in a group, which left me free to Rush through them and blow to tiny bits. It feels a teeny bit overpowered, but seeing as the ogre was still a challenge I think it's because the combat looks so good. As others have said, it looks and feels far more engaging than before.

Flemeth looks great, good to hear Kate Mulgrew back as her VA. I liked Isabella too, I have a tiny feeling I'll want to shank Aveline by the time I'm done.

The quick heal/mana/stamina button is a nice addition, I don't suppose I was alone in stacking the bottom right of the skill bar in DA:O with poultices etc.

Some of the armour textures aren't as detailed as I'd hoped, and I get the sinking feeling there'll be some dodgy low res textures in places, but it does look very good, despite the fact there's a bit of slowdown in the cutscenes.

Voice acting as per DA:O ranges from pretty decent to forking abysmal. The interface is completely refined, I loved the tree system of level up skills, and character stats take up a lot less room on screen, leaving more space for hilarious violence.

Overall, I was pissed when it ended after the last fight. Make it March 8th.

Pretty surprised on the resolution of the graphics in this game which is a good thing, and Flemeth was a nice throw back even though she looks entirely different. Everything else is tough to judge at this point I pretty much auto attacked everything with my warrior to the end clicking any abilities when they were up never felt the urge to pause and plot strategy, as a matter of fact i literaly stood behind Haydar and just autoswung to victory without ever pausing. Like I said im pretty much on the fence if it will be good or not, Im honestly leaning a little to the negative side if the majority of this game is going to be stuck in one city killing wave after wave of mobs but well see.

I strongly missed the DAO / Baldur's Gate style camera, its how I always played DAO:

Dragon Age 2 is pretty much for all the people who dont like pausing during combat, or keep on killing their own party members with friendly fire because they suck that much.

hmm demo:

Mage epic as for the often treaded "A" mashing i like it my fustration in the first game was that auto attacks were to slow i could a coin between moves, ok sure i understand some people will be peeved but on a solo run this will be a god send!

spell casting great but i did noice mind blast sometimes has no effect no animation at all yet it shows i have casted it hopefully it has been addressed in testing in the full game

as with most text isnt great

i like the addition of extra level ups into the basic attack and pimping certain spells awesome

graphic wise great job lets be honest DA:O was ugly on consoles:this is a vast improvement didnt notice any framerate issues on my play through

now the down side
i dont like having to back out of the radial menu when i switch it to toggle, Used to be you select what you want and it closes i know all it is, is getting used pressing the trigger after ive selected what i want but it does make it hard to know whats wether my select has been confirmed by the console (or is that bug fixed?)

codex: again nothing game braking but i liked the way the old system was with the menu split into (BACK) and (START) just personal preference

the worst problem i had as a mage was the stupidity of the AI bowmen i can wail on one bow right next to another and its like the other doesnt even notice me killing his mate (easy fixed i just cast a basic attack in his face) i havent gone through on the other build's but it sucks if your trying to draw bowmen and castors away from your melee members

and now the absolute game breaking feature: ogres i want my blue Orge's

as i expected these ogres are **** sure my team died around me and i healed 2 twice BUT apart from having a rock thrown at me in the opening seconds of gameplay the ogre just did basic attacks (he must have really low stamina)

now the up side for the ogre you finally FINALLY fixed that damn rock throw glitch i ran away and got clear of the attack and amazingly i didnt get knocked over like i was used to in DA:O

also why did you have to make the characters sister look hot and the only other female around (apart from a 200yr old mum) looked and sound like she would hit you in the face with a brick and rob you?

sure you resolved the possible incest issue by killing your sister but you could have easly reversed the VO and skins and avoided it

also the sky didnt have any floating disco balls how is this an rpg all the best rpg's have floating disco balls Origins was great because of the disco ball (sneakly disguised as a sun) what do i get from this demo? an actual sun for shame bioware!

I feel a little cheated. I had many problems when starting out with DA:O due to the tactical combat and actually learning how to play the game. I still couldn't get it so I just put the difficulty down to casual as I love any fantasy stories so didn't want to miss it. So I hear DA2 is coming out. Brilliant! Then I,wanting to be able to get the best experience, play through DA again hoping to get the tactical combat down ready for the sequel.

DA2 mash A to attack. Really cannot understand why we don't have an option to turn "auto" attack on. Just pressing a constantly makes me more than a little bored. I will buy the game (pre ordered the signature edition) so I aren't going to be like others on here and just start taking shots at Bioware. Everything else I loved. The epic feel of the opening sequence the dialogue wheel, the look of the game. Meh maybe I need to play it through again?

-Cut-scenes with loading times between them. They're small, but still annoying. Really cuts the immersion. If they're going to be in the game, please reduce their time.

Forgot to mention this.  Liked most of it a lot.  Severly dislike graphics and the numerous loading screens are annoying but bearable.

Right, just got done with a playthrough on the PC as a warrior. Enjoyed the combat and despite the fast pace and animations., it does play very similary to Origins in my view.

Negative point? I played Origins on normal and this demo seemed quite a bit easier. However, it's no biggie and the difficulty can always be turned up.

Edit: And yeah, if I had to name another negative, I would pick the loading. But that's about it really. I think the only reason they focused on combat as well is because that's what most people have had concerns about I 'think'.

Btw, glad the demo ran okay as well on my PC, but I guess I'm still going to buy it for the PS3, because I'd have bought the ultimate edition for nothing.

I realled enjoyed the demo.  I tried out each class and they all seem really well put together.  I remember playing DAO and not being able to get into the vibe of the mage and rogue, but that is not the case in this demo.  Both the mage and rogue are extremely fun.  Lets not forget the warrior too.  My favorite part of the game is the ability to dash back and forth between enemies constantly when you are playing as a warrior, then cleaning up with mighy blow or scythe. Its like playing bloody pinball haha.  Very cool! I  enjoyed the 2h warrior playthrough the most, followed closely by the mage, and then the dual-wielding rogue.

The demo was mainly about gameplay overall which was awesome! It gave us a taste of what is too come March 8th and at the same time still left a lot aspects of the game open to speculation. I think some people are peeved by this, and wanted to see more customization options, companion options, dialogue and whatnot in the demo.  But that will come soon (March 8th :)).  Other than that the menu, ability, and attribute screens are very nice too.  As were the graphics.  The armor and clothing designs were pretty incred, as was kirkwall.  Some of the character designs seemed to lag behind the rest of the games awesome graphics though.  Not really a big deal in my book.

Looking forward to release on March 8th!

i did it (pause during the demo....not necessary i know!) and i didn't kill any.
if u can't do it w/o killing some1, don't blame the game. <3

cos it's blocked in the demo, but there is on the full game.
dunno why tbh.

Wow, fanboy zealots are out in force. Those on PC, loving the camera?

yes.
if u want to play more action u can, if u want to play more tactic u can pause and change char.
i don't miss da:o camera tbh.

I don't think it zooms out far enough, and I much prefer using the right mouse button to pan the camera around.  It feels more intuitive.

well point of view, anyway u can do that with the right mouse (or did i misunderstand what u mean?)

I mean holding the right mouse button down and moving the mouse to swivel the camera.  Doesn't work for me in the demo.  It just tries to "click" on the screen.   Have to use the A + D keys to pan around.

OMG, Anyone know why the graphics and performance suck so much?

IN DA1 I got 60fps constant on max graphics on 1920 resolution. Here I have to come down to 1280 resolution to even keep it playable (30-40fps).

Oh, and this with merely "high" graphics, because the demo doesn't support "very high"... From what I can see DAII is no better graphically than DAI at least on the demo settings, yet... the performance is so much worse.

And Bhav, you can indeed turn friendly fire on in higher difficulties if you didn't know.

Played the Demo on the 360 as it was the first to come out, but i pre ordered the game for the PS3, can i use the special item accross all platforms? would suck to have it sitting on the 360 when i won't be playing the game on the 360.

As for the Demo i loved it, Cpmbat plays out EXACTLY nas it did in Origins nothing has changed so i don't want to hear any complaining, the animations are faster that is all, so combat feels less static, its incredible.

I like the new art style, definitely gives Dragon Age a more distinct feel, but i wouldn't say the graphical quality is all that much better than Origins.

Cannot wait to get the actual game in two weeks so i can create my own Hawke and fool around with Inventory etc, definitely going to be my game of the year :)

I think you completely misuderstood what I wrote, but I wouldnt expect you to be able to understand such a simple point.

In Baldurs Gate / Dragon Age Origins, if you threw a fireball in the wrong place it could easilly wipe out your whole party.

In Dragon Age 2, all you have to do to win is fireball everything in sight. It doesnt matter if party members are nearby, there is no need for tactics or strategy at all, just point, click and win. Far too easy and incredibly boring.

Just want to say thanks Bioware for putting my fears to rest. I was afraid to play this given how much I loved Origins, but in terms of combat, visuals, and fun...you've done me proud. Looking forward to the finished product in 2 weeks.

Okay I just finished. Let me say, either I am out of practice or the combat in normal difficulty is... well more difficult than it was in Origins. I loved everything about it except for the graphic glitches here and there, but I'm 100% sure the problem is with my PC. There isn't much I can do either way, anyway.

I am definitely playing as a mage the first time. Too bad about Bethany, I like her, but I loved the mage experience more.

It was a nice surprise to hear Florence + The Machine in the credits, by the way, thanks for that!

Yea, and its really going to be fun to use without a camera that fully zooms out to allow you to get a top down view of the game.

It's just faster really. With pausing, I thought it was easier than Origins, personally.

Demo was a lot of fun. Loved playing a Mage. They looked and felt badass.

Warrior was boring just pressing A repeatedly. Hated it.

Change the render path to DirectX 9.

I run on the Very high settings.
